Westlands New Home for Nairobi’s Premier Wellness Center

Nairobi, 8th July 2014: Westlands, Nairobi’s home for the lively middle class, has received a new gem comprising: a state -of –the- art wellness center with a gym, group fitness classes, luxurious spa treatments and massages, nutritional consultations, meditation & yoga classes. The center will also have a juice and coffee bar as well as a salon.

The new wellness center dubbed ‘Revitalize Wellness Center’ is the first of its kind in Nairobi and will be located at ICEA Lion Centre, Block 1A, on Chiromo Road – sitting in the middle of Westland’s commercial capital that’s a dynamic social hub for expatriates and middle class Kenyans.

“Around the world, there is growing interest in changing the way we take care of ourselves – not just our bodies, but also our minds, spirit, society, and planet. There is a growing impetus for paradigm shift to a proactive and holistic approach to addressing and preventing the root causes of our personal and societal ills. This is what our wellness movement is all about,” said Susan Rodrigues, Managing Director, Revitalize Limited.

“With global healthcare at crisis point and consumers picking obesity as the number one threat to the future health of humanity, it is the very worst of times for our overall health and wellness. However, there is much to be positive about as 86 percent of people believe they have the power to change their own level of wellness, while 73 percent feel positive about their overall health and the average person now believes they will live to 79. It is this optimism that is being amplified by a technological revolution that is set to dramatically impact our health,” explained Susan.

Revitalize Wellness Center will combine world skin care best practices to some of the common services such as facial treatments (the center is making use of the luxury British spa and skincare brand Elemis), yoga and meditation classes, a gym, body treatments and massages including deep tissue massages, manicures and pedicures as well as stylist haircut for men, grooming and saloon services for ladies among others.“In addition to beauty, fitness, therapy and other skin care services, Revitalize is opening a coffee and Juice bar providing fresh juices and smoothies, gourmet coffee and tea infused with much sought after Ganoderma –a herb of mushroom type used in Asia for its ability to maintain and improve health,” said Susan.

According to Susan, Revitalize shapes the future of wellness and promises to assist consumers in their quest to live better and healthier lives. “The global interest in, and confidence about wellness, is poised to impact everything about the way we live our lives, from the products we buy to the places we work and play. The Revitalize Brand in Kenya is about to do just that,” she said.

Revitalize Wellness Center comes amid 2014 statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO) indicating that about a quarter (23 per cent) of Kenyan women aged 15 years and above is either underweight or obese. Also about seven per cent of men in the same age group suffer from the conditions.

“Many people are now suffering from lifestyle diseases such as heart diseases, cancers, diabetes, bone issues and psychological disorders due to their weight,” said Susan.

Based on the WHO, overweight and obesity are the fifth leading risk of global deaths. At least 2.8 million adults die each year as a result of the conditions. In addition, the WHO notes that 44 per cent, 23 per cent and up to 41 per cent of diabetes, heart disease and cancer burdens respectively are attributable to overweight and obesity. Diabetes affects 3.5 million Kenyans.

“Increased threat to lives by lifestyle diseases has brought about the yearning for a balance between work, personal time and quality time with family and friends as a perpetual need within today’s society,” said Susan.

In addition to increased consciousness for personal health and fitness, Kenya’s health tourism provides a plus for wellness centres like Revitalize where health spas are gaining ground due to surging demand for the services from tourists and expatriates.
