Actor Turns to Music. Check Out His Debut Single

Trevor Gitonga is a man (or is it boy?!) of many talents. He is mostly recognized as an actor, but what most people don’t know is that he is also an emcee, songwriter and public speaker.

Trevor is most famously known for his role in the Jinna Mutune production, Leo. The critically acclaimed movie was backed by Pastor Julian Kyula, businessman Bernard Wambugu and Capital FM owner and DJ, Chris Kirubi.

Looks like the young star has decided to venture into the musical world. He has released a single with Stella Kagendo. You can check out his debut single, Pedal to the Medal, below.

It’s High Time Kenya Had A Signature Premier Festival/Concert!

I think the Kenyan entertainment industry has come a long way!

With that said and out of the way, it’s time Kenya had a huge concert or event that would be Kenya’s signature event.

Think about it, all the entertainment bigwigs and the industries finest events companies coming together to give Kenyans an epic “to-die-for” event. Germans have Oktoberfest, in New Orleans (in American) there is Mardi Gras and in Brazil there is The Carnival. What about Kenya?

Mardi-Gras-2011

We have so many capable events organisers who can come together (let’s face it, something like this is way too grand for any singular company so let’s not get greedy!) and give Kenyans a party to die for. Maybe during the Kenyan “summertime” a.k.a dry season or during the December holidays or during… i don’t even know, they should simply work that out!

When you think about it, depending on the scale, the Government could even get involved because the potential revenue generated would be phenomenal and it can be marketed as a tourist attraction.

All that would be needed of the government would be security forces out in their numbers to maintain the peace but Kenyan eke would need alot of P.R training so they don’t end up creating a riot of Kenyans fighting them.

My mouth is actually watering at the prospects of a Kenyan event that would rival anything seen before and one that Kenyans would have to look forward to.

Top 5 Reality Shows in Kenya

Here ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls is the list of the top reality shows that have been aired on your TV sets thus far.

#5 East and Southern Africa M-Net Idols
M-Net Idols is one of the world’s most successful reality TV formats, with local versions of the show airing in over 40 territories. In the USA, Idols is the number one series with an audience of 37 million viewers. However, from the look of things, the show was a complete flop in Kenya hence the failure to make a comeback. M-Net Idols is perhaps not an effort in vain. Grammy Award winning Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Fantasia all launched their careers through M-Net Idols. The East and Southern Africa chapter which came to a close in May 2008 had the likes of Eric Moyo (the winner)& Nicolette Kiiga of Zimbabwe, Chibwe & Debra Chansa of Zambia and Cynthia Kuto & Christine Adda of Kenya ,Faycal of Uganda and Samantha T. Easy FM’s Angela Angwenyi was in the panel of judges alongside two other personalities.

Idols
#4 The Presenter
The Presenter was a 16 week job interview where one contestant would get the opportunity to work at KTN as a presenter. The reality show was aired from December 2008 and reached its culmination in March 2009. In my view the show should have been some involvement of the other contestants who did not make it to the final. Just as in other elimination reality TV shows like The Apprentice, their opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of the finalists should have been sought. All in all, it was a good show as it brought us TV personalities like James Karani and Edith Kimani both working at KTN presently as well as Gitobu Koome (91.5 Hits drive time show presenter).

#3 Slimpossible
This is also another show that has continued to do well since inception. Basically Slimpossible is a healthy competition for ladies which in a nutshell are a total lifestyle change whereby the participants have to eat healthy and work-out regularly. The lady who loses the most weight the healthy way emerges the Slimpossible winner. In terms of following, the show has a huge fan base from women majorly because they are more concerned about weight issues. One thing is certain though, the entire 12 week period of the show is really a “weighty matter”.

slimpossible
#2 Sakata Dance Battle
Sakata is the unrivalled Kenya’s ultimate dance show. The show targets dance groups with three to six members. Having successfully mounted and managed the first two seasons, the organizers are giving it another shot this year. To that effect, Sakata Season 3 kicked off officially on Sunday. As usual, never-seen-before talent is expected as the dance groups will be struggling to out-do each in order to clinch the coveted prize.

#1Tusker Project Fame
Better known as TPF, Tusker Project Fame is so far the best reality show that we’ve had in Kenya and the entire East African Region. And this is evident from the number of corporates that are always in the frontline to marshal up support for the show.
Not only does EABL benefit from the show in terms of big margins in sales but the contestants as well have a share of the pie. Save from the fact that only the winner and two runners-up take home prizes, other contestants also get their fair share of “stardom”.

