Fena Gitu’s New Massive African Track!

Kenyan afro-fusion artiste Fena Gitu, otherwise known as the ‘FenaMenal (phenomenal) woman’ thanks to her Twitter alias and her previous single, has just released her third single titled ‘Africa Massive’.

This funky tune follows the release of her first song, Down in 2011 as well as her second track Fenamenal Wo(man) in September 2011.

‘My name is Fena, … representing Kenya – the Pride of Africa’ says the stellar musician, on a track that has a continental feel to it with its traditional drum set features and heavy drops. The song was produced, written and arranged by Fena herself with help from Jaaz Odongo who also mixed and mastered it.

The two have joined forces in what could very well possibly be one of the biggest tracks in the country in recent times. Great work on this new track and beat. ‘Africa Massive’ has got our stamp of approval!

From the first time you give it a listen, the track will blow your mind away with pleasure. Check it out for yourself below…

Prezzo is Africa’s Favourite in the BBA House This Week

The weekend saw Team Kenya in the Big Brother Africa StarGame House lose another representative as Kenya’s Alex was bundled out having garnered virtually no votes from Africa. At least he did not leave the House alone, as he was joined by Ghana’s Keitta who only managed to drum up support from his home country.

Prezzo’s stardom seems to have risen even more if the voting patterns were anything to go by. In a popularity vote pitting him against all the other housemates, he emerged at the top, with Namibia’s Lady May, each garnering 5 votes from Africa.

The good thing is that this shows Kenya has a very strong chance of winning its first ever Big Brother Africa title though the bad thing is that all our hope rests on one individual: Prezzo, with less than 20 days left in the house. The million shilling question however is will he keep it together to last that long?

Here is how Africa voted this week (22 July 2012)

Here’s who which country voted for:

Angola: Lady May
Botswana: Lady May
Ghana: Keitta
Kenya: Prezzo
Liberia: Prezzo
Malawi: Wati
Namibia: Lady May
Nigeria: Lady May
South Africa: Wati
Sierra Leone: Keitta
Tanzania: Prezzo
Uganda: Prezzo
Zambia: Wati
Zimbabwe: Lady May
Rest of Africa: Prezzo

Total: Lady May = 5; Prezzo = 5, Wati = 3, Keitta = 2, Alex = 0. (Total: 15 Votes)

Hellon: “I Will Run For Presidency in 2017”

Former Tusker Project Fame faculty member, Joseph Hellon made news headlines in 2010 following revelations that Esther Arunga, a popular newscaster at the time, had left KTN to join Hellon’s church, The Finger of God. Joined by Quincy Timberlake, the three declared that they are forming a political outfit with which pursue political positions in the next general elections.

After a recent performance at the Hilton, jazz maestro, church founder and occassional media attraction, Joseph Hellon confirmed that he is running for Presidency in 2017. The revelation came after he had been quizzed by Jalang’o about his political aspirations.

Hellon had just performed in front of the crowd when comedian Jalang’o asked him about his political ambitions. That’s when Hellon confirmed that he would not be running for presidency in the coming elections but he will definitely bid for presidency in 2017. Check out the video where he confims his bid below.

Tom Mboya and Evanson Nyaga Scoop 2012 CNN Multichoice Africa Journalist of The Year Award

Kenyan journalists Tom Mboya and Evanson Nyaga jointly scooped the top prize at this year’s CNN Mutlichoice Africa Journalist of the Year Awards which took place this past weekend at the Government Complex Conference Center in the Zambian capital, Lusaka.

Their winning piece, ‘African Tribe in India’, a story about a forgotten African tribe found in Southern India, was selected out of over 1,700 entries from across 42 nations on the continent.

“Journalism is a profession that allows you to go in, and then bring out what the world needs to know.  It is humbling that the Father Lord has brought us this.” said Tom as he accepted the Television Features Award category award. Evanson on the other hand said he was ‘truly humbled’ by this (the award).

