Did You Know Mali’s Usha First Big Role Was In the Sarafina Musical?!
Ghafla! recently interviewed one of the most highly rated and mesmerizing actors in the country right now. Mkamzee Mwatela has been in various TV shows and stage plays over the last decade. She checked into TV in a big way when she starred in the biggest daily soap opera in the country, Mali.
In the first part of the interview, she talks about how her personality constrasts with her TV character. Apparently, she is shy, laid back and prefers to keep to herself. “That’s why it’s so interesting to play because then you get to say all these stuff that you wish you could say in real life and never can,” she said about the contrast.
She also talks about how she got into acting, way back in primary school. She realized she really wanted to pursue the art late into her teens. Her big break came when she was cast for the role of Sarafina in the play of the same name when it was staged in the country in the early 2000s.
She apparently got the role because she looks South African. She says it was the most competitive role she has ever been in as most of the other actors were always on toes during the production, challenging her. You can check out for yourself what she said plus more below.
