Frenzy Hits the Team Mafisi Headquarters after Realizing That the ‘Eritrean Shortage of Men’ Story Was A HOAX

The usual cackles of laughter often heard from the team Mafisi camp have died down and have been replaced by a somber mood with chairman has allegedly fainting form shock .

This was after it was revealed that the viral memo from the Eritrean government asking Eritrean men to marry at least two wives or face heavy penalty due to shortage of men was a hoax.

In fact the very idea of taking a second wife in Eritrea is unthinkable because polygamy has been outlawed as an Eritrean blogger revealed on Twitter.

Part of the 2015 Eritrean penal code specifically states this on Polygamy & marriage “Any unmarried person who marries another he knows to be tied by the bond of an existing marriage, is guilty of bigamy, a Class 1 petty offence, punishable with a definite term of imprisonment of not less than 6 months and not more than 12 months, or a fine of 20,001 – 50,000 Nakfas, to be set in intervals of 2,500 Nakfas’’

And also “Except where polygamy is recognized under civil law in conformity with tradition or religious usage, a person who, being tied by the bond of a valid marriage, intentionally contracts another marriage before the first union has been dissolved or annulled.”
