Rappers getting familiar with ‘kadudu’

It’s just motivating to see artists still in their youth, doing tracks that build the society and reflect to the daily lives of their fellow youths. Autopilots have made us proud by their latest track which is entirely dedicated to raising awareness of HIV/AIDS.

You’d think that they’d take the much serious and slow track approach on a song as sensitive as this one, but no. They brought life to education straight to the club. The track is titled ‘Kadudu‘, referring to the HIV virus and as much as it is educative, it is also full of hype actually qualifies to be a club banger. This is the type of song that gets you dancing and when you are done, get to some serious thinking and actually leave the club without that ‘chips funga‘.

With the slogan “Dont let your Affection Cause him/her an Infection,Play safe……Chunga Kadudu!!!” This should actually be the soundtrack to the next Jipange advert. Just saying.

‘Kadudu’ is produced by Zuze and was released last Friday the 15th. Have a listen to it. I’m confident you’ll enjoy it.

Larry Asego presents: The Hot Seat

So did you catch Larry Asego’s show on Kiss Tv last night?

It was just before the Portugal-Dutch Euro game.
The show was a comedy/ satire show that features Larry Asego doing various roasts as he talks to his audience. Well, if you did, then you know that the man is funny as hell!
He basically took shots at certain events that have transpired either in his life or in society in general and he rocked the audience! I for one didn’t know he was that funny! And by funny, i don’t mean “mchongoano” and tribal cliches, i mean witty -mature humour basically.
As i sat down watching his skits which i believe were done at the Alliance Francaise, i however noticed two glaring short-sights. One was the wardrobe. There was something wrong with his collar. It seemed to have a mind of it’s own. The other was the setting. I feel the show would be alot better (in matters aesthetic appeal) if it were in a studio. Maybe the controlled environment would serve the whole concept better.
As for Larry Asego’s material, it was too funny! His jokes were rib-cracking and his roasts were hilarious. All in all, i can say that i was happy to watch telly for a change (ergo happy that i had stayed in) and if this is what Kiss believes is local content, then kudos! Hats off to Kiss Tv for airing this show “Hot Seat” rather than ramming yet another lame telenovela down my throat!

Music and politics: no longer strange bedfellows.

During the last elections, politicians were falling over themselves to get celebrities endorsements.

The move was neither new nor groundbreaking as Obama had used it successfully; he got endorsed by the likes of George Clooney, Jay Z and Oprah. Following his script, Kenyan politicians began to approach musicians.
But the difference between the politics here and those in America began to manifest. Fans begun to take sides and if their favourite artists supported the “wrong” camp, they were booted from the playlist. That same scenario has been repeating itself of late as the elections get closer.
I remember having a word with Anto Neosoul about the same issue. Anto was of the opinion that Kenyan artists should wake up and smell the coffee. We as a populace aren’t at the level of political maturity where we can differentiate an individual’s political beliefs and philosophies from the artist. And when i asked him why artists are still falling over themselves to be associated with politicians, his response was simple and incisive: “Money!”
Is the money offered enough to potentially damage your career over? Think about it. Our politics has taken such a deplorable ethnic twist that anyone who endorses a politician runs the risk of being labelled a tribalist. While it’s all well and good to use your talent and skill to put a meal on the table, our artistes should be careful who they associate their brand with.
But when is it okay to associate with politicians? How about during philanthropic missions? But as Jaguar has shown, our artists don’t need political patronage to give back to the community.
The only time i think it’s okay to associate with our current crop of politicians is if you intend to delve into the murky world of politricks. If say, you want to go into politics as Ringtone did, then by all means, associate with all the politicians you can. But then, by definition you stop being an artist and become a politician. That is what i respect the most about Youssur N’dour. He has made that distinction clear. He is no longer an artiste, he is a leader and a politician.
But a word of caution, the love your audience had for you will wittle away once you become a political leader. Leadership is about making the hard decisions that no one else has the balls to make. It’s about getting people to tighten their belts today for a better tomorrow. No one likes being told to go through the desert to get to Canaan!

These rappers are now on ‘Autopilot’. Here’s what they have to say.

We recently had a one on one with the hiphop group Autopilots that brought you the track ‘Life kwa mtaa‘ and ‘tukakatike‘. Turns out that there is more to it than just the good and raw music they make. Check this out.

