So Robert Alai Snobbed Nairobi Aviation And Went To An Institution That Has Been Evading Tax For 17 Years?
The Nation exposee on lackluster institution shed light on the rot in our Education system, only a handful of tertiary institutions have received accreditation in the country, this is in itself alarming considering the labyrinth of institutions that are littered at every street corner promising Education and heavens to a desperate lot that will pay an arm and a leg for a shot at getting a career giving diploma or degree
Robert Alai has distanced himself from the claims that he attended school at Nairobi Aviation and Instead set the bar straight by disclosing that he actually went to United States International University. One of the top private universities in the country, when the crack-down on mediocre institutions was underway and Nairobi aviation was being villified, a letter from 2011 resurfaced. ‘

The letter, penned by Richard Leakey who was resigning from his chairmanship at the USIU, Richard was particularly unhappy that the institution went on encouraging the rot despite being in the know that the CEO then was a corrupt man who led the institution in evading tax. In his letter of resignation, Richard detailed how during a meeting, the board had decided to disclose that they had defaulted in taxes for 7 years and not 17, thereby ripping the government off 10 year worth of taxes.
Richard, a peaceble man thought that the rot had gone way too far and decided to throw in the towel. It is still not clear what the next development in this soap opera will be, but the crackdown on these institutions has just begun, There was Nairobi Aviation, then USIU.. The next one? We shall just have to wait.
