From Grace To Grass: When Gospel Artistes Fall From Grace

About two years ago one of the most prominent gospel artistes of our time from a prolific gospel group was accused of raping a girl after she had passed out following some medication.

The anonymous female caller alleged that after she passed out she woke up only to find her supposed friend, the said gospel artiste, squeeze the life out of her before holding her down and raping her. The member of the group of course denied this rumors but the damage was already done. The Titanic had already hit the iceberg. A year after that incident, another gospel artiste from the same group was caught red handed soliciting for sex. Needless to say, the musician got some heat from fans following the issue and the said gospel group became a sad former shadow of what it used to be.

I n the same year another budding youthful gospel artiste was also embroiled in a scandal with a certain Nairobi  socialite where he was accused of some hanky-panky at the K.I.C.C with the controversial lady.

The story was never forgotten

So what do these two artistes Willy Paul and Boss Of M.O.G have in common? They slipped and fell just like any normal human being just as Romans 3:23 says. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Why are we so unforgiving when it comes to a gospel artiste slipping and falling? Is it because we put them on a pedestal? Or is it because we all secretly suffer Schadenfreude that is getting pleasure from watching someone else suffer? Or is it because their failure makes us feel better about our own sins?

For whatever reason let us cut the gospel artistes some slack because just like us they are bound to slip and fall. And for gospel artistes, do not put yourself on a dais. Avoid the lure of having the “ideal image” in order to accumulate corporate endorsements, public approval or money .When you appear perfect your scandals will be a big deal since you put yourself on a pedestal.