Get Rabbit’s quotes and hottest lyrics right here

With Rabbit qualifying to be among the top ten lyrically lethal rappers in Kenya, it only makes sense if his lyrics are actually hot and worth reading and listening to.

Very few lyricists take the time to sit and think about the lyrics they are about to put in a song and the impact that they will have on their listeners. Rabbit aka Kaka Sungura aka Story Teller, happens to be one of the few. The depth of his lyrics match that of a poet and that is undeniable with his latest ‘Swahili Shakespeare’ out there.

It is composition like this that makes you look for the lyrics everywhere and anywhere. Well, search no more. Rabbit has made all his punch lines and favorite lines from his songs available on his new facebook page titled ‘RABBIT KAKA SUNGURA QUOTES’. Get them here.

Blogger Dennis Itumbi under fire… AGAIN!

This fearless blogger knows no limit. Not even the CID can intimidate this inquisitive fellow. He digs deep, uncovers stuff that we apparently shouldn’t know about, and at the end of it all, trouble becomes his shadow.

Dennis Itumbi has once again found himself in hot soup and this time, he ended up paying for it (for now, it may seem).  The blogger and journalist had been in police custody after he was sued by the Kenya Police for allegedly hacking into, and leaking e-mail messages from the Jetlink Airlines. These e-mails are said to have contained information about negligence from the airline, claiming that they fly planes that have been declared unfit for the skies by engineers.

Itumbi was released today morning after paying a Sh. 100, 000 bail. He even tweeted about it, expressing relief on his part.

This comes months after the CID suspected him of hacking into the International Criminal Court (ICC) website.

The case will be heard on the 6Th of September 2012.

Missed the Kalamashaka flow? They come alive once again

I don’t know if you guys miss the Kalamashaka sound as a trio as much as I do. Old is gold and this applies to music all so well. Hip hop from back in the days when it was still at its junior years in Kenya was worth spending the whole day listening to.

Kama, Johnny and Roba made Kenyan hip hop, up until crank and all other crazy music influenced and corrupted the African sound, but then again, change is inevitable. That much I can accept.

This however will not stop us from celebrating some of the best songs that came from this legendary hip hop group that inspired most of the present day rappers and it seems that someone else out there agrees with me. A series of old legendary music from Kalamashaka has been uploaded to YouTube and is now available for everyone.

To get you started, here is one of their best tracks from back then, ‘Tahidi’.

He is Man Wazimu, and he brought us ‘Emergency Pills’. Get his album now

Man Wazimu did a song a while back and the video just went viral. The reasons for the ’emergency pills’ video going viral is still unclear, but we would like to think that it is because of it’s uniqueness.

Although the song and the video were both criticized on YouTube and mercilessly put down, Man Wazimu lived up to his name and pressed on, dishing out more songs despite the number of haters on his YouTube channel. I have to say that I really admire this guy’s devotion to his music. Pretty strong too.

Amid all the hate and high peach vocals, Man Wazimu released his album and is now on sale at various shopping centres country wide. The album is titled ‘My Say’ and is available at Leisure Village, Nakumatt Lifestyle and King’s Highway Accra Plaza.

Meanwhile, get a load of ‘Emergency Pills’ below.

Remember Kanda Bongo Man? Well, He’s back!!!

If you were born form the early 90s like most of the generation z guys you probably have no idea about who Kanda Bongo Man is. Well, this is the guy that was on the lips of many music lovers in Kenya some 20 or so years ago. So popular he was that the then President, Daniel Moi wondered loudly “Who is this man driving Kenyans crazy?”

Anyhow, that was then, fast forward to 2012…

The King of Kwasa Kwasa is back in the country and is promising lingala fans a thrilling performance having already put up a string of events in Nairobi and Mombasa. His first stop will be at Deep West Resort Club in Nairobi West on Friday where he is expected to perform alongside Banoko International Band who is his Kenyan-based counterparts.

The Inde Monie, Muchana, Sai and Liza hits-maker will then travel down to the Coast to perform at the Palm City in Mombasa on Saturday. Kanda who is now based in the UK is also expected to visit charity organizations.

Speaking during an interview, Kanda expressed enthusiasm ahead of his performance slated for the weekend. “I feel honoured to visit Kenya where I had one of the biggest fan bases,” Kanda said.

