Kisima Awards: A Tale Of Controversy And Disappointment.
Kisima Awards seem to be imploding and no one from the Kisima Academy that did the nominations is willing to speak up to defend the franchise.
This is either cowardly or strategically brilliant -time will tell. But for now, Kisima is doing more harm than good to it’s brand because the silence is only fuelling the suspicion. Top artists such as DNA, Daddy Owen, Cannibal and now Size 8 have pulled out. All this says is there’s a dip in confidence in the brand “Kisima” as an awards entity and a steep one if ever i saw one.
If Kisima keeps hemorrhaging stars at this rate, they will be left with a roster that isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. Yet they seem the least bit concerned with dealing with the rumours circulating about a dishonest selection and nomination process. Just how are songs from 3yrs ago such as Just A Band’s “Ha-He” in the running? Don’t get me wrong, i’m a huge fan of J.A.B’s but come on!
Then there’s the fact that Camp Mulla are going head to head with upcoming artistes and that fact has left Uncle Chim Tuna wondering whether Kisima understands the tag of upcoming or this is there way of reinventing the wheel. Camp Mulla are no longer an up coming act so making them have to compete against the small fry is insulting to their brand and unfair to up coming acts who won’t get the recognition they deserve.
I sent an email to the Kisima Academy but as a the time i decided to write this piece, the hadn’t responded even though the individual behind their twitter handle is as active as a jack rabbit’s sex life. So i have chosen to interpreter this as cowardice rather than strategic forethought.
Tina Kagia has been asking alot of pertinent questions and so has Adelle O both of One FM yet they have been met with the “great wall of China” in as far as cryptic and evasive responses have gone.
But i reiterate that if Kisima wants to maintain it’s brand and possibly build it should do is study a page from t5he Groove Awards playbook. They need to be transparent and forthcoming with information because all they are doing now is alienating the audience and without said audience’s goodwill, they are merely another CHAT Awards waiting to happen.
Kudos to DNA for stepping down on grounds of principle and here’s a shopulder shrug for Size 8 who stepped down for “personal reasons” but when everything is said and done, to offer 2million as your top prize then fail to attract top billed acts is just weak!
Kisima, over to you, we await to hear your side of the story.
