Nairobi Half Life Cast Members Explain How the Film’s Success Had Them Locked Out of the Screenings
Joseph K. Wairimu and Olwenya Maina, the two main characters from Nairobi Half Life dropped by Ghafla! from an interview where they talked about the movie and their career.
But an interesting thing that came out of one of the questions was how the actors have been locked out of the film’s screening after finding the screenings had sold out. The revelation came when the actors were asked about the number of times they had watched the film. Read the transcipt below.
Olwenya Maina: “I’ve watched it three times. I have gone to watch it five times but two times I’ve found it totally booked. You guys, whoever is doing that.”
Ghafla!: “Even the stars can’t make it in.”
OM: “It’s quite a success.”
Joseph K. Wairimu: “I’ve managed to watch it twice becuase last week last week I was in a peace trip with a certain institution known as Sponsored Art for Education, SAFE Ghetto. And the other reason is that Kenyans have come out in large numbers and we were surprised and shocked when we appeared there wanting to watch the movie but we were amazed that it was all sold out. So we had to stay outside.”
G!: “Did the stuff recognize you and try to maybe get you in?”
OM: “They do. And then we can walk in free but then again that is so Kenyan.”
G!: “So, you guys actually pay?”
OM: “Yeah, we do. We actually go and pay and buy popcorn and sit down like everyone else.”
