What Does Sauti Sol’s MTVEMA Best African Act Win Mean For You and Me?
Our own Sauti Sol are doing great on the global scene, musically, and that, for any noble, loyal person, is a massive achievement.
This is not the first time Sauti Sol are hitting headlines, for the good reasons of course. They have done so before, with swag and in a scintillating manner.
This time round, they have done it in a special way, on a special platform. Winning the MTVEMA Best African Act is no mean feat.

First one needs to understand what it takes to win this prestigious accolade. Start with the number of musicians in Africa. From the ever captivating Nigerians like Davido, Tiwa Savage and Flavour to the Tanzanian great singer Diamond, Sauti Sol managed to overcome to stiff challenge that these artists posed to scoop the award.
That is credible. That is commendable.

The challenges have been intense but our own Sauti Sol managed to manoeuvre through the very murky processes of jostling their way to the very top.
At the top they are.
But what does Sauti Sol’s win mean for Kenyans?
In the simplest of the terms possible, the win means a lot for us.

First, as Kenyans, it shows that we can make bold decisions without necessarily require instructions from anywhere else. Kenyans voted with passion for the group of four and that explains why they scooped the accolade. That was a nice decision from Kenyans.
Second, Sauti Sol’s win is an indication that tribalism and ethnic jingoism are just a creation of a few egocentric, moribund and ineffective individuals who do so to massage their own ego. We can come together as a nation for a common goal as we did when voting for Sauti Sol.
Sauti Sol themselves believed that indeed without minds oriented towards tribalism and ethnic divisions, Kenyans can do great things.

This win also signifies that Kenyan Music has greatly evolved. From the days of the likes of the late Jacob Luseno and the late Kakai Kilonzo, great men who sang with verve and vigour in their days, to this days of Sauti Sol, Elani and many others, Kenyan entertainment industry has grown. This is why SAuti Sol were nominated for this great awards.
Of course this is not the end of everything. Sauti Sol still have one more step to go. The most prestigious of all the accolades: the MTVEMA worldwide best act. They are in for it and only the pessimistic lot can dismiss this group’s ability to win this glamorous award.

As we have done before, it is our noble duty to push them through by voting as much as we can. Someone once said that a pot breaks at the doorstep, after you have carefully carried it from the river.
Let our pot not break when we are almost in the house. Keep voting for Sauti Sol.
Their win is our win. In one way or the other, they are selling our country to the outside world.
From State House to the village regions of homeland, let people vote for Sauti Sol, for our winning mojo is still alive.
