Ghafla Exclusive! Kenyas EBRU TV Is Broke. Silent Massive Firing Is Ongoing As The Cash-Strapped Company Seeks To Relocate
Turkish owned Nairobi-based all news television station is deep in the financial doldrums, Ghafla can now reveal.
According to the highly placed reliable sources, the station has so far relieved six top employees of their duties.The number is expected to shoot up early January 2016 when almost all contracts expire.
In what appears to be signaling a bleak future of the Somanyolu Broadcasting Corporation Kenyan outlet, head of news Nadir Kilic earlier last month advised all his junior staff to look for jobs elsewhere. A move that has seen many of them unsettled.
It is also reported that majority of the news anchors and reporters are currently working on expired employment contracts something which places them in very tricky situations considering the one-sided nature of the legal implications.
The company boss Ali Kutlu is said to have assured employees of November salary and is yet to confirm whether the staff will get their December package or not.
The company which has closed down 14 stations in mother country Turkey.Locally,the bumpy terrain of the Kenyan media has seen Ebru TV lose top news anchors and program hosts to other media houses.The latest being Kamene Goro who is yet to land a TV job.
To cut down on expenses, the management is planning to relocate the station from I&M Bank Building to unknown location.
