Kenyan Artistes To Be Taxed Under New Proposals

If a proposal by Kenya’s Finance Minister receives support in Parliament and is translated into law, then it will no longer be a walk in the park for Kenyan artistes as their performances will be subject to taxation.

In a post from a local daily, it was highlighted that Kenyan artistes have also been brought into the tax bracket, with a proposal (by Finance Minister Njeru Githae) to have them pay 16 per cent VAT for their earnings from entertainment services.

Previously, musicians were not taxed for their ventures and enjoyed virtually all of the fee they charged at events they performed at around the country.