Ghafla!: Tell us a little bit about Autopilots.
Auotopilots: We started as a hiphop group back in October 2010, just as we are right now, Losh Mzuka, MC Yobbz and MC Kenzy. We started b y free-styling as a one of our hobbies before releasing our first single, ‘Life kwa Mtaa’.

Ghafla!: How did the group form?
MC Yobbz: It was really funny (laughs). Where we used to stay which was the school hostels, we used to go to Losh’s place since he had a laptop and that was where the idea of free-styling came to be for us and we used to record it on the web cam. We immediately discovered our mutual love for hiphop. After a long series of freestyles is when we finally decided to get serious and take our works to the studio.

Ghafla!: Ok, so you guys are also students? How do you manage the two?
Autopilots: Our classes take the whole day till about 4:30PM. It is then that we meet and do our music, about twice a week since we are all in the same campus (Daystar).

Ghafla!: Seeing that you are still students, do you get any support in music from your families?

MC Kenzy: No one supports me at all but I get my strength and more passion for music there.

MC Yobbs: Support… no! What I usually do is tell my mother to buy tomorrows paper and read about us.
Losh: The only person in my family that has always had my back is my brother. He has always encouraged me both morally and financially. My mother didn’t support me up until I did a track dedicated to her, telling her how much I love and care about her. Then she started appreciating my music.

Ghafla!: What do you think about the various changes in Kenyan music, now that we are also doing house and techno?

Autopilots: Just like everything else, music is also subject to change and as an artist, you just have to give the fans what they want and love for you to make money.

Ghafla!: Who would you like to collaborate with if given the chance?
MC Yobbz: Nonini and Collo. These are established artistes who know what they are doing in the music industry.
Losh: Collo. The guy has consistency in music and that is precisely how an artist should be. I would also love to collaborate with Khaligraph. The amount of musical talent that he has is just unmeasurable.
MC Kenzy: Collo and P-Unit. Collo can take on any beat thrown to him and he knows how to satisfy his fans musically.

Ghafla!: Are you guys for #teamprezzo? What do you think of his behaviour in the House?
Autopilots: Prezzo is a strong character and actually knows how to entertain his fans even when in the house. His drama is what we love about him. We also love the way he put Barbs in her place in the beginning of the show. He is the best celebrity for the Big Brother House. He is just too real.

Ghafla!: Any collaborations that you have done already?
Autopilots: Yes, we have done ‘ma-night runners’ with Kitu Sewer and other tracks with friends who are also rappers, but more collaborations are on the way and they will be hot.

Ghafla!: And now for the most important question of the day. What do you think about Ghafla!Kenya and our works? Be honest now.
MC Yobbz: Apart from having an attracting page and awesome layout, you guys are informative in matters concerning music and you are doing great. You are building artistes, something that your competitors have never considered doing.
Losh: The first page I open everyday is Ghafla! I love how you avoid scandals and only concentrate on building the artistes. Kenya really needed that.
MC Kenzy: You guys are awesome especially for the upcoming artistes. Your publicity for artistes comes without request from the particular artist and that is really awesome.

Allan On Probation Again As Contestants Perform American Hit Singles in TPF5

Judging by the basket of surprises that took place at the eviction night on Saturday, the Tusker Project Fame 5 contestants were bound to go all out on the Sunday show which would determine which of the remaining 12 would stay in the Academy or pack their bags.

Of interest to note though was that none of the aspiring stars had managed to secure immunity from nomination during the week, probably because the faculty thought it prudent to put everyone on the same pedestal and see how well they would fair on.

Theme-wise, the episode went ‘American’ with the contestants trying their hand (or voices) at popular Billboard 100 songs. The darling of the public vote, Doreen was first up with a rendition to Jessie J’s ‘Dominoe’ and her performance was good enough to ward off the wrath of Judges Ian, Hermes and Juliana.

Samantha came up with a rather difficult ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ performance as Allan played it even riskier with Chris Brown’s ‘She Aint You’ but the judges told them their presentations were fair but needed much more work. What was even more worrying was the fact that Judges Juliana and Hermes had as few ‘nice things’ to say on the night about a majority of the performances as Judge Ian perennially does.