Just wondering if the kwasa kwasa dance maestro still has the magic wand to make his music resonate among his fans…

Abbas Called Him Out, But K-Nel is Not Ready to Beef

When Abbas returned, we expected some hot stuff from him. Yesterday, he gave us some hot stuff, but not what he expected. The rapper called out a fellow rapper, K-Nel, in his very first post-European tour beef.

Interesting is that Abbas’ first performance when he arrived in the country was the Hip Hop Slam Down, which organized by K-Nel himself. Through his Facebook, Abbas called K-Nel a conman for giving fake deals to other artistes.

We expected serious effects after the accusations but looks like K-Nel is going to be the better man and take the high road. He has not addressed Abbas over the issue directly. He says he is just going to concentrate on his video launch, which will take place later this week.

Here are some of the messages he posted online with regard to the issue:

I LOVE THE NEGATIVE TALK, THE CONTROVERSY SOME FEW HEADS ARE PERPETRATING. AM RELEASING AN OFFIAL VIDEO IN LESS THAN 48 HOURS

In my #anglohili World we strongly don’t entertain Controversy. Silence is a lethal killer weapon. Let him fight his own war.

KENYA’S OWN HOT GOSPEL ARTIST DECLARED 2ND MOST BEAUTIFUL MARRIED WOMAN IN THE WORLD!

Move over Kambua, make way for the other hot married lady Esther Wahome.

Esther Wahome recently came up runners up in the beauty pageant Mrs. Beautiful Universe where she was the only Black African (the irony) in the contest.
Esther who has been married for 16 years was considered beautiful and exotic enough to merit the name “Pantera” was running up against stiff competition from other beautiful wives ranging from 25 years of age to 45 in the pageant that ran from August 4th with the crowning night being on the 11th of August.

entcap120909_03.jpg
This is no mean feat given that she was competing with contestants who had previously won other big brand pageants and others whose faces grace billboards around the world ergo even she admits that she didn’t hold any delusions of even breaking through to the top 20.
Truly her God is one of multiple blessings… to the lucky HUSBAND. Think about it, he is married to the 2nd most beautiful bride in the universe let alone the world! She even introduced him to the world at the contest held in Russia and the crowd applauded his game… Afterall, he did manage to bag the beauty 16 years ago and the are now happily married in wedded bliss.

Congratulations to the lucky Gospel Queen for whom God is opening up new avenues and opportunities.

Jaguar’s Matapeli Gets a House Remix

Jaguar’s Matapeli is so popular that he doesn’t have to do a remix himself. Other people are. The electro fever that is sweeping the music industry isn’t going to leave the Kigeugeu follow-up behind.

Looks like Jaguar’s video for his latest single, Matapeli, is proving to be just as popular as his smash hit, Kigeugeu. The song has just short of 50,000 views on YouTube less than a month after its release. And that is not counting the thousands of views it’s getting on other people’s channels.

Red La Familia’s DJ Abcentii has released an “official” house remix of the Jaguar track. I guess “official” means Jaguar, who is currently on the Niko Na Safaricom Live Tour approves. Check out the house remix below.

Showtimes & Premiere Date For Local Gangster Film Announced

It’s sad how you rarely see high quality films being made in Kenya. Even sadder is that even the few ones that get made rarely get a theatrical run. This year, we will get to see a locally made film get a premier and even have some cinema time.

Nairobi Half Life, the much anticipated Tosh Gitonga-directed gangster film will premiere on Thursday and open to the public the following day on the 31st of August. The film will screen at Planet Media Cinemas at Westgate during the 3.20 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. shows every day.

The film thrilled South African audiences during its world premiere at the Durban International Film Festival last month, even winning a Best Actor award for Joseph K. Wairimu. The actor won for his portrayal of Mwas, a young man who’s had enough of village life but finds city life overwhelming after he joins a gang.

Ticket prices are Kshs. 350 on weekdays and 450 on weekends. Check out the trailer below.

Photo Gallery: Behind-the-scenes At Chiwawa’s Latest Video Shoot

With so much mineral water news, we almost forgot that Chiwawa is a music artiste. Well, that is not all he is concentrating on. As he makes his big splash into business, he is also reviving his music career.

Imejipa is Chiwawa’s latest single, and the video is highly anticipated. The beat was provided by the guys from SNL. Yes, they don’t only make music from news clips. The video was shot by Tattuah Films, the guys who did Rabbit’s Swahili Shakespeare.