“We salute the finalists and the winners of the 2012 awards. These journalists give a voice to Africa and help to make that voice heard around the world. We encourage journalists from around the African continent to continue to tell the stories of Africa – who knows, your story might be celebrated at the 2013 awards,” said Collins Khumalo, the CEO of Multichoice South Africa.

Other Kenyan winners included Citizen TV’s Waihiga Mwaura and Jepitha Mwai Mwangi for their story about the ‘Maasai Cricket Warriors’, scooping a prize in the category Sports Award. NTV Kenya’s Nimrod Taabu Mwagamoyo and Charles Kinyua Kariuki also took home a Television News Bulletin Award for their story about the ‘Pokot Water Challenges’.

Nigeria’s Enenche Akogwu and Zakariya Isa were recognized as this year’s recipients of the Free Press Africa Award, for their work in Nigeria. Zakariya, a cameraman for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), was killed in October 2011, and Enenche, a news reporter with Channels Television, was shot and killed, having covered the Kano bomb blast in January this year.

The overall CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2012 wins a substantial cash prize, a visit to CNN Centre in Atlanta to attend the three-week CNN Journalism Fellowship, along with the prize awarded to all category winners, which consists of a laptop computer, a printer, a Nokia 800 Lumia and an unspecified cash prize.

Mejja Offered A Movie Deal

APOLOGY: An M-NET representative has called to confirm that this story is fake. We are deeply sorry to any parties negatively affected by this false press.

MNET Africa has approached Mejja and offered him a movie deal after watching him perform in his videos. Mejja is known for his comedic music videos, where he acts just as much as he performs. The hilariousness of all of his videos make them get loads of airplay, which has made him a de facto star actor in the process.

Unknown to many, Mejja has been approached by several other media houses with offers to feature in programs and other movies, but he is considering MNET above all the others because they are willing to pay him a LOT of money. They have already put a Toyota Premio on the table in order to sweeten the deal for Mejja.

If all goes according to plan, the movie will be released early 2013.

Jua Cali Currently Living At Tribe Hotel

Jua Cali is currently being forced to live in a hotel after the mansion that he was building in Kahawa West was affected by the heavy rains, flooding most of his ground floor in the process.

He has been staying at the Tribe Hotel for the last one month as constructors are still fixing the damage and working on how to prevent this from happening again.

Jua Cali is a well known Kenyan rapper who shot to fame after his 2007 song ‘Kiasi’ topped the charts. Later the same year, he cut a 10 million shilling brand endorsement deal with Orange Kenya which saw him soar to great heights.

Attention all! First ever Kikuyu rock song!

I just stumbled across this cover of Linkin Park’s “Numb” by a chap named Awesam.

And i was blown away. I had to track down a translator for the track who let me know that the song is a gospel track done in praise of Ngai.

The video is simple and that should not detract from the fact that this lad has done something truly brave: he has thought outside the box and broken the mould.

Have a listen to the track and let me know what you think of it!

Kenyan Record Label Signs Hot Zambian Group

Taurus Musik may have just opened shop but they are going all out on their signings. After welcoming Camp Mulla to their stable immediately after opening, they have now gone for Zambia’s Zone Fam.

The four-member group consists of Dope G, Jay Rox, Thugga and Yung Verbal. Their name comes from a recording studio they used to visit in the group’s early days, The Zone. The group started doing mixtapes individually but they recently worked on an album together, The Business (Foreign Exchange), whose singles got great reviews.

The group which was previously signed to Slam Dunk Records has previously performed on Big Brother and alongside Brick & Lace, Jozi Liquideep and Naeto C. Channel O Awards nominated them for Most Gifted and they won Best African Group at the Global African Music Awards for which their Life Is Good had also been nominated for Best Hip Hop song.

Its time for Kenya to be counted! Save Prezzo and that other guy!

It’s time for the Kenyan lion to roar and be heard beyond the Serengeti!

