Strange World: KTN Highlights The Story Of A Man Buried While Sitting Down (Video)

Humans have various ways of sending off their dead. Some like to do it with flamboyance that may include wild partying and feasting.

While others, prefer to send off their loved ones in a solemn, more chilled out way. Others however opt for stranger ways of sending off their dead, from leaving their dead out in the sun for the vultures to feast on to self mummification, the world has seen it all.

In Kenya, people are less dramatic when sending off their loved ones; it is usually a serious affair, where the dead are buried in a straight coffin or cremated. However a theatrical ritual in Luhya-land has left many mouths agape and has become fodder for internet trolls.

KTN highlighted a story where elderly man was buried while sitting down. This took place at Ikolomani, land of bull fighting. The interesting ritual was part of the traditions of the Angusu clan of the Idakho Luhya sub tribe where elders are buried sitting down as a sign of respect and for the dead to watch over his family. This ritual dates back to centuries ago where elders are buried in this way.

The advent of Christianity did not deter this sub-tribe from practicing this ritual with even saved Christians respecting this tradition.

Below is the clip where the 62 year old man was buried in an unconventional casket