The girl who appears in the video is not the actual one who features on the song. The original singer, Faith, died and her sister, Stacy Samba, appears on the clip. The video was shot in Karen and the KICC rooftop. Check out photos from the shoot below.

Tattuu to Reunite For a Show As One of Their Members Makes a Comeback

Remember Shinde of Tattuu? She is back. She was a member of the singing trio, Tatuu, which broke up a few years ago.

She will perform at The Louis Leakey Auditorium on the 4th of September. The show titled Up Close and Personal will take place between 8:00 and 11:00 p.m.

The singer has now gone solo and is ready to re-enter the local music scene. And this will not be a one-off show. The singer has actually recorded an album to accompany her grand comeback.

At the Up Close and Personal gig, she will be accompanied by Aaron Rimbui and–guess who–her colleagues from Tattuu. It will be exciting to see the Kipawa Music-managed artiste return and take on the industry alone.

Tattuu was a trio made up of Angela “Rabbo” Ndambuki, Debbie Asila and Angela “Shinde” Mwandanda. Besides music, Shinde has also performed as an actor. She appeared on last year’s Village Christmas stage play at Mavuno.

Sauti Sol Is The Finest Kenyan Band To Walk This Earth. Here’s Why:

Their authentic sound

They draw inspiration from the forefathers of African music. Bien, Mudigi, Polycarp and Chimano draw their inspiration from Daudi Kabaka, Fadhili Williams and the like. And they STILL manage to remain cool. How they do it is their secret.

Their live performances are proper

You will have no shouting on stage at a Sauti Sol concert. These guys know that their fans and sponsors pay a lot of money to have them perform, and they deliver straight value for money. No jokes!

They got a fine business sense

The model that they have pursued for producing music is optimal for business. They record an entire album, then launch it with grand fanfare, launch a hot single to whet fans’ appetite, then continue to release songs one by one to the local radio stations. This tactic increases their music sales, and at the same time keeps them in demand for shows over a long period.

They tour like mad

To follow through where the last point left off, Sauti Sol are quite special when it comes to planning their tours within Kenya and abroad. Never has a Kenyan band proceeded to conquer the world circuit again and again with such ruthless efficiency. The team at Penya Africa are doing a stellar job. Keep on keeping on.

They have cross demographic appeal

Whether you are from the hilly valleys of Kakamega, or from the concrete jungle in Nairobi, Sauti Sol don’t leave you feeling alienated. Why? They sing in fluent English, Kiswahili and their native Luhya dialect. That’s a rare triple threat that you don’t get from many Nairobi bands, ESPECIALLY those from suburbia.

They have cross border appeal

These guys top charts from Kenya to the Netherlands. They also have mzungu fans screaming their name at international festivals such as South by South West in Austin, Texas. But don’t take my word for it, just take a look at the video below this article for their spellbinding performance of ‘Awinja’ at SXSW earlier this year:

Could this be the next rapper on Abbas Kubaff’s hit list?

You definitely know that Abbas is back in full throttle when you hear that he is involved in yet another beef. Come to think of it, Abbas should be named the undisputed king of beef. This guy has battled them all and has come out unscathed in most, and he still stands.

This time though, his beef with this rapper is acceptable and actually, we can even support this. Apparently, Abbas has had it with this con men who call themselves producers and promoters and has once and for all waged war on one of them. K Nel didn’t see this coming.

K-Nel

K Nel from Anglohili, who is also a rapper, has been accused by Abbas for conning artistes with fake deals. Abbas made it clear through his facebook account by posting,

“Reality check: It has come to my attention that the music industry has been invaded by individuals who are eventually destroying it by doing bad business and violating artists’ rights. This individual called K-Nel Anglohili is going round town giving artists fake deals. Word to all my fellow artists… brake that circle… I am hip hop so I must protect me.”

This might just be the beginning of a series of rap battles so prepare for more lyrical display of art.

The Story Behind Chiwawa’s Mineral Water Brand

Turns out, Chiwawa’s “new” mineral water brand is not as new as we thought it was. Apparently, Minerva has been around for about a year. It was one of the ventures Chiwawa undertook when he became a dad.

The mineral water has been sold around the Rongai and Karen area for the duration it has been on the market. In fact, Chiwawa’s hiatus in music can be blamed on the time he took out to strategize this business plan.