Jackson, who enjoyed the perks of immunity last week, possessed an aura of assurance on the night as he sang Maroon 5’s ‘Moves Like Jagger’. Though he enjoyed his performance, Judges Juliana and Ian were left unimpressed and even went ahead to say that he had regressed somewhat. He took it in stride saying he was confident he thought he did a rather great job. Admittedly the tune was catchy though the delivery may have landed him in hot soup… time would surely tell.

The huskily refreshing Ruth gave the most memorable performance of the night, as she took on the vocally demanding Beyonce Hit ‘Best Thing I Never Had’. She sang it with such expertise and excitement that the end could call for nothing short of a standing ovation, with Judge Ian cleverly remarking, “Finally, the show has just started”. The crowd literally cheered and applauded for over a minute as even host Sheila had a bit of a tough time getting people quiet again.

Other performances of the night included Damien’s witty version of Bruno Mars’ ‘Just the Way You Are’, Nancy’s version of Katy Perry’s ‘Fireworks’ which the judges said sounded rather ‘karaoke-ish’ and Fatuma’s ‘Where You At’ by Jennifer Hudson. Fatuma may have taken abit more than she could chew on that one though as Judge Juliana said she had problems managing the ‘highs and lows’ which left us wondering just what was managed on the song then.

Joe, a traditional favourite of the judges, audience and faculty, wrapped it all up by singing Jason Derulo’s ‘In My Head’, a display which did not go down too well with them though as Judge Hermes declared he just wasn’t ‘feeling’ the song and it seemed he had gone down just a notch.

The contestants who were finally placed on probation were Eunice, Fatuma, Damien, Allan (once again) and Nancy.

To save your favourite contestant, you can SMS the tusker numbers: Eunice (Tusker6), Damian (Tusker14), Nancy (Tusker8), Fatuma (Tusker9) and Allan (Tusker5) to the following Lines: 8009 in Kenya and Uganda, 7333 in Rwanda, 15324 in Tanzania and +254739966811 in South Sudan and Burundi.

The Voting lines are have been open from 9.00pm Sunday, 17th June 2012 night till 6.00am on Saturday, 23rd June 2012.

Ghafla Exclusive: Jua Cali’s hot new track!

It seems the king of genge has awoken from his musical slumber and has something for all the genge lovers out there.

He has realised a track titled “Kuna Sheng” that seeks to explain the existence of different variations of Kenya’s street dialect. He starts by praising the urban lingo then delves into the subject matter.
And for those of us not too savvy on street lingo, not to worry, Jua Cali has undertaken the task of getting us up to speed on the vocab department in his unique and entertaining way.
The track for sure will get love from all those that consider themselves hip and with it aswell as from music lovers. As usual, Jua Cali has transcended barriers and even those who aren’t too big on genge will enjoy the track.
It gets a 4 Ghafla rating from me although those around me feel it should get a 5 Ghafla rating. Just this once, i capitulate.

This is the tribute artiste’s first concert in Africal. Kenyan dancehall artiste, Wyre, will curtain raise for MJ. Also performing will be Dance Ian Group and Homeboyz will do the DJing for the event that starts at 8:00 p.m. at the Carnivore Grounds on Lang’ata Road.

Luck and Popularity Not On Mer’s Side as She and Imani Bid Farewell to Tusker Project Fame 5

Last week one could have sworn that Kenya’s Doreen was just bidding her time on stage at Tusker Project Fame Season 5, what with her wanting performance that had the judges a breathe short of chasing her out of the academy, to her ‘slightly’ less than extraordinary performance on the Eviction night of 16th June 2012.

A remarkable change of fortune and what appeared to be a stern vote of confidence from the public altered the course of that definitive conclusion… but wait just a minute.

All the 5 TPF5 contestants on probation; Sharon Nahkioga, Imani Lissu, Mer Ayang’, Allan Sekiranda and Doreen Nyawira, had a tough task to prove to the teaching staff and more importantly to the judges and the public, that they rightfully deserved a lifeline to stay in contention for the Kshs. 5 million jackpot.

The Saturday night TPF show is traditionally a sordid affair for contestants who have been nominated and face the unwelcome possibility of leaving the Academy and the Competition. This usually calls for each of them to bring their best to the table as only the fittest survive to see another week.

