Meet the New Head of the MCSK
Music teacher and former radio host Mike Maganzo is the new head of the musicians’ welfare body Music Copyright Society of Kenya. He trounced his sole challenger and veteran musician CDM Kiratu during the elections held last weekend to take up the mantle. The seat fell vacant following the death of renowned musician and long serving MCSK official Habel Kifoto of the Charonyi ni Wasi fame.
Maganzo, a former classical music host at KBC, will be deputised by Tom Kodiyo, a veteran benga musician based in Kisumu. Kodiyo will also be in charge of the committee that oversees the welfare fo MCSK mmeers. “Musicians and artists at large are faced with a number of problems which the new office will be handling immediately through the recently established MCSK Foundation,” said Kodiyo after assuming office. Directors from all the eight regions were also elected. MCSK has been facing a number of challenges, the major one being enforcement of copyright laws.