Let Kenya’s roar shake more than just Tanzania, it’s time Africa heard us roar and what better way to do this than to save Prezzo and that other chap?

Come on people! Let’s vote to keep el Prezidente in the house and increase his chances of winning the money. It will also serve as a thumb in the face of all the South Africans who have been talking greasy about not just Prezzo but Kenyans in general.

The countdown to Beerfest begins!

The countdown to the Beerfest has begun.

And as the clock ticks-tocks away and counts down to the awesome celebration of art and everything frothy, i have just got wind that a local brewer has come onboard!

Tusker is the newest beverage on offer! That means that EABL has come on board and now you can enjoy exotic and foreign beers aswell as local brews as you peruse over the art and creativity that will be on display.

but as will all good things, the key is moderation. Drink with some and as always, don’t drink and drive; only fools and “marehemu” do that!

KENYA’S HOTTEST FEMALE CELEBRITIES!

After alot of hullabaloo and debate, i figure it’s time i weigh in on the hottest female celebrities.

If she nma, then by all means i have her on my omaricha list! This list is one that celebrates beauty and the female form and is a dedication to the celebrities kissed by Aphrodite.
You know i had to throw in a little poetry into this one but without further ado, i present to you:

Lupita Nyong’o get’s favourable mention. She is a dark-skinned lass who for me epitomizes beauty but my colleagues felt that would make this list a list only for me. so for once i caved in to pressure.

#10 Janet Mbugua
for a while she was at the top of any list of beauties but that seems to have changed this time round. The media personality is making her way off the list sadly but that’s life i guess.

JANET MBUGUA

#9 Size 8
This lass is a survivor! That is the one adjective that aptly captures her essence. And after a hardknock life, she emerged just as the butterfly did from it’s cocoon.

SIZE 8

#8 Kambua
What can we say about this gospel nightingale? Oh yeah, she’s married. but there’s no harm in looking and appreciating what the good Lord wrought.

Kambua

#7 Miss Karun
This lass is finally legal meaning that she can begin making appearances on the hottest lists and i shan’t waste anytime in as far as pincluding her in mine is concerned. And she debuts at number 7 having beaten off stiff competition. Not bad for a debut.

MISS KARUN

#6 Avril
This lass has that girl next door with a naughty sparkle in her eye and that little subtle detail adds on immensley to her aesthetic appeal. It’s her X-factor!

AVRIL

#5 Edith Kimani
Once upon a reality show, a yopung lass was unvieled in the land of tinsel town and ithe nation fell in-love with her. And what is not to like? This lass has it all when aesthetic appeal is taken into account.

EDITH KIMANI

#4 Marya
To be frank, this is my colleagues choice rather than my own. They felt that this list would be a rumour if she didn’t get close to the coveted number one slot. This songstress, is not just attractive but she has a voluptuous body that makes her an easy sell. I was convinced once i had seen some of her professionally done photos.

MARYA

#3 Sarah Hassan
When i think of this lass, the words ooh-lala! come to mind! Ok well, it’s more of an expression than words but… And moving on swiftly, this lass was the reason alot of lads would tune into Citizen to watch Tahidi High and i for one love “Mashariki Mix” because i get to ogle all i can *evil grin*

SARAH HASSAN

#2 Brenda Wairimu
Ofcourse this tantalizing light skin beauty would be on the list! I have a preference for darker skinned lasses but she is a “red-boned” lass iu have no qualms about including in the list. And if you don’t find this lass attractive then you need to either have your eyes checked, your lenses adjusted or your head checked!

BRENDA WAIRIMU

#1 Anita Nderu aka Lil Oreo
The only thing about this particular lass that is unattractive is her nickname. Growing up, that name meant something um…. how do i hang an air freshener on this one… it meant a coconut. But in the looks department, this lass has it all. And to top this off, she has a sophisticated air about her. What’s not to like?

Kenya’s own Mavado freestyle

Kenya’s own Mavado, Marc Brunnel has lately impressed Kenyans with his music that resembles those of the Jamaican dancehall artistes.

