From Benga to Gospel, Here is the ‘African Woman’ Whose seen It All

Formerly known as “African Woman”, Margaret Waitherero had a successful fifteen year career in the world of pop music as a benga artiste. This all changed in 2008 when she accepted Christ as her personal Savior. Waitherero’s first gospel album ‘Ndiinagira Ngai wakwa’ (I will sing for my God), was released in 2008 followed by ‘Fungua roho yako’ (Open your Heart), released in 2009.

Waitherero has also used music as a tool for advocacy by composing and performing the Women Political Alliance theme song ‘Amkeni akina mama’(Women Arise), as well as songs on peace advocacy, the girl child among others. Waitherero’s voice is the identity for one of Kenya’s leading vernacular stations – Kameme FM.
