The Genius Behind Sauti Sol’s ‘Nishike’ Speaks Up

With 1,091,765 views on You Tube, Nishike was undoubtedly one of the biggest songs of 2014; the only song that came close was Willy Paul feat. Size 8 – Tam Tam Remix that garnered 1,071,536 hits.

Many know the singers of the song Sauti Sol, but few know the producer of the song Kagwe Mungai who is a genius to say the least.

We sat down with Kagwe to find out what inspired ‘Nishike’ and this is what he said:

“We did not have any slow jams in Kenya, and I love slow music.  I needed to make a slow jam coming from Kenya. I met up with Sauti Sol, played them the track, they loved it and they went to the studio writing and recording. By December 2012, Nishike was finished and it was released in 2014”
