Photo-Activist Boniface Mwangi Roughed Up By Security At Labour Day Celebrations For Heckling Atwoli
Award-winning Kenyan photojournalist making a name for his social-political activism, Boniface Mwangi has just been arrested at Uhuru Park during the Labour Day Celebrations for shouting down COTU boss Francis Atwoli.
Atwoli had just taken to the stage to deliver his speech when Boniface shouted, “Msaliti” and that’s when “security details”, rather shop stewards pounced on him, roughing him up as they whisked him away as the COTU boss urged them to “deal with him thoroughly.”
Boniface has been strongly opposing Atwoli’s stance to have Members of Parliament get more pay. Prior to the ceremony, Boniface had made it clear that he will be “standing up for what he believes in” in a string of tweets;

@bonifacemwangi: Today is a beautiful day to overcome fear and stand up for what you believe is right.”
@bonifacemwangi: Kenya is unequal society. We are been rained on while the people we elected are sitted cosily. #LabourDay
Meanwhile, the #KOT are pushing to have the photo-activist released under the tag #FreeBonifaceMwangi as reports indicate that he is being held at the Parliament Police Station.