Allan confidently promised TPF fans his best performance yet and true to his word, he gave a MUCH better showing than the previous week, which had brought him this consequence and a deserved jolt. Doreen was shaky in her delivery though: it seemed that all the pressure mounted on her by Judges Hermes, Juliana and Ian coupled with the demanding week the contestants had in the Academy had taken its toll.

Sticking to the theme that was ‘Trends’ was the simplest task, the harder one being staying in tune and matching that basic with a spectacular performance. The judges remained unconvinced however as Doreen wrapped up her song. It was a matter of time.

South Sudan’s Mer looked absolutely regal in her attire as she stepped onto the stage, feeling even more elated by the fact that her sister Paleki, a contestant from the previous Tusker Project Fame season, was in attendance to show her support.

The delicate balance of fate and luck were however not on her side because when it came down to the wire, the contestants voted to keep Allan in the house as Doreen won the public vote to keep her in contention. The surprise in her face was palpable as she took her place back at the contestant terraces.

That left Imani, Mer and Sharon in an awkward position as only one of them would be saved by the faculty of the Academy. This ended up being Sharon, who Principal Hellen said ‘showed the greatest growth and most promise.’

Thus the curtain fell on the hopes of 30 year old Tanzanian Imani and South Sudanese Mer taking the TPF5 crown, as hosts Dr. Mitch and Sheila waved goodbye to the audience until the Sunday show.

Tusker Project Fame is a reality Music television show in which 15 selected contestants compete by performing on stage to live audiences through an 8 week period.

JAGUAR’S HOT NEW SINGLE OUT!

Jaguar has broken his musical silence and released a hot new track!

And for those of you who loved “kigeugeu” then this one will be a treat! He seems to have decided to stay in line musically with the club-banger that has been getting him mad love and appreciation.

The track titled “Matapeli” (Makofi) is evidence to everyone who has been bemoaning the lack of hard hitting lyrics in Kapuka and who better to prove the nay-sayers wrong than the king of the genre?

The track addresses the political landscape in the country as Jaguar tries to awaken the populace to the fact that it is we who make a difference and only we.

And again i reiterate, everything about this track is awesome and thus it’s a sure club-banger.

It even gets a 5 ghafla rating and if you are wondering why, then here is why:

Did you catch Sauti Sol’s performance at BBA?

Over the weekend, sauti Sol headed down South for a performance.

And perform they did! They really made Kenyan music lovers proud to count this act as one of their own.

News that the quartet had been asked to perform at Sunday’s eviction party had difussed thanks to Ghafla and with all our eyeballs watching them and our ears tuned in to listen, the pressure was on. But the quartet showed such stage maturity and composure and gave us a performance for the days!

And as always, they were looking fashion forward! Look at the afrocentric duds they had on!

And if you need evidence of just how musically gifted Kenyans are, peep the video!

Here Are the Perfect Songs for This Father’s Day

Some of you might be tempted to ask, “Yaani father’s day exists?” Yes it does. It is one of the most underrated appreciation days in history. The institution of fatherhood has and is always associated with manliness and machismo. Therefore most people (especially the men) find it quite hard to walk up to their dads and say, “Happy Father’s Day Daddy!” No one wants to look weak.

This year father’s day falls on Sunday the 17th of June. I think it would be great if we could overcome the stereotype above and appreciate the old man in our lives. The perfect solution to overcome this dilemma is to use the most powerful drug ever made, music. There are couple of smooth ballads I have come across that would do the trick quite neatly. These songs will leave your pops wondering what hit him once you are done complementing him. Have a look below and remember to leave a compliment for your Dad in the comments section. Have a great father’s day!

No, There’s No TPF App This Season

There’s been news in the media about how Samsung has an application which will turn East Africa’s first ever reality TV show into the first reality show in the region as well to have an official application.

PR Representaives have however come out to say that the ‘TPF App’ will not see the light of day, at least for this season of the show. TPF and Samsung had initially agreed on developing a TPF app but the idea was shelved at the last minute due to the time it takes to code such an App particularly for external use beyond a closed user group.
Earlier press releases had alluded to the release of this application but speculation has all been cleared up.
Incase you haven’t been reading Ghafla! well, eading beverage manufacturer, East African Breweries Limited (EABL) and consumer electronics firm Samsung Electronics East Africa (SEEA) sealed a multimillion sponsorship deal that will propel this year’s Tusker Project Fame 5 to a digital space.
On his part, EABL Group Managing Director and CEO Seni Adetu welcomed Samsung’s partnership, noting that it would deliver a unique experience to this year’s show. “We are constantly on the look-out for ways to bring much more than just world class entertainment to the millions of viewers tuning into Tusker Project Fame”.
Tusker Project Fame has thus been turned into a ‘paperless’ wonder where the contestants, faculty and judges will be able to communicate via Samsung Galaxy Tablets dished out to them.

