DEAR HATERS: Redsan Did Not Steal The Beats For “Badder Than Most”

After Redsan’s latest song ‘Badder Than Most’ was released to the public, a lot of people came out saying that Redsan had straight copied the song and tune of Demarco’s recent club banger “Steady Wine.” Here are the two videos for you to compare and contrast:

While the two beats are the same, this situation calls for some understanding of how the ragga industry works. In ragga, producers release a communal beat called a ‘riddim.’ All artists from that producer’s record label are allowed to sing different songs over that ‘riddim,’ and the resultant effect is that you have many songs on the same beat. Producers can also invite artists from outside their label to sing on a riddim, just like Wyre with his song ‘Uprising.’ Jamaican producer Arif Cooper invited  him to sing on the Relationship riddim in that instance.

In the case of Redsan’s “Badder Than Most,” it’s a case of Redsan hearing a riddim he likes(the Stop Sign Riddim), getting Homeboyz to alter it sufficiently, and then singing over it. This is fair game in the ragga industry as well.
