The Soul Celebration For Every One This Friday!
With many Nairobi clubs opting to play only the latest hits, Nairobian’s of a certain age have been missing a place where they can go and listen to their favorites from back in the day in comfort.
Florida 2000, one of Nairobi’s oldest clubs, has recognized the need and created SoulFest Saturdays which will feature different DJs playing soul, oldies and olskool. The inaugural SoulFest will be held on Saturday 15th March and will thereafter be held every first Saturday of the month.
Award winning DJ Kareez will be hosting the first event along with DJ Magic Mike. DJ Kareez said “Expect to hear music from the 80s and 90s including great hits like Twisted by Keith sweat, Groove me by Guy, Poison by Bell Biv Devoe, Rumpshaker by Wreckx-N-Effect and closer to home Megarider by Nameless, Boomba Train by Esir, and Tafsiri Hii by Kalamashaka.”
Both DJ Kareez and Magic Mike have been resident Djs at Florida 2000 before and are aiming on giving Nairobians a nostalgic trip back to when the heng was the heng! When DJs played with Vinyl and everyone had a cassette of DJ mixes from F2. When the beer of choice was Tusker Export and everybody chewed Big G….
Florida 2000 is currently celebrating their 30th year in the business and are planning a lineup of monthly gigs incorporating a number of genres including soul, techno and others.
