Full List: Check Out Nairobi Half Life’s Competition on the Way to the Oscars
The deadline for Oscar submissions is tomorrow and Kenya for only the second time in history has an entrant at the Oscars.
By the end of the month, The Academy will have vetted the films and weeded out the ones that do not meet the strict requirements. Between now and the end of the year, dozens of films will be eliminated from the line-up.
A list of nine will be announced on January 3rd and the final five nominees named on the 10th of January together with the rest of the films in other categories.
There are only two other submissions from Africa: Algeria’s Zabana by Saïd Ould Khelifa and South Africa’s Little One by Darrell Roodt. Unlike Tosh Gitonga who Nairobi Half Life is only his first feature film, Roodt has directed about two dozen films including Sarafina, Cry, The Beloved Country and Oscar nominee in the same category, Yesterday.
