Born Elizabeth Rege, Sikin is a student, radio presenter at Usiu radio, as well as the head of marketing at Santa Fe Lounge. Girl has got it going on!
Currently a student at Sauti academy, this brookhouse alumni has proven with this video that India Arie can indeed be replicated albeit to a degree. Her voice is awesome why lie, and so are her strumming skills eh, yawa that guitar requires practice and she seem to have spent ages honing her skills! Sauti academy is quickly proving to be the launching pad for up and coming talent, churning out new stars every waking moment. Seemingly… Her video already has 2,890 views so it’s clear this lady already has traction. watch her rendition of India Arie’s ‘I am not my hair.’

Her bio reads: As a Kenyan native raised in Ethiopia, Sikin had the opportunity of growing up and being exposed to a variety of musical influences. Her love of music began at a very young age.
At the mere age of 4, Sikin was enrolled in a music school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where she learned to play piano.” Sigh, stars are made of this stuff.
It continues to say “Her family moved back to Nairobi at age 10. A year later, she took up flute lessons in her new school. At 15, she took up voice lessons and with the help of a friend, taught herself how to play the guitar. In the years that followed her passion and talent in music gained her the lead roles in a few school musical productions and a position as one of the heads of the choir and orchestra.

She joined the Kenyan National Youth Orchestra in 2010 and to date continues to play for them. In University, she met musician Fena Gitu, who offered her the opportunity to share a stage with her at Blankets and Wine as her background vocalist. Loosing her mother in 2011 following a long battle with cancer, Sikin’s determination to share her message was fueled. In 2012, fellow student and upcoming musician Kagwe Mungai, offered Sikin another chance to perform as a background vocalist. She sang backing vocals for him on several occasions, mainly Sheebeen and for the second time, Blankets and Wine. Coincidentally, Fena and Kagwe collaborated on a track, dutch, read and hear it here if you havent.