It is actually really hard to tell the difference between his music and those of the Jamaicans, unless of-course you are Jamaican.

Marc Brunnel has also unleashed his own freestyle video, being the first dancehall artiste to ever do this (in Kenya).

Check it out.

Bamboo, Dempsey, Parking Lot Grass and Other Artistes Announced for Art & Beer Fest

The most heated freestyle battle at the ‘Don’t break the beat’ audition

This battle was between two guys, of which one of them has actually been around and about the music industry but hasn’t really received much recognition. Well, I guess this is the time that the real rappers are actually discovered and given a real chance.

Rapper Eli Sketch, or as he’s now commonly known, Sketch, killed it in this freestyle battle at the Nokia: Don’t break the Beat. His opponent was also very entertaining but he really stood no chance against this guy.

Mind you, these are real freestyle battles and not written material at all. Listen to this.

Jongo Love making it big on radio

You’ve probably heard about the new series that’s been running on radio lately, kind of like  a drama series depicting the lives of the youths in Kenya and all the write and wrong decisions they make in matters concerning alcohol, drugs and sex.

Jongo Love has now been running on Ghetto Radio for a while and is already among the popular radio programmes right now. Apart from having all that sex talk, it’s even more interesting because it has Octopizzo himself in it, and his music as soundtrack.

The show also has mini clips on YouTube that briefly cover some of the latest topics from the show, since the action connot really be seen on YouTube now, can it?

This is one of their clips and you can find the rest aligned.

DJ Sadic & BMF to Perform at the Next Club 3:16

Past events have had performances from Kevoh Yout, Dice, Lonesome among other established and upcoming artistes.

Finally! A real gospel party song

Gospel music is becoming more exciting and very very entertaining if the music being released these days are anything to go by.

As the clubs are now being taken over by the gospel revellers, and gospel music filling up the sound at parties, there is no doubt that the artistes know exactly what they are doing.

The S.P.A.T crew has now unleashed their own party song that is set to be the new gospel party anthem all over east Africa. I mean, this song is just too much. It’s a feel good song that can actually get you on the dance floor immediately after reading the Bible and not feel guilty at all… SERIOUSLY!

The S.P.A.T has just made gospel a lot more fun with this new track ‘Celebrate’ that has just launched it’s official video (also their first video ever as a group).

This is just too amazing. Check it out.

SO BRAVE: Jua Cali Stops A Plane From Crashing

While on a recent European tour, Juacali became a local hero in Amsterdam after preventing a plane from crashing just before it took off. Here’s what happened:

Juacali had just boarded a plane that was going from Amsterdam to London. He got the window seat. Looking outside as he sat in his chair, he noticed the left engine of the plane was producing some black smoke. Juacali sensed that something was amiss. He immediately alerted the beautiful air hostesses to the problem. Shortly afterwards, everybody was instructed to get off the plane.

The pilots said they were 5 minutes away from taking off but Jua Cali’s keen observation actually saved the day. The airport paid for his trip and he was awarded with 10 bonus first class tickets, valid for 5 years.

Goldie opens up about everything, including her status with Prezzo

Evicted BBA player and Nigeria’s representative has finally put everything behind her and is ready to unleash all that she kept under the stone. She seems to have actually forgiving every single person that stubbed her in the back, including Prezzo who nominated her for eviction.

In a recent press briefing in Nigeria, Goldie was asked a lot of questions concerning her ‘lover’ Prezzo and all that went down at the Big Brother House.

Goldie did not hold back on anything at all and instead, gave it her all.

Check it out.

Alex’s mattress stolen!

Alex was in for a rude surprise last night. As he was busy pulling the moves on Jannett downstairs, just having a very long conversation, the rest of the boys were mischievously planning on a prank to pull on the poor guy.

The boys took out the mattress from Alex’s bed and later spread it like everything was still intact. Later, as Alex headed to the bedroom to prepare himself for sleep, the boys couldn’t help but giggle as they watched him walk over to the bed.

