Ever Wondered What Happened To The Kulahappy Series?

The initial buzz around the Kulahappy series was unlike anything the Kenyan online community had seen before.

The Kulahappy hype was EVERYWHERE. Safaricom especially, spammed me and many others with texts promoting the online comedy.

In the beginning, the going was good for Kulahappy. They came out with viral sensations in the form of Prof PAP, Baba Jackson, Jamandass, Githingithia, all characters designed to appeal to the different ethnic communities of Kenya.

But 7 months ago, Kulahappy all of a sudden stopped posting up videos to their YouTube channel, and you know what that means. It means I did a swift Ghafla! Investigation.

A member of the Kulahappy team, who prefers to remain unnamed, told me that the series had not been shut down as many people thought. They chose to focus their efforts on a spinoff called “Wambua,” which is the name of one of the naughty students in the Prof PAP episodes. They also elected to host their videos themselves on their new platform, Kenyaboxoffice.com. If you are interested in watching this new Kulahappy spinoff, click here for the Wambua videos.

As a web developer, I personally know that the economics of YouTube are incredibly crappy. If your videos don’t routinely get several hundred views each, you won’t make ANY money, so from where I’m sitting, it seems like a good move. What do you think?
