“We were fooled from Nation Media Group to Standard Media only to be sent home after years of sheer hard work!”KTN employees lament.
Today July 20 marks the end day for over 250 staff of Standard Group who were allegedly supposed to be retrenched. However it appears things are not rosy at the Kenya’s second largest media company as Ghafla! has come to establish.
In a bid to cut down on the wage bill, the company had announced its intention to sack employees. In an internal memo that Ghafla was able to receive last month, the staff were requested to apply for Early Voluntary Retrenchment and as a result each would get a two-month gross salary .
Ghafla! is able to gather that the company CEO invited staff to an impromptu meeting which his supposed to be convened tomorrow, the main agenda being the retrenchment after it appeared that few employees opted for early retrenchment.
“Yes it is true we are likely to be retrenched and it appears very few guys applied for the early retrenchment, something that has prompted our boss to call an early morning tomorrow”, reveals one staff when we called.
According to some highly placed sources at the sales department who requested to remain anonymous, they claim to have been fooled from Nation Media group by the head of commercial with hefty empty promises. They hacked the sales target upon which their performance is based and thus according to them it’s therefore unfair for the company to chase them after bringing a lot of revenue in 2013 and 2014.
Narrating their plight, the frustrated lot however maintain that the media sales landscape has changed tremendously after the government advertising agencies came in.
Keep it Ghafla for more on the juicy scoop.
