Kenyan Celebs Pay Tribute To Fallen Jamaican Reggae Maestro
JOHN HOLT, a legendary Jamaican Reggae singer died last Sunday after battling illness for long periods and Papa Nasty (John Maloba) has expressed his sorrow at the loss of one of the men who dictated the reggae music industry with verve and vigour for so long.
Papa Nasty himself is a well known lover and promoter of reggae music in Kenya, especially in his recently disbanded Dread Beat Show that for so long a period ruled Radio Citizen’s airwaves.
In his facebook page, Nasty applauded Holt as one man who produced music for the fans.
This is what he had to say:
John first found success as the lead singer of reggae group, The Paragons, replacing original front-man Leroy Stamp after making a name for himself on the talent show circuit.

After leaving the group in 1970 to focus on his solo music career, John penned the song ‘Stick By Me’, his most successful solo effort, which was the biggest selling Jamaican record of 1972.

John had been battling ill health for a lengthy period and collapsed on stage during a performance at the One Love concert in London, after which he underwent surgery and was recovering in Britain.

Holt died at the age of 69.
Rest in Peace JOHN HOLT.
