Uncle Chim Tuna’s Open Letter To All The Nick Mutuma Haters On Twitter And Facebook!

So Nick Mutuma recently released a video for his track “254 Anthem” and the internets went bananas! Everyone and their aunt wanted to be heard hating. Twitter was especially aflame with tweets about how horrible the track and video are. Jeff Omondi wrote about that and you can read his article here.

Anyway, some of the comments in the true nature of KOT (Kenyans On Twitter) where downright mean. They offered little if any merited criticism. They were merely the verbal spewings of Kenyans too scared of life to get off their phones and actually live life.
And don’t get me wrong, not everyone on Twitter is a hater but the majority are. And with that said, if there’s a thing I really don’t like it’s an armchair critic!

There is nothing lower than a hater too scared to get on their own tip but are brave about putting down other people with the nads to do anything. Why am I passionate about this? Well, have you heard any of D’Banj’s 1st songs? No? I didn’t think so. None of you is a true music connoisseur.
And what about Vincent van Gogh? All his life, he was told that his art was worthless. Now he is considered one of the greats!

D’Banj went from here:

To working with Snoop Lion and Kanye West! Why? Because we Nigerians build our own!

KOT: Nick Mutuma’s Latest Video is Garbage!

Nick Mutuma’s song may be a party song aye, it may be a feel good track but if you don’t have a song that is worth talking about then you should be quiet. Why are the people doing nothing the loudest? Nick Mutuma has the heart to do something and make a track and all you do is hate?

If the criticism was merited or pointed out at specific flaws in the lyrics or in the video, I wouldn’t have caught feelings like your lass catches those funny diseases but I don’t condone baseless hate. I have been on the receiving end of diatribe and vitriol but the thing is, I have such thick skin.

I care little for what a hater doing nothing with his life says. But at the end of the day, if we want Kenyan music to grow to heights greater than Mt Olympus, we should support our own. Give them bouquets when they deserve them and educative criticism when merited. If it was up to Twitter, Camp Mulla would never have been the hottest act out of Kenya what with the “Bubblegum Rap” tag they were given!
