Emily’s year Old Struggle for Life

Emily Atieno Adongo is the 5th born in the family of Mr.Benedict Adongo and Mrs. Linet Aketch. She was born on 28th May 2014 at Pap-Onditi District Hospital through normal birth process and without any complications.

At her birth, Emily seemed healthy though her retarded growth rate worried her parents. She weighed 3.4 Kg at her birth (Which is normal) but only gained 2.1 Kg over 6 months.

At five months, Emily’s parents noticed her irregular breathing pattern which was accompanied with restless, respiratory distress, and becomes hungry every often. This prompted them to seek advice from experienced mothers in their Radienya Village. Unfortunately, not much help was accorded in the village.

The persistence in her condition prompted her mother to visit the local hospital, [Name First Hospital] where she was referred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and referral Hospital in Kisumu County.

At Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital, Emily was examined by the doctors who then referred us to Christine Jowi, a cardiologist, and she was diagnosed with heart complication. The news was a shock to the family of 8.

Hoping against hope, Mr. and Mrs. Adongo were able to honor the appointed with Dr. Jowi at Hurlingham Hearts Clinic in Nairobi for further examination. The news was nothing better. Emily could only be saved through open heart surgery which is not offered in Kenya.

The family of Mr. and Mrs. Adongo is now required to raise 1.5 million Kenya Shillings for travel and medical expenses to India for Emily’s treatment. Unfortunately, Emily’s condition requires urgent medical attention. Emily is a fighter and we pray that God will help her through this problem.
