“I Smeared Myself in My Dead Colleague’s Blood “Pregnant Survivor Speaks after the Grisly Garissa University Attack That Claimed 148 Lives

 

On Thursday morning, we woke up to harrowing news of the atrocious Garissa attack which at that time claimed few lives. As the hours passed by, the news got grimmer and the death toll got higher .

And by Friday morning we were horror-struck by the callous carnage of our fellow Kenyans, innumerable lives lost just like that in a span of only 24 hours.

But unlike most of us who received the news from a safe distance, there are those who were at the heart of the crime scene. And one of them was a survivor Ms Murugi who was 8 months pregnant at the time of the attack.
Murugi and her colleagues lived to tell the tale because they played dead after coating themselves with the blood of their dead school mates. “I slowly took blood from a dead colleague lying beside me and smeared it all over my head and hands. At this time, only one attacker was in the room as the rest went upstairs. I played dead for 10 hours despite being heavily pregnant,” she said while speaking to the Saturday Nation.

Prior to narrating how she survived the ordeal, Ms Murugi said that the Al-Shabaab pronounced that if the President does not pull out the KDF forces from Somalia, the bloodshed in Kenya would only continue. Something which echoes the claims the militia made back in 2013 during the Westgate Mall Siege that claimed about 67 lives,
