Yunasi Making a Comeback
One of the artistes that lit the stage up at last weekend’s Sawa Sawa Festival were afro-fusion band, Yunasi. The band is made up of Tobias Koech, Erick Odhiambo, Davis Ngala, Simon Nyarieko, Mathew and Omondi Rabala. Their musical style is called Sesuba, a mix of Sega, Isikuti and Benga.
The band has performed on the international stage in festivals such as Bluesfest alongside Sinead O’Connor and Keith Urban among other big stars. The band’s energetic performance was one of the highlights of the annual Sawa Sawa Festival this past weekend. The group’s catchy songs, wild dance moves and rhythmic instruments kept fans on their feet throughout their set.
The band is back home to build a local following after success overseas, including winning the U.S. International Songwriting Contest for Ji Opgore and being the only Kenyan band to perform at the O2 Arena in London for BBC World Service 75th anniversary.
If you missed their amazing performance at the Sawa Sawa Festival this week, you can still catch them when they perform at Root International’s Thursday Nite Live at Choices Pub on Baricho Road this Thursday from 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
