Imposters are a dime a dozen. On social media, they are the rule rather than the exception. I suspect that is why it’s such a big deal when an account is finally verified, just ask Larry Madowo.
Allow me to take you down memory lane before I get to the crux of the matter. Many a celebrities have taken to social media to denounce their imposters and ask their fans to be wary. Some of these guys are so diabolical they have even fleeced people who thought they were sending money for a good cause. Julie Gichuru last year warned her Facebook fans not to send money to criminals using her name to swindle her adoring fans who were none the wiser.
Our very own Chim emerged bloody but unbowed, when Janet Mbugua went ‘mono a mano’ with him after he called her out for supporting Mirfat. It turns out that super popular page is fake! Say what? I didn’t believe it, read about that here. Swaleh Mdoe has actually gone on record to say that he has NO Facebook accounts. On air mind you.
Caroline Mutoko has repeatedly posted on her Facebook page that she has no twitter account. She has reiterated that that it’s an imposter purpoting to be her, and that she shall not be deemed culpable for any mischief the clown gets people embroiled in. Kirigo Ng’arua was caught up in all this craziness.
Now one more anchor has come out to denounce her imposter on Facebook, Lulu Hassan. Which begs the question, why are most of the media personalities being impersonated from Royal Media Services? Lulu Hassan recently made a surprising shift to Royal Media’s Citizen TV after being with KTN for six years. She actually announced her decision prior to the move on her real Facebook account. That my dear friends is how much love some celebrities have for their fans. Now you understand why this issue is always thorny. Who wants to have their name dragged through the mire by an egocentric imposter trying to reap wher ethey did not sow.
