Only Sauti Sol Seemed to Have Noticed it, This is The Hot News That Eluded Most of You Yesterday
Apart from the sad news about the death of Homabay senator Otieno Kajwang that hit most headlines in the country yesterday, there was other interesting development that was unfolding.
Yesterday passed without most people realizing it was an important day on the international calendar, it was a day that was very important especially to the men across the world. It was so unfortunate that Kajwang’s death clouded the country with a somber mood making other news have little relevance to the people.
How many of you actually noticed yesterday was men’s day? I bet it had no relevance to Kenyans in particular. I mean men have turned out to be “guerillas” that prey on women and shame them by publicly stripping them. Why on earth would men even be celebrated? Of late Kenyan men have turned out to be a disappointing lot, painting a bad picture of the country, I guess it was very hard for anyone to notice men’s day.
But then again not all men are “monstrous”, as a matter of fact, only a few men are wicked. So is the media too giving men a cold shoulder? The Kenyan media totally gave men a blind eye, most media ignored men’s day, in fact, they never informed the mass about the relevance of yesterday nor did they even mentioned it. What happened to independent and impartial media in the country? It is very ironical that March 8th which happens to be Women’s day was extensively covered by the media, but when it came to 19th November, there was a sudden blackout. Is the media playing double standards?
Despite the media’s prejudice, award winning quartet Sauti Sol found time amidst their busy schedule to celebrate the hard working men who have contributed positive change in the society. The broader and ultimate aim of men’s day is to promote basic humanitarian values, this can best be achieved if the media stops their bias and be objective in their reporting.