Check out the prank below.

Clemo Tries To Buy A House In Karen, But…

According to our sources at Calif Records, Clemo recently wanted to acquire a house in the leafy suburbs of Karen. After making up his mind on the type of house he wanted, he came across a classified ad in one of the local dailies which was advertising a 5 bedroom mansion in Karen with a swimming pool and personal gym. This was the house Clemo chose to buy, so he called the number that was provided in the ad.

Clemo was attended to by a man called Jasto, who went ahead to arrange for a viewing of the house on a Saturday. When the two finally met, Jasto insisted that Clemo hand over 20% of the asking price prior to viewing the house. Clemo smelled a rat, so he got into a fight with the real estate agent.

Lucky for Clemo, his whole Calif crew had accompanied him, so they grabbed Jasto and took him to Karen police station. At the cell, Jasto was identified as a wanted criminal. The house that was allegedly being sold actually belonged to an expatriate who was out of the country at the time.

You Can Advertise On Citizen TV For As Little As Kshs. 10,300

Did you know you can advertise for as little as Kshs. 10,300 on Citizen TV? If you want to enjoy that deal, make sure your ad is five seconds or less (an extra second is rounded off to the next rate, which is Kshs. 20,150). Also, that means it will show between 1:05 a.m and 5:59 a.m., otherwise known as “masaa ya Koinange.”

That amount, which seems affordable, is listed on Citizen TV’s rate card as the cheapest spot. That five hour window offer doesn’t even compare to the Kshs. 208,390 you have to pay to have an advertisement in the middle of the daily Citizen News show.

During that time slot, Al Jazeera TV airs and after that, Aerobics (through 3ABN) on weekdays and Turning Point on weekends from 5:30 a.m.

Citizen has grown from a troubled television network that even lost its license in the late ’90s to one of the most powerful media houses in the region with a network of TV and radio stations with an extensive reach throughout the country.

Citizen has grown from a troubled television network that even lost its license in the late ’90s to one of the most powerful media houses in the region with a network of TV and radio stations with an extensive reach throughout the country.

Mercy Myra’s ‘Money Troubles’

Hot off the release of her brand new come back song African Tango, Kenyan bombshell Mercy Myra has a catchy new release which is set to take the industry by storm.

The title, Money Troubles, could have some underlying inspiration to it, but that’s just speculation for now, but we’ve had a listen to it and it definitely does grow on you. The accoustics and African feel to it give it a sense of authenticity overlying the feeling of an ‘The Apprentice’ sampling. Great work though Mercy!

Juliani’s Documentary Featured in Huffington Post Contributor’s Blog

We recently reported that Juliani’s documentary had been featured on Webby Award-winning film Website, IndieWire. And now the 30-minute doc has been featured on A View From the Cave, a blog owned by Huffington Post blogger, Tom Murphy.

On the same post, Murphy features another Juliani documentary about the environment. The documentary was part of Juliani’s work in trying to popularize Google+ in Kenya. The documentary follows Juliani’s journey across the country for a show in Mombasa together with five fans who he picked through the social network.

This is part of what Murphy has to say about the short: “The Google promotional aspects are a little heavy-handed at times, but it is an interesting story of a young musician. For those who are looking for different stories from the continent of Africa, this is one example.”

Other than Huffington Post, Murphy also blogs for The Christian Science Monitor and Global Health Hub and is the Deputy Editor of Healthy Lives Blog by PSI.

Have you always wanted to hang out with Camp Mulla?

have you always wanted to hobknob with the stars as they do their thing?

Well, here’s your chance. Tomorrow, the Camp will be giving back to society in Kibera at Kids of Kibera doing some good works.

If you want to join them, why not mozzy on down but keep in mind that we are Africans and we never show up empty handed so buy some goodies for the kids and join the starlets at the centre.

I for one would like to tilt my hats to the lads and lass for taking some initiative and giving back to their city.
