Ghafla Poll: Do You Think Bloggers Should Be Censored?

The power that the media has is recognized by many political powers and that is why people in power are always trying to censor the media. Over the years we have seen different media bills drawn up in parliament in a bid to tame the shrew, (i.e. the media) and we have seen journalists and media shareholders take to the streets to contest it.

Mainstream media has been suffering from the brunt of these laws but it looks like they want to crack the whip on online media a.k.a the bloggers too. This is because the state supporters feel that the bloggers have crossed the line by using this medium to fuel ethnic hate and spread false information.

This has sparked a fierce debate, with pro-bloggers saying that “The foundation of peace and prosperity for any nation was not the calmness and silence of its citizens rather the ability of the masses to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences without the fear of victimization.”
