F**K YOU! Why Is Lupita Nyong’o Showing The Middle Finger To Her Beloved Country Kenya??!

Since Mexican-born Kenyan starlet Lupita  Nyong’o stormed into global superstardom some 2 years ago,her star has never stopped shining. Nor her upward trajectory slowed down.

For over 24 months now, this screen goddess, with flawless ebony skin, ravishing smile, impeccable acting chops and toned body, has remained on top of her Hollywood game…winning hearts all across the globe, breaking the ceiling glass, gracing dozens of high-end magazine covers and being crowned the face-and voice-of countless beauty products globally.

But that Oscar award-the highest award in the global film industry-is what truly cemented her historic place in the annals of the much-vaunted Hollywood cinema house. And launched her into a World of endless glamour and glitz and bottomless fortunes.

We celebrated her…Not just because she was our daughter but also because she was our voice; the black voice.

And even when the pesky Western Media would still insist on labelling her “Mexican”-without her objection-we rose up,enraged,to correct these heritage assassins and claim our own product.

We showed this golden girl of Hollywood nothing but unbridled love. We poured out hearts out to her…And swore by her name. We even took her famous gem,‘Your dreams are valid’ and ran with it…imprinting it onto the fertile minds of our young ones…and retweeting it a billion times.

Still,it seemed, all this was not really working the magic we hoped it would on this screen whizkid. She,somehow, still remained somewhat cold..And didn’t seem to return the love. Or show a similar amount of pride in not just her home. But her own people-Us.

Still,we loved her more. And assumed she was too busy to notice us fawning over her, notice us going gaga over her and notice us falling over ourselves to catch a piece of her.

Still,it seemed NOT to work.

Typically,we expected this girl would tour home with that powerful Oscar gong and celebrate with her own nationals…we waited, but…Nothing. She never came. And never indicated any signs of homesickness.

We assumed she was too busy shooting those Star Wars trilogys and that, once she was free, she would sneak a flight and fly home. Many many months later…It didn’t happen.

We waited for many months…Waited for her to buoyantly return, brandishing all those awards and wearing that broad Hollywood smile…We were ready to meet her at the Airport…In our thousands…Ready to clean the roads for her, ready to carry placards for her, ready to paint the city red for her and ready to dance and sing ourselves lame for her. Still,It never happened.

We started getting tired of loving this film princess…And started getting weary of her not-so-sweet attitude towards us.

All we had was her heavily-bearded politician father…who, let’s face it,is not exactly the most electrifying character we’ve ever seen.

But when we heard that she was traveling to neighboring Uganda to shoot some African-style movie, playing a character we’ve since forgotten,we hoped that she’d steal a minute and drop by…I mean,it would take her a couple hours from Kampala to Nairobi. But still,NOTHING!

Even though she stayed in Kampala for almost a month shooting and dinning and meeting Uganda celebrities and what not, still, girl was ‘too busy’ to drop by. And see the hordes of diehards waiting eagerly to see, hug, touch, photograph and celebrate her for months.

After that Uganda blitz ended, she whiffed away…Faster than she came! Damn!

Our hopes dwindled even further…And we even started questioning our own love for her.

And then again,we are told she sneaked into the Country last weekend to attend her younger sister’s wedding in Naivasha…And still,we didn’t see her. Didn’t hear from her. And didn’t even know she was around.

She never spared a minute to say “Habari” to her millions of Kenyan fans…Never saw the need to drop by a local TV station and chat with our TV hosts…Maybe Larry Madowo. Maybe Jeff Koinange. Maybe Lilian Muli.

She just flew in…Sat at the wedding for over 24 hours-or more-and flew out! Oh! How uniquely African!

But really,in African societies,it’s usually imperative for a long-lost daughter or son to come back home and say ‘Habari’.

In African traditional societies, when a daughter or son achieves great success and praise abroad, she or he is usually expected to fly home and share the success with the locals. With the fellow nationals. Dance with them, sing with them, sit with them and bask in the glory with them.

Africans are hugely celebratory people…And we love to welcome our own, share their success and partake on the pride, too.

Even our own Government  Ministers do hold public ‘Homecoming’ ceremonies in their constituencies to celebrate their appointment to The Cabinet…which really is marked as a public service achievement.

We want our girl …We want to see her…And sing, dance for and praise her. African style.

But this woman seems not interested. Not now…Not ever.

So F**k You too,Baby!

We’re tired of waiting….in vain.
