The late Tionna Wangechi, has been nominated for AMVCA awards 2015 in the best costume designer category.
The Late fashion blogger cum designer has been nominated for an award in recognition of her artistry in designing costumes for a popular Tv series “Rush” she was nominated among top African Costume designers who have made an impact in the film industry, the full list of nominees for the 2015 awards were announced on 10 of December by Nick Mutuma of Mashariki mix and Sika Osei of 53 extra
While Tionna will not be there to pick her award, her presence will be felt, her legacy will continue outliving her for days to come.
Before her death Tionna was the official stylist for Maisha Magic’s Rush Cast. Rush eulogized Tionna when the list of Nominess was released:
“Tionna encapsulated the spirit of beauty, energy, love and life. This shone through in all she did and all she was. Those who were fortunate enough to meet Tionna and spend time with her can never forget her captivating smile and warm, caring nature. Tionna left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She drew you into her world with her infectious, bubbly personality and striking beauty. Tionna’s beauty was evident for all to see when she graced the cover of Couture Africa magazine and everyone wanted to know who this incredible girl was. Every picture of Tionna, every thought we have of her, every memory we hold onto reminds us of the beauty, fun and optimism of life, and of a young woman living her life to the fullest.
Tionna’s outward beauty was matched only by the beauty in her heart. Her heart and soul were pure, honest and spiritual. Tionna always demonstrated great integrity, professionalism and responsibility, and her work on RUSH was testament to this. Tionna was trusted, and everyone believed in her, and her talents shined through in all she did. Tionna’s work is now standing tall across Nairobi as a bold, bright statement to her creativity and talent. The RUSH billboards that sit high along Mombasa road and Langata road show all of Nairobi the work of Tionna in styling the RUSH cast. Every time we pass the billboards we will remember Tionna, and they will always remind us of the talents she possessed and what she achieved in her young life.
In life, when you meet people like Tionna, you want to hold on to them, value them and treasure them. Tionna was cruelly taken from this world too soon, and taken from the lives of her family and friends. The pain and hurt runs so deep, and we search for answers and ways to ease the pain. As we do we remember that Tionna will live forever in our hearts and minds. We will remember the person Tionna was, and we will endeavour to live our life with the love, energy and spirit she showed us all.