“I’m a…I’m a…I’m a Mjengo Man!” Kajairo’s Gentleman Remix

Kajairo has done it again. The comedian has reworked Sauti Sol and P-Unit’s hugely popular club-banger, Gentleman, the song that introduced Sauti Sol to the mainstream audience.

Kajairo started off on the iconic TV show, Redyukulass, doing humorous remixes to famous songs. He later went to start his TV show, which received mixed reviews.

But on this track, he proves why he deserves the fame he got as a comedian and maybe should serve as an indication for him to keep his brand of comedy to the music.

Junia reveals why she wants Malonza so bad

So, it might not be for reasons based on love, but at-least Junia has finally made it clear on why she wants Malonza so bad.

Apparently, she wants a ‘good time’ (if you know what I mean) with Malonza simply because she wants to have treasurable memories of the Big Brother House experience.

Malonza on the other hand seems not too impressed by this as other guys would be, and it actually not interested at all. Personally, I think he wants it too but he’s just teasing her. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Goldie fails to hide her desire of being HOH

Earlier today, in a competition at the Big Brother Upville House that required all the contestants to drink out of a glass bowl without touching it with their hands.

As everybody was busy struggling to deep their mouths inside their huge bowls, emotional Goldie turned into extremely weird Goldie as she was too immersed into the bowl activity, after which she expressed bored and disturbed expressions even after winning the competition that will see her become the next HOH (Head of House).

It seems the Nigerian singer has something very serious to prove and no longer cares about her image.

Watch this space.

DNA: “I’m Going Back to Secular Music”

Former kapuka artiste, later gospel music convert, DNA, is going back to doing secular music. One interesting thing, though, he is still saved.

DNA (Dreams N Ambitions) ripped through the charts in 2006 with his club banger, Banjuka, which is still a huge party anthem. Later during his music career, DNA turned to the Lord and recorded Mtoto Wa Sonko to explain his newfound salvation.

Save for collaborations with Kambua and Isaac Kahura, he has largely kept off the music scene for a while and he called a press conference to explain the break. During the period, he has been experimenting with new material and artistes. He has come to the realization that he can’t box himself in on Gospel.

He did not wish to take any questions concerning his faith or family. He did note, however, that he discussed the issue with his family before arriving to a conclusion. They support his decision and that is all that matters to him right now.

The artiste clarified that he is still strong in faith and is not going back to do the things that destroyed him before. He is older and a better man now, and it is not that he has backslided.

The first track to be released after this announcement, which will surely draw a lot of debate, is Maswali Ya Polisi. You can check it out the video here.

OMG! Vinnie Banton and Lynda’s ‘sex tape’ out!

We had heard about it a while back but wasn’t sure if they would actually pull it off. I mean, Kenya is full of sensitive and morally righteous people, but then again, all the more reason to make it happen.

So, yes. I was excited when I heard that it was finally out, and more excited when I saw the actual video. Oh, and no. This isn’t that type of ‘sex tape’ that is currently massaging your dirty mind… [smh]!

‘Sex Tape’ is the title of Lynda’s latest song in which she has featured Vinnie Banton. The video’s nature however, kinda fits the title, so don’t be too disapointed.

The video of the song which is house music with a touch of dancehall was shot in Las Vegas, Nevada and unfortunately Vinnie Banton is not in it. Lynda Miriga however makes it all worthwhile.

I shall say no more, I know you can’t wait to check out the video. Here it is.

Ghafla! Top 7 Chart (15th June 2012)

The weekly Ghafla! Top 7 chart looks a whole lot different this time round with a number of new entrants, mostly as a result of a majority of them receiving loads of airplay as well as comments and tweets.

The single that’s been causing ripples through the music industry is Daddy Owen’s brand new ‘Mbona’ which is a song that starkly says: Disability is Not Inability. Fnd out in the list below where it features. Octopizzo seems to be taking over, as you can spot him in two tracks that make it to the hot 7.

