It seems not just the men, but also the county of Nyeri itself, is being battered by an ‘image’ crisis.

In case you missed it, the recent case of the battering of a man from Nyeri by his wife, Juliana Wairimu, was being heard at the Law Court of Mukurwe-Ini in the county. She is accused of attacking her husband with a panga, cutting him up severely.

Locals of the area recall the old folkore of a Murang’a ‘overlord’/woman, Wangu wa Makeri, who was known as ‘the Terrible’ because she delighted in humiliating the men in her village.

The topic has been the talk of the country in recent times, some even turning it into a parody, as Kenyans on Twitter (#KOT) even made a trending topic based on it ‘ #NyeriTVShows ‘. Users of the social site took to it with such vigour that it just hit the TOP trending worldwide topic on Twitter today, 18th Feb 2012 at around 12.45pm local time.
