This Kid is Set To Revolutionize House Music in Kenya

After watching this kid’s video the first thing that came into my head was Swedish House Mafia’s “Don’t You Worry Child”. Not that he apes the deejay unit, no! his music especially his debut video can only be likened to that. Meet 19 year old Nellian James.

After sitting for his high school finals in 2011, Nellian headed straight to Fullhouse International’s music studio and worked on his music for about six months; a time he cites as a learning experience. While at Fullhouse, he did a couple of tracks but shelved them because they were not – in his opinion – “hit songs.” Finally, Fullhouse and the young artiste came together to engineer a song he approved as a hit – “Dance, Please.”

“Dance, Please” became Nellian’s debut single and was released at an official media launch on the 29th of August 2012 at Galileo Lounge, Westlands. The video for “Dance, Please” was shot live on location at Volar and was intended to embody the spirit of the song.

Ever introspective, Nellian saw himself as one of the fresh voices of the “new school” in Kenya. With musical influences like Lil’ Wayne, Michael Jackson, Big Sean, Justin Timberlake and E-sir, the young rapper was raring to take the Kenyan club scene by storm.

Here’s Nellian James performing his debut hit single “DANCE PLEASE”, a Fullhouse Music Kenya Video Productions directed by Helen Gebregiorgis.

Nellian plans to focus on his music until he is not only on at the top of the Kenyan music industry but also well-recognized on the international music scene. “If I faced the wrath of my family for music, then no one can stop me from attaining the number one spot,” says Nellian James.