Chiwawa does not only sell Minerva through the bottles, he also does refills for home water dispensers. The next plan is to have Minerva spread from Rongai and Karen to the whole of Nairobi. Check out more photos below.

Admired True Blood Actress in Kenya

While season finale for True Blood was airing on TV screens on Sunday in America, vampire Pam — actress Kristin Bauer Van Straten – was in Kenya playing a totally different role.

trueblood

The actress was at the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi visiting the cute calves. She is a celebrity patron of the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and is in Kenya to make a documentary with her husband, South African musician Abri Van Straten, that will highlight the threat to elephants and rhinos.

This morning, Bauer Van Straten not only shared a photo of herself from the True Blood finale, she tweeted: “This morning a Lion walked by the car 2 ft. away from trueblood2me, stopped, looked at me & sauntered off.”

She is reported to spend four weeks filming the documentary about the effort to stop elephant ivory and rhino horn poaching.

Prezzo: Goldie has refused to talk to me. This is messed up

Prezzo has not been too happy lately and I feel him completely. What Goldie is doing is just cruel. I mean, dude travelled all the way to Nigeria just to talk to this lady and set things straight and she is not impressed?

Prezzo is right. This is indeed messed up. Ever since he has been in Nigeria, he has pulled all strings possible to see and talk to Goldie, but all in vain. Goldie knows perfectly well that Prezzo is there for her (who doesn’t), and yet she has completely avoided the poor guy. According to Prezzo, Goldie has ignored all his calls. I can only hope that he hadn’t bought the ring yet. This is what happens when you fall in-love on International Television. Keagan has the full notes on this.

Amid all this, Prezzo still believes that they will end up together and he is not about to give up on their love. I really wish you the best on this Prezzo. I really do.

Check out Lon’ Jon’s latest track. Hip hop right here

When it comes to laying down bars, this rapper knows not play. He goes straight for the kill, which in this matter, is the rap game.

Lon’ Jon is a respected and acknowledged Kenyan rapper who has been around for a quite a while now. It comes a time though, when the fans start questioning the relevance of an artiste, and with this new song, Lon’ Jon has just put them all down with his new track ‘Go get it’.

I love the old school hip hop beats and the aggressive flow that he has maintained through out the song. Others may think of this to be too much influenced by the Western music but personally, I really think that you can never say no to change for so long.

Check out his latest track, ‘Go get it’.

Roki and Maneta fight turned into play. DVD available next week

Just when we thought that everyone would have forgotten about this and moved on, some genius play writer come up with a play for it and is about to make a killing from it.

There is no limit to hustle. This play writer surely know this too much. Zimbabwe was all over the Roki and Maneta fight back in the Big Brother House and though it may be a little bit old for us, these guys love their drama and they are not about to let it go.

By the crowds that the play ‘Roki and Maneta (Encounter)‘ pulled in at the Theatre In The Park (Harare), it must be a really good play.

“The show has been amazing with good attendance as well as good performances. We have not changed from our earlier decision to show the play for one week. However, those who are not in Harare will have to buy the DVDs which will be released starting from next week,” Guzha, the producer and director of the play said.

The play which was produced by Rooftop Productions will now be available all over Africa from next week.

What’s even better about it is that the starts are themselves. That’s right, Roki and Maneta.

Nonini Has Kept His Promise. He Has Come Up with a Plan to Help Upcoming Artistes

Nonini had previously announced that he is coming up with a plan to help artistes who had been bombarding him with requests to join his Pro Habo label (check it out here). He had also promised that he would do something to help them, and he has kept his promise.

Today, the rapper and radio presenter has announced that he is on the lookout for fresh talent. “Send me your 8-bars acapella freestyle of yourself in mp3 format. Be as creative as you wanna be,” announced Nonini through his Facebook.

You don’t have to be a rapper to take up the challenge, even singers are allowed. Both rappers and singers have to maintain the 8-bar rule. “If you don’t know what 8-bars is, then this is not for you,” he says.

If you are an unsigned upcoming artiste, then this might be your big break. Just show your creativity, record and send it to prohabo@noninimusic.com.

Nonini & Amani Want to Solve Your Relationship Issues

Nonini will be solving your relationship issues on his breakfast show with yet another public figure. This week, he invites celebrated singer, Amani.