We’re listing the most popular LOCAL music in Kenya, based on radio airplay, tweets/comments and requests, lyrical searches right here on Ghafla! Lyrics as well as through weekly polls which we will feature soon.

Here are the current TOP 7 tunes ruling the airwaves and request lines in Kenya for the middle week of not just June but the year 2012. Breathtaking. Say hello to Kambua’s latest product.

I can not even attempt to begin counting the amount of good and humble music that gospel singer, Kambua has delivered to her fans over the years. Even so, her latest product, according to me, is the best gift she could ever give to the gospel industry.

Kambua is the mentor to the latest and most refreshing gospel artiste, going by the name, Makena. Out of inspiration and good influence, this beautiful and soft voiced lady has made her debut and clearly expresses her love for music and devotion to God.

Her track titled ‘Najua Hutaniacha’ which refers to God, is something out of a dream, except that it is an actual voice that of a human being and not an angel, though you might get confused especially at the end of the first verse.

Simply breathtaking and moving to extent of glaring at the sky, with nothing but a peaceful smile across your face. I can’t even imagine how good this song would be if performed with a live band. Makena, never leave this music industry, not even for a second. Please keep them coming. BEAUTIFUL.

Have a listen to it.

Just-A-Band to Perform at International Concert

Kenyan afro-pop experiment, Just-A-Band, will perform in Central Parks Foundation concert at Central Park in New York on the 4th of August. They will perform alongside international acts, Amadou & Mariam and Theophilus London. Central Parks Foundation provides free arts, sports, education and programs that enhance community life in New York City parks. All of the artistes performed at this year’s South By South-west music convention.

Amadou & Mariam is made up of blind Malian couple who aren’t new to performing on the International stage, having graced Coachella, Lollapalooza and even on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The artistes have worked with Santigold, TV on the Radio and Theophilus London, who will also perform at the event.

With only one album, Theophilus London has become one of the most respected alternative hip-hop artistes. The album, Times Are Weird These Days has a 93% rating on Absolute Punk. Just-A-Band shot to international stardom after their Ha-He video went viral and has since performed at SXSW 2012 and exhibited Kudishnyao! at the Rush Arts Gallery in New York among other international shows.

The event is alcohol-free, professional photography-free and people will be searched to ensure they do not bring in the said items. Also not allowed are any kind of food and beverages, transportation equipment like bicycles, rollerblades and skateboards. Other luxuries like pets, umbrellas and folding chairs are also not allowed.

Frasha and Mongolo now vying for MCSK seats

Swagged out rapper, Frasha from the P-Unit music group has now decided to join comedian turned politician, and dear friend, Mongolo in the race to the administration seats at MCSK (Music Corporate Society of Kenya).

Mongolo, who is still sampling the political arena, is vying for the post of Board Member, representing Nairobi.

Frasha on the other hand is aiming for the budget committee.

I have to say that it actually makes a lot of sense to have an actual artiste in the MCSK. I can only hope that they will eventually be effective.

Prezzo growing tired of Goldie… AGAIN?

It’s about that time of the show again when Prezzo is not satisfied with everything around him. Earlier today, Prezzo and Keitta were busy discussing Goldie and her overall performance in the Big Brother House.

It didn’t sound good at all when Prezzo revealed the skeleton that has been deep in his closet. Apparently, he is not much of a fan of Goldie’s cooking. OUCH!

Though he didn’t sound very convincing, there’s no telling what Prezzo might do next. Let’s just wait for his call. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing the ‘puking’ Goldie once again.

Check out the conversation.

WTH! This artist has just taken shots at almost everyone!

We honestly haven’t heard much from him recently, but now Influx Swagga is back and it seems he has a personal vendetta with some of the Kenyan media personalities and artistes.

His latest track, ‘Hii mziki’ off his fourth album titled ‘Wazito’, is kind of his comeback track to the music scene. Maybe it’s just to get guys’ attention or he really means what he says about ‘the other guys’ in this rap track.

Some of the celebrities in his line of fire include; Collo, Lilian Muli, Ciku Muiruri (of Busted) and Patrick Lumumba, as described on information slot of the YouTube video and also evident in the lyrics.

