Star Flix Prestige Finally Releases the Bob Marley Documentary

Star Flix Prestige presents MARLEY, a documentary on the life of the iconic music maker who not only left a mark on reggae music, but on artistry as a whole. The film debuts at the cinema on Friday, 7th September at 9:00 p.m. Tickets retail at 400bob.

The film is directed by Kevin MacDonald, who has previously directed Academy Award-winning films such as One Day in September, The Last King of Scotland and other acclaimed films, State of Play and Life in a Day, the 2011 film which was made using thousands of clips posted by fans on YouTube.

The 44-year old director has made a name directing famous personalities’ documentaries including about the lives of filmmaker Howard Hawkes, rockstar Mick Jagger and actor Eric Campbell among others. MARLEY stars Bob Marley himself, Ziggy Marley and Jimmy Cliff among others. The cinematographer is Wally Pfister, who did The Dark Knight Rises, Inception and The Dark Knight among others.

Bob Marley’s universal appeal, impact on music history and role as a social and political prophet is both unique and unparalleled. MARLEY is the definitive life story of the musician, revolutionary and legend, from his early days to his rise to international superstardom. Made with the support of the Marley family, the film features rare footage, incredible performances and revelatory interviews with the people that knew him best.

The film is a hit with the critics. It has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 93 reviews, certified fresh. It scored a 7.9/10 rating on IMDb with 2,765 votes counted so far. Metacritic fans gave it an 8.9/10 score after 32 reviews. Respected film critics, Roger Ebert gave it 3.5/4.0 stars. Below are comments of the film from top critics.