If you have relationship issues, send an email to nonini@1fm.co.ke and you can have two celebrities sort you out. Nonini introduced the new segment on his breakfast show less than a month after he started hosting the 1FM’s Breakfast Show on 97.1FM.

Last week, Nonini solved relationship issues together with singer, Lady Bee. How it works is: a celebrity co-hosts the segment everyday with Nonini, reading out emails sent by listeners experiencing relationship problems.

Let’s Do The Azonto…

The Azonto dance sensation has smashed into clubs in Nairobi. The Florida Night Club aka The Maddhouse will be presenting the dance every month. Azonto has its roots in Ghana is a major hit in West Africa.

Unveiled officially last week, the dance is anticipated to give Kenyans a feel of West African. This comes at a time when Nigerian music has rented the airwaves with off the hook jams from the likes of D’banj, 2Face, P-Square, Davido among others.

Organizers of what has come to be known as “The Azonto Experience” already have plans of bringing on board artistes from West Africa to ensure the event is a force to reckon with in the Kenyan entertainment scene.

DJ Burn, who is one of the organizers, says, “West African music is the music to watch out for, people across the world are yearning for something new, and that void is being filled by African music.”

The Azonto Experience is expected to bring a new twist to the music scene in Kenya and the entire East Africa region as a whole.

Let’s watch them do the Azonto…

Move over Julie Gichuru, here comes the hot new kid on the block: Michelle K. Morgan. When she came up on the screen on her debut news presentation with her accent straight from Landan, the consensus on social media was clear:

#KUMBATOTOSITORTOISE

As my crazy co-writer Uncle Chim-Tuna would say, “This lass can definitely gerrit.” This is without a doubt a top candidate for the next “Hit or Miss” segment at the Ghafla!HQ. Click the photo to enlarge.

The Big Problem With Reverbnation That No One Wants To Admit

ReverbNation.com is a web site, launched in 2006, that focuses on the independent music industry. It aims to provide a central site for musicians, producers, and venues to collaborate and communicate.

ReverbNation provides a widget that allows its members to place content on web pages. This TuneWidget is a feature that links back to additional content, such as music recommended by the band who created the widget.

Upcoming Kenyan artists have flocked to this website as some sort of saviour, given that it allows them to distribute their music at almost no cost. Many normal Kenyan citizens can attest to how they have been littered with alerts on their Facebook and Twitter profiles from celebrities egging them on to listen to music on the ‘Reverb Widget.’ However, as excited as artists may be about Reverb, there is one major flaw in the website: THE FANS ARE NOT ON THERE.

Lets look at the numbers:

A feature called Band Equity measures popularity based on four metrics of its service: reach, influence, access, and recency with the top 100 of each genre being recognized.

When we look at the artists with the highest Band Equity in Kenya, we come up with these figures:

1. Nonini – 1,208 Reverbnation Fans
2. Avril – 576 Reverbnation Fans
3. Wahu – 250 Reverbnation Fans

In “internet terms,” that is a really small number of fans to have after having a profile up for more than a year. Perhaps it’s time for local artists to look for websites that will promote them better… ( *cough* Ghafla *cough* )

Here is yet another one from Kitu Sewer, just incase you forgot his lyrical prowess

Though his music may not be so mainstream, he is definitely recognised as one of the most talented rappers in Kenya. This guy qualifies to be a poet and he know it too, thus the alias, Kitu Sewer The Poet.

He showed up in support of his fellow rappers, Autopilots which constitutes of rappers Losh Mzuqa, MC Kenzie and Yobbz, in their latest collaboration that possesses more bars than a jail house.

Their song which has just been launched is titled ‘Ma-night runners’ and the video for the song is currently on the works. ‘Ma-night runners’ is all about the nocturnal business that provide a living for most people. This will prove to be very interesting to the ‘hustlers’.

Have a listen to the new track below. I know you will enjoy it. I know I did.

A Hilarious Open Letter to DStv & Multichoice

This is an open letter to DStv Kenya/Multichoice, by Ngash Mtrue. Check out the hilarious letter below.

I’m writing this as an esteemed client for the last couple of years and I wish to state that the quality of programmes are way below my expectations. You have been repeating movies and documentaries at an amazing rate and still charging us exorbitant fees.

Last night on M-net Action, Con-Air was being screened for the 12th time in 40 days!!! I look at the comedy channel and there’s nothing to smile about. You are screening comedies that were the in thing in the early ’90s, way before Tupac’s death!!!

