Jaguar, Juakali and Other Artists With The Most Loyal and Fanatic Fans

Musicians and politicians have one thing in common that is they feed on public love. For musicians, this is what builds their measures success, feeds their ego and grants them airplay and in the long run line up their pockets.

Nothing is worth more to a musician than loyal fans the kind who will be clinging on to older music when one hits a dry spell or ‘sells out’. The kind of fan who will show up at performances buy music and call on the radio to request the song.

The fanatical fan can critique but never hate the musician. More than anyone they are hurt when an artist lets them down and when they cannot explain the move, they will hurt in silence crying inside with every abuse thrown by haters. To them the musician is family and when they are at the top you dare not say something negative. No, the fanatic is not a groupie or general adoring public. You can tell one is a fanatic when you play an artist’s song and hear a protest when you change it. In Kenya, as far as such love goes, some animals are definitely equal than others do. A good thing to keep in mind is that where there is greater love, there is equally greater hate. Here are the top eight musicians with the most fanatical fan base.

Jaguar

There are only two artists in Kenya who can pull the same crowds in whatever the pace you take them to and that is without the backing of a radio station or big corporate, Jaguar is one of them. Sure, he is not the best of lyricists around and a very different person than the artist who gave you ‘Furaha’ but there is no doubt about his crowd pulling and loyalty infusing ability. His memorable repetitive hooks and lines however irritating are adored by fans and they will stick by him come what may.

Juakali

Nonini may be the Godfather and the man who brought the shine to Calif Records but there is only one undisputed King of Genge. Whether he raps or just talks to you is still a debate since he started his career but even when he sits out months without a hit there will be always be Juakali fans. He is the only other artist guaranteed to get the venue filled up any place any time even when it is amongst rock or reggae fans, the moment the ‘watu’ cry goes up, you know just how much love this guy has.

Octopizzo

Yes, even with all the controversy, ‘haters’ and detractors, the long distance paper chaser has a crowd that is not about to cry sellout. They love the man and will always try to explain missteps as courage to do something different and mostly they end up having the last laugh as Octopizzo is quite ahead from competitors. As I said, with love comes equally a substantial anti- gang.

Khaligraph

It had to be him coming up closely since whether by design or fate discussions of one have involve to the other. This is very queer since two artists could not be more different. In Khaligraph the anti-Octopizzo bandwagon found their knight in shining armor. His hard hitting lines, balling and brawling image backed up by quite an impressive skill set was something new then he started being too familiar and rather repetitive in themes and the detractors came up. Through the criticism however, the din of his fans still sounds higher.

Mustapha

Sure this is the one guy on this list who really appreciates what it means to have loyal fans. The Colonel has clearly lost the plot if ever there was one. Yet even when he has to resort to raunchiness like Dodoma-Singida he will have his zealous fans screaming misunderstood…

Many artists could do with such adoration and understanding especially against the criticism but these guys have mastered the charming act.
