Meet Lyra Aoko’s Replacement In The Samsung Ziki Stars Competition!
This Saturday, another event was going down. Dubbed Samsung Ziki Star, the mission was to birth the next star after Lyra Aoko!
Sadly I didn not attend but news have a way of travelling thus I got the scoop. Daystar University’s Daniel Chikwaza, a second year communication student won! For flooring everyone else, he gets to record a single and video courtesy of Samsung Electronics East Africa. This leg was the culmination of three weeks of intensive auditions across three universities.
I’m told Daniel staved off vicious vocal competition, to beat 6 contestants from three universities- Kenyatta University, USIU and Daystar University at the grand finale. The seven contestants were: Lensa Alila and Maureen Kanana from Kenyatta University, Daniel Chikwaza and Young Noiz from Daystar University, Sikin Rege, Halima Nsangou and Lisa Mugera from USIU. I introduced you guy to Sikin a while back, read about where she was before she dashed to dazzle at this competition!

Sikin Rege was second runners-up while Halima Nsangou was the first runners-up. Young Noiz from Daystar University won the judges award, for his boom boxing talent earning himself a one off opportunity to record with King of Benga – Dan ‘Chizi’Aceda and gifted music producer – Chris Adwar@ Yung Nnoiz is also the guy behind Slam Africa going down this friday at Ethiopian Dass Restaurant in westlands.
Daniel, under Wyre’s tutelage is expected to hit the ground running. Expect his single in a fortnight. Kevin Wyre by the way, is not only a singer and gifted producer but also the Samsung’s Brand Ambassador. Read about his new song here.
Samsung Ziki Star which was inaugurated in 2011, saw Lyra Aoko emerge winner of the competition. As winner of the Samsung Ziki Stars she debuted the music scene with a Wyre collabo called “Happy” which has propelled her musical career . Lyra’s career looks promising as she has already worked on a new single “Ni Wewe” and also features in songs with leading artists like J ’Mani and Collo –“Radio Love” and Nick Mutuma –“254 Anthem
The second edition of Samsung Ziki Stars was courtesy of its recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy Music handset. The event was held at Skylux.
