This Kenyan Artiste Survived the War in Congo
In a recent interview, 24-year old Alice Theluji aka Alicios talked about her experience growing up.
Before she released her breakout hit, ‘Mpita Njia,’ she had some rough trials and tribulations to speak of. She was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She said, “After war broke out in Kinsasha, we moved to Kenya as refugees and settled in Kibera.”
Wow.
Further to that, she said that her mum was a musician back in DRC, but took a break from singing “due to the harsh realities she faced bringing up a family.” The mother started a small business which enabled the family to move from Kibera to Nyayo Estate. Alicios managed to qualify for further studies in Sweden, where she started her recording career with the song “Mpita Njia.” Give it a listen below:
