Here’s Concrete Evidence That Kenyans Need To Embrace Tribalism Now

You won’t believe this.

According to the Kenya Advertising Research Foundation’s latest survey, 55% of the top 20 radio stations are vernacular. Kenyans enjoy this stuff. Here they are by name:

Inooro FM
Ramogi FM
Kameme FM
Musyi FM
Coro FM
West FM
Chamgei FM
Kass FM
Muuga FM
Egesa FM and
Mulembe FM

That’s 11 out of the top 20. Kenyans are tribal by nature. There is nothing that gets a Kenyan’s emotional juices flowing than hearing or seeing something from their cultural home. It’s powerful. The tribal radio stations have harnessed these strong feelings in the most positive way possible. They are evidence that positive tribalism exists, and can be harnessed for the greater good.

Just look at how excited Luos get when Ramogi nite(hosted by Ramogi FM) finally comes around. Or how excited my fellow Luhyas get when it’s Mulembe nite. Tribalism is here to stay. Kenyans should embrace positive tribalism, and the dominance of vernacular radio stations is undeniable evidence towards this point.
