TOP TRENDS: #KONY2012

Just today neighbouring Uganda had their first ever globally trending topic: #StopKony, with the country’s name also featuring in the top 10 trending list as well. This was to highlight the search for Uganda’s Lord’s Resistance Army guerilla group leader Joseph Kony.

Kony engaged in a violet and armed campaign to bring Uganda under theocratic government as the LRA claim that God sent spirits to communicate their mission directly to Kony to establish the Ten Commandments in the country.

The LRA has become notorious in various armed conflicts not just in Uganda, but also in Sudan, Congo and South Sudan. it is believed he has recruited over 60,000 children to fight for him as well as caused the displacement of close to 2 million people. As a result, the International Criminal Court at the Hague indicted him for war crimes, but he has evaded capture since.

Numerous international efforts have been launched to disarm the LRA, arrest Kony as well as return all the children he has taken home. See the latest efforts in the video below…
