Norwegian-Kenyan Rapper Stella Mwangi (STL) Embraces Her Kikuyu Roots (Photos)
The say that Mwacha Mila Ni Mtumwa (He who denounces his cultures is a slave) and singer/rapper/songwriter STL is certainly not a ‘Mwacha Mila’
Despite growing up in Norway for a large part of her life, the celebrated rapper has managed to preserve her culture thanks to her father.
Her father made sure she and her siblings learned Gikuyu language and Swahili even far away from home. It is said that he used cultural music and poetry to teach them the languages and this inspired Stella’s music and her connection to the Kenyan culture. The singer even managed to produce a song in Gikuyu called Biashara that appealed not only to Kenyans but also Non-Kenyans.
Stella Mwangi has not stopped at singing in Kikuyu but was even recently involved in a Kikuyu ceremony where a lot of traditional beer(Muratina) was partaken.
