Former KBC Sports Anchor Vying For Speaker of Nairobi County Assembly
Thanks to the new dispensation, ordinary Kenyans can now get into the government without necessarily being politicians. Taking advantage of this provision, former KBC sports anchor and currently vibrant freelance journalist is on the precipice of heading the Nairobi County Assembly.
Milton Nyakundi Oriku this morning officially declared his interest in the position and called for public support. Here’s his message;
I have been very encouraged by the level of support and positive response from those I have met since declaring my desire to become SPEAKER OF THE NAIROBI COUNTY ASSEMBLY. With your goodwill and prayers,I am confident that God will grant us the opportunity to serve our people at that level of leadership. My bid is to represent the youth of Nairobi,to add the voice of the fourth estate and to bridge the ethnic divide.
Milton satisfies all the requirements of Section 178 of the Constitution, which reads in part that each county assembly shall have a speaker elected by the county assembly from among persons who are not members of the assembly.
For those who don’t know, the County Assembly will consist of members elected by voters of the wards; each ward being a single member constituency representative of people with disabilities and the youth nominated by political parties depending on their strength in the assembly.
Ghafla wishes Nyakundi all the best in his quest.