Listen to the track and air your views.

S.K Macharia Owns Half Of THE ENTIRE RADIO INDUSTRY

In the Kenya Advertising Research Foundation’s(KARF) Radio report for Q1 2012, it was revealed that Royal Media Services'(RMS) chain of radio stations owns a combined total of 47% of the market share of radio stations in Kenya. Here is the breakdown of the RMS market share station by station:

Radio Citizen – 17%
Inooro FM – 7%
Ramogi FM – 6%
Musyi FM – 5%
Egesa FM – 2%
Muuga FM – 2%
Chamgei FM – 3%
Wimwaro FM – 2%
Bahari FM – 1%
Hot 96 – 1%
Mulembe FM – 1%

——————————

Grand Total: 47%

Wow.

S.K Macharia is the owner of Royal Media Services. This tremendous market penetration is a great achievement for the man who’s media efforts were famously opposed in court by the Moi administration. His rise was facilitated by the freedom of press enabled by the Kibaki government in 2002.

Maneta seductively grinds on Prezzo

Alcohol seems to be doing wonder for the housemates in Upville as they bring out their wilder personalities that make this whole Stargame worthwhile. Maneta on the other hand, goes a little bit crazier than required, but the more entertainment for us.

Last night, the Upville housemates had some drinks and then decided to let loose. A little bit too loose if you ask me. Maneta, being the most intoxicated of the group, started entertaining her fellow housemates by dancing around the house.

One thing I’ve noticed about Prezzo is that he never wastes a chance to enjoy himself when he spots one, and this time was no different. As soon as Maneta pulled down her pants to her knees and bent over to hold on to the gas heater pole (kinda like a stripper pole), Prezzo immediately jumped out of his sit and took convenient position behind her. On, went the show.

Prezzo could not hide his joy as he smiled and laughed like a little kid receiving candy, while the rest watched. This went on until it was Roki’s turn, after which it got a little bit too serious, to the extent that Maneta had to puke later on. Now this is the BBA show we are familiar with.

STL IS SHUTTING DOWN KENYATTA AVENUE!

This just in: STL is set to shut down Kenyatta Avenue.

The stunning “Lookie Lookie” singer is set to shut down the whole of Kenyatta avenue for a video shoot. She is currently in the country shooting a series of videos with a single already slated to drop on June 29th.

STL

(photo of STL courtesy of ThisIsAfrica)

This move follows Camp Mulla shooting a video along Mama Ngina Street in honour of Nairobbery City. it would seem the streets of Nairobi are becoming a favourite of emcees and artists looking to do songs and videos about the city in the sun.

Lot’s of love and positivity being expressed by Kenya’s younger generation of artists for their city!

As we wait for her new singles and vids to drop, here is a taste of what one of Kenya’s premiere artists has to offer:

SHOCKER! PREZZO WANTS TO LEAVE THE BBA HOUSE!

Prezzo has told Biggie that he wants to leave the BBA house.

In a shocking turn of events, Prezzo has told Biggie that he isn’t a prisoner and he can leave at any time he wants and the time is now apparently. All this transpired after emotions ran high due to a Biggie imposed sanction on any alcoholic beverages.

PREZZO

In what seems to have been an argument with Keitta, Prezzo asked for the door to the house to be opened so he could leave. Kenya’s King of Bling is vexed over the lack of alcohol and he isn’t taking to kindly to anyone telling him that the issue is a trivial one.

Watch the video and make out for yourselves just what he meant from his rant.

Man Wazimu Needs Airtime

The Kenyan music industry may not be as competitive as it is in other markets but artistes still have a hard time breaking through. The main problem is usually capital, finding recording studios and video producers. Even then, convincing TV stations to play your music becomes a hassle.

But in this technological age of cheap (free) software, anyone can produce their music and even shoot their own videos. Marketing stuff online is easier, if you can figure out a way to convince people to check out your music.

Man Wazimu is not a household name in the entertainment industry but he already has an album out. You can find a number of his tracks and videos on YouTube. Mr. Wazimu has totally bypassed the mainstream channels to get his work out. He even performed at Just-A-Band’s Kudishnyao concert last year, where he performed his most famous track, Emergency Pills.

Here is another one of his creations, a song about Nyeri women, titled Airtime. Nyang’anyaooo!
