GHAFLA EXPLORES: These Are The 10 Most Dangerous Estates In Nairobi…..Number 10 Will Send Chills Down Your Spine

last week, i brought you 10 Estates In Nairobi Where You’ll Find The Most Prostitutes. This week, i present to you, the hods of terror

Safety is, of course, one of the most important factors people consider when choosing a place to live. In Nairobi, there are regions where you walk while praying something doesn’t happen to you. Murder (including non-negligent manslaughter), rape, robbery, and aggravated assault combine to cause elevated violence in the hoods I have listed below. Facts have been acquired through interviewing residents of the specific areas.

Kawangware (Congo)

Inside kawangware, there’s an uncharted territory known as Congo. The situation there is so grave that even administration police think thrice before stepping foot in the area. Sources reveal that there are two main gangs operating in the area. They don’t see eye to eye hence they are separated by a barricade. Kinda like the gully and gaza nonsense of Jamaica. Step into the other gang’s territory and you are minced meat. Mercy is just an irrelevant word in ‘Congo’ No wonder it was the region was named after a war tone African nation .

Dandora phase 2 and dump site

In Dandora Phase 2, you don’t even get robbed. If you are not a known face in the area, someone just stops you and asks you politely to remove your sneakers give them to him. Try resisting and you just might get a dagger in your belly in Spartacus fashion. The weird part is that none of the people passing by will do a thing Your problems are your own

On the other side of the land, gang wars are rife, Dandora dumpsite is where most of Nairobi’s garbage is dumped. Groups of chokoras make orders for every incoming garbage truck. Why? To check if there are any valuables in the garbage. Try messing with another person’s booked truck and you are in for a bloody war.

Kayole

Popularly known as ‘Oyole’., this is the hood where gangs demand protection fees from residents . According to the locals, you have to pay a certain fee when moving in and when moving out of your house. Pay and no one will bother you. Fail to pay and you’ll understand what hell on earth feels like. Note that, this is a common mafia practice in the US. Over the years, the mafia have been known to tax residents and business owners for ‘protection’ against ….nothing.

Huruma (Corner)

In Huruma Corner, the young boys who you’d normally dismiss are the ones that rob you, They are mostly teenagers who you might try to walk past, thinking they are harmless. Sadly, they just don’t rob you and leave you alone. They go ahead and stab you with a rusty dagger. It doesn’t matter whether you complied or not. The stabbing is part of the process.

moooooooob

Majengo

The crime boys are like flies. Despite a good number getting killed every day, their populace still thrives. The intense poverty means many people opt for crime as a population. And they do know how to protect their territory. Apparently, a thief from any other region cannot step foot in the area. They will be as ruthless to him as they are to a human with valuable items.

Kariobangi North (Roundabout)

Here the thieves use the ‘snatch a purse and run’ policy. If you happen to be carrying any valuable item or wearing any jewelry, a thief pops out of nowhere, grabs it then dashes in full speed like the supergero Flash. Even a paperbag full of sukuma wiki might be snatched from you

Githurai 45

I’ve been a victim here. While in a matatu a few years ago, a makanga opened the window slowly, grabbed my phone and disappeared. As expected, his fellow makangas pretended not to know him Since the Githurai marketplace is a crowded area, another trick is used in robbing people. He presses an iron rod on your back then orders you to give him your phone or else he shoots you. Fearing for your life, you probably won’t resist even though what he’s holding might not be a gun

. The situation in Githurai 45 is so bad that when a famous cop who used to kill thugs was prosecuted for murder, residents protested for three days. They simply wanted him to continue killing the thugs

Mathare (Namba 10)

During the day, everything looks normal, but at night, it’s a terror hood. A good number of carjackers hail from this area. Crimes are too many that the locals have just had enough. When a thief is captured, no one bothers to go to the balls. The residents perform justice themselves as a warning to others. The warnings have never been heeded though

Mukuru Kayaba

In Mukuru slums, the youth steal out of frustration. They clearly posses unrivaled hatred for people with money. Step into the hood with good clothes and you are guaranteed to be attacked. The biggest injustice you can do to yourself is to claim you have no shilling with you. The boyz won’t believe you no matter how honest you might be. Even your 100 shilling boxers won’t be spared

KM

Most Nairobians have probably never even heard of KM. It’s a small hood located behind Kenyatta University main campus. Students rely on this area for food, print services and even residential rooms. I lived there as a first year when I was in KU and Let me just say I’ve never lived my life with so much fear as I did during that period in time.

Walk from the campus to your bedsitter past 9pm and you are guaranteed to get robbed by a merciless group of young guys. Tell a chic you live in KM and you’ve definitely cockblocked yourself. Some KU students have even been murdered in this area. Now wonder students prefer living in the nearby Kahawa Wendani and Ruiru areas instead of KM

Due to the numerous complaints, the KU administration is now working with the police to provide more security .