While I do understand that repetitions are a must in the pay TV business, you have taken to a whole new level. Matter of fact, apart from SuperSport, ESPN, BBC Knowledge and the Discoveries channels, everything else borders a fraud.

I honestly can’t wait for my subscription to expire so that I can join either Zuku or Starcom. Zuku are offering more channels than you, internet connection and a land line at a cheaper rate than your premium package. Starcom on the other hand are screening updated reality TV programmes like the Kardashians, Amazing Race etc.

They are also screening the latest flicks like Spiderman and Batman while you are busy feeding us Con-Air and Walker, the Texas ranger! Come on, you do realize that you are milking us dry and giving us substandard programmes. Could you please introduce a sports only package, SuperSports and ESPN or I jump ship.

I have figured that I can get quality pay TV from Starcom for Kshs. 500 per month and a one time connection fee of Kshs. 4,000 which I shall raise from the sale of my DSTV dish as scrap metal. Then, I shall be watching the EPL/La Liga games at my local pub where even if I consume four beers per game every weekend, it will be way below the Kshs. 6,900 you are charging me for substandard programmes and outdated movies.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Chuck Norris on my screen! Over to you DStv Kenya.

PS- I’m actually watching another repeat on the Universal Channel even as I type this letter!!!

6 AM Entertainment: Kikoy Culture, How It Went Down

On Saturday, the good folk at 6AM threw a proper party by the name “Kikoy Culture”.

And an epic night was had by all! I was there having a wicked time at V.I.P and trust me when i say that if you missed out, you really missed out.

The only complaint i have to raise was the issue of security outside Racecourse. I witnessed armed thugs terrorise a man unfortunate enough to have his car die on him at the entrance. I would like to see armed policemen on patrol as the good folk who organised Farenheit Party did.

Anyway, enough said, here are some of the sights you missed:

Nonini Has Been Overwhelmed by Artistes Seeking Help. He is Finally Going to Act

Rapper and radio presenter knows what it’s like being an upcoming artiste with no support from producers, radio DJs and established artistes. In his position as studio owner and radio presenter, he interacts with a lot of artistes in need of studio time and airplay.

Every day, I get messages kutoka vijana who are aspiring musicians don’t have means or ways of getting into the studio kuonyesha kipaji chao due to finances au lack of connections, breakthrough or one reason or the other.

Honestly ma-message mimi hu-get ni overwhelming Prohabo simply cannot sign everyone. But I have some good news. If you have been inboxing unataka record deal, utafurahia in a few days. But catch is, YOU HAVE TO PROVE WORTHY OF MY TIME! Bado Strategy ndio jina ya hii mchezo haijawai change!

Looks like unlike a lot of radio presenter who never even look at tracks sent to them, Nonini is actually going to give an equal chance to everyone and pick the best for Pro Habo Records. Let’s wait and see. The next big thing in the industry might come out of this.

Octopizzo Starts a New Initiative to Help Artistes

Rapper and entrepreneur, Octopizzo has come up with a new initiative that is set to benefit music artistes.

“Forgotten Fridays is a monthly workshop that builds on creative tools and knowledge between music perfomance to create a strong and intuitive connection between musicians and their music or musical instruments, which in turn will encourage fluidity and ingenuity in music production, music management and overall music perfomance.

Each work will be built around a different theme to be selected by the participants that is built on peer-to-peer sharing and will end in an open mic session at the foyer; open to the artistes.”

The workshops will be facilitated by Octopizzo himself with the help of selected participants. For those interested, the next workshop will take place on the 21st of September at the Sarakasi Dome in Ngara.

Project A.C.E.

Arguably the most hyped event of the year, PROJECT A.C.E. is the “party you have only dreamed of” as it is described by its organizers.

Going down on September 1st, the event is poised to bring together 20 Deejays all performing in one mansion with multiple dance floors. There will also be a convoy drive, camping area, movie arena, and NO COPS NOR NEIGHBOURS!!

What makes the event worth looking forward to is that the venue has not been disclosed. The organizers however divulge that the ACE Mansion is 15KM from Nakumatt Ridgeways and directions will be released on the 31st of August. Revellers will join a “CONVOY DRIVE” from Nakumatt Ridgeways to the Mansion.

The charges are as follows:          Advance Normal: KSH 1,500
Gate: KSH 2,000
V.I.P: KSH 5,000 (limited)
