Media And Kenyans Warned Against Sharing Video Of The AL-Shabaab KDF Showdown In Lamu
A clip of the Al-Shabaab insurgents attempting to raid a KDF camp in Baure Lamu has been circulating on social media.
This was after it was leaked by a British Blog and was then picked up numerous international media outlets and local blogs and traditional media have ran with the video.
The clip was apparently taped by a British Jihadist who was among those terrorists slain in the attack. However circulating this video could land you in trouble as it apparently contravenes:
Section 33 (2) of the constitution of Kenya 2010 that states that the right to freedom of expression DOES NOT extend to
- propaganda for war;
- Incitement to violence… and that in the exercises of the right to freedom of expression, every person shall respect the rights and reputation of others.’

In a statement sent out to media houses Maj General Joseph Nkaissery stated that the airing and/online distribution of such inflammatory material contravenes Section 33(3) of the constitution and is also contrary to the provisions of the Kenya Information and Communication scat /(Cap 411 a).
Those who do not comply will have legal measures taken up against them.
