Kenya’s Music Bigwigs Respond To Upcoming Artiste’s Claims That They Demand Sex & Money For Airplay

They say that there are two sides to every story and we had to get the other side of the Blaqy Story. Blaqy is an upcoming artiste who accused the bigwigs in the music industry such as Mzazi Tuva of Mambo Mseto,Homeboyz’s G-Money,Dj Kalonje,DJ Wesley and Dj Pinye of  not supporting local content

Mzai was accused of treating his music unfavorably and favoring artistes such as Jaguar, Chameleon and Diamond and grandpa records artist. He also accused him of involving money and sex to get your music played in the case of women.

In response to Blaqy, Mzazi said playing Blaqy’s Show me would be highly inappropriate as it is not only demeaning to women but it’s out of place in a family show. One cannot subject children to the ass shaking and inappropriate dressing in the videos. In addition, he was not the one in charge of selecting the playlist, there were people designated to that area who ‘sieve’ the songs to ensure that they were not too explicit for TV As for the high rotation of Jaguar, Chameleon and Diamond songs, he said that people want to hear those songs and request for them frequently. He added that Blaqy had actually come to him for advice before shooting the video and Mzazi advised him to make a TV appropriate video but Blaqy brushed him off and said that he wanted his song to be a hit on you tube and not TV. On the demanding sexual favors and money for a song to get played accusations, Mzazi said those allegations were not only untrue but defamatory and he was shocked that someone whom he considers a friend would accuse him of such things

Dj Kalonje said that Blaqy just handed him a sample of his music at a club and did not bother following upon the issue.   And just like Mzai,Dj Kalonje said there is a lot of logistics involved before a song gets airplay. It has to be reviewed by the head of music, head of programming among others in fact he has little say in what gets airplay. He then added that he in fact supports local artiste among them Chess and Critical who are currently doing well in the music scene

Wesley on the other hand says that he does not favor artistes he plays good music. “If your music is good I will play it. Tell Blaqy to contact me as soon as he had a good song, I guarantee that I will play it .” he says

Gmoney’s only response was LOL which was followed by this “Further on the subject of explicit “dancehall” I googled this guy … Blaqy watched his video,watch it too.. I rest my case.”

Dj Pinye could not respond as he is currently out of the country.
