“Joseph Hellon Is Gay!” Says Esther Arunga

I honestly do not know what to make of these reports surfacing…

Apparently, Jazz maestro and controversial saxophone ace Joseph Hellon is gay… That’s if you believe reports being spread by Ghetto Radio. And they are quoting a press release being purpoted to have been released by Esther Arunga.

ESTHER_ARUNGA_1.jpg

I just have no idea on what to make of this wahala she dey stir up and for what? Here is the alleged press release that claims Hellon is not only a homo but a con artist, wife batterer, sodomite and *sigh* he also associates with known criminals.
“I can see lots of people are SLURPED in to Hellon’s embyonic stories just because we’re an envenomed couple, it’s your right! The man is simply seeking immersion after realizing without our presence he was an obliterated product. The chap doesn’t know he is vehemently digging his irrelevance sheol.
However, these are my questions to his foolhardy hosts in the 4th estate:
How many distinguished members are of the know that Hellon is a serious gay? His partner is a former Starehe Boys Centre student. Do you notice he “fries” his hair and femininely does his nails as he plays the feminine part.

He claims to be holding a Bachelor degree certificate in music from Cambridge university, can’t he be challenged to forward an evidence of an original transcript, evidenced UK student visa page on his passport and entry number from that varsity!! Because the British Education Board is ready to take a serious action should he forward charlatan documents. The guy has never stepped out of Africa, in fact he has only left for SA for 3 days.

Can’t he prove that he owns the title deeds, log books, and the school of music he blows trumpets of claims to? The records show the certificates and deeds are indeed owned by his father in-law? He has nothing that he can gasconade about. He is the poorest man until we arrived to FOG, he used us to fleece money for his lavish life. When we left, he got angry as he cannot live that livelihood again…by the way he only moved from Parklands to Runda when I arrived and am the person who searched for the Runda house. Anyone can ask the property’s landlord Mr Wainaina and he can be found at the former German embassy’s office building Ngong lane in Community.

ESTHER_ARUNGA.jpg

Do Kenyans know he is a wife batterer? Last time, he beat his wife until she miscarried back in 2009. He physically and sexually abused every woman @ FOG, we got evidence and clips…he stripped his wife and took pictures of her. Sent them on p**n sites for money and sex change. Why was he expelled from Agha Khan School where he was a teacher????????

We demand he stops threats of his credible of garbage book and come forward to show Kenyans a Kayole house with evidence of photos of us being together with our son….he is using his brothers as slaves and bodyguards while they’re supposed to be at school.

What about that stolen Mercedes Benz without its log book? It was stolen by Samuel Onyango Nyanjom who hasn’t produced the car’s log book till now. The vehicle is a theft product and must be investigated by Pangani Flying Squad. 110 body 126 engine that he gave to Odada. The KRA is demanding that a duty that wasn’t paid be settled and the cheeky FOG preacher continues to elude the authorities on that matter.

No music performance in Kenya can earn a jazz musician a clean Ksh 300,000, why can’t that DeBarl Inea challenge him to show Kenyans any recent receipts of secrets lounge with evidence of that kind of payment in one cheque? he shouldn’t forget my husband is a musician and we know all music performances secrets. Media biased arenas continue to give him airtime to preach his hollow tunnels propaganda. Can’t he show Kenyans a single bank statement chequed directly from the Secrets Lounge Club with a tag of Ksh 300,000? He performs music and church services in his residential rented house against the NCC rules. Pictures and clips are available.

He misleads people he owns a home in Kitisuru, can’t he be challenged to show an evidence of a Kitisuru Residents Association Landlord’s title deed with his names? Is he enslaving his brothers instead of taking them to school? Some of them don’t even have any secondary school education and he promised their parents in the rural areas that he could educate them.

He told Kenyans that my loving husband tipped my foods with drugs, that’s a serious offense. We got evidence Prof W of Agha Khan University hospital that shows I was healthier and had no chemicals running in my blood mainstream that could jeopardize my parturition before I flew abroad. He tipped our teas with some funny sex orgies stuff to perform nudity festivals to the moon at night where a Kenyan flag was burnt to enable a leading politician win elections. My husband warned me of this guy and we abandoned the group.

In fact, the main reason we parted ways was that he brought in a pastoral dream term called “gout and glutter” whereby church members’ spouses could be exchanged for sex as the lord would descend and bring wealth and fertility. He had this rule that if you proposed to be married or marry, as a pastor he was to “test” and taste” the woman first and check whether they were cervical cancer-ed patients or not. He misled me to sue my parents while I was at Dr Njenga’s 37 Muthangari road and even asked my husband to kill them, let him come out and deny the claims. We got witnesses who are ready to testify in court. When my husband ejected all these requests and asked me to withdraw the case, his instant hate for husband commenced from that point.

He spreads lies about CNN’s Larry King and etc, while every Kenyan knows that when he was obsessed with media interviews at his Runda compound making such announcements, my husband was incarcerated at Industrial Area. Check the Youtube recordings and dates. This is when he made such announcements. My husband wasn’t allowed to talk to us in jail or even use a phone according to the law.

We got more in store….coming up!!! (including how the baby died in his wife’s womb after a thorough beating)….hospital records are there unless he compromises them. Has he ever compromised the CID to apprehend us after supplying them with some……that is next!!!!?”

Cartel’s video ALLEGEDLY worth 2 million finally released

Just a few months ago, Cartel and the Katenga crew were working on a teenage girl’s music record of eight songs, which allegedly came down to a budget of about Sh. 10 Million. This was the debut record for this young singer, who until now has not yet been revealed to the public.

Enough of that, point is, according to these guys, they are not afraid to spend some mad cash. ‘True Jang’os’ they call themselves and they make it as clear as day in Cartel’s latest video, ‘Dady Dady’.

Don’t let the title of the song fool you though, it’s non of that inappropriate stuff. The song actually talks about under age drinking and just how spoilt and messed up youngins are these days. After taking a few shots of tequila with a hot mama, getting cosy and touchy-feely, dude finally decides to ‘getty getty’, only to discover that the lass is 21 years old, in an over 25 club. Cliche Hilarious story, especially since it’s narrated in the Jang’o accent.

Cartel confirmed to us that the video was shot in three different locations; Cairo, Dubai and Khartoum. Check out the behind the scenes photos right here.

The video took more than six months to be completed and at the end of it all, they claim that had spent slightly over KSh. 2 Million (inclusive of transport, accommodation and production).

Enough said! Wanna know if it was KSh. 2M well spent? Watch the video below.

It’s never been simpler to promote your peace video and win Sh. 50, 000

The election period is approaching fast and judging by the cruel incidents unfolding in Tana, we didn’t learn a thing from the PEV in 2008. Sad story really, but you can now take matters into your own hands. You might just be able to pull a few people or more into peace.

U Film It have taken the initiative of creating a peace campaign that is structured to make the citizens take full part in its activities aiming towards peaceful times, hoping to curb the violence that is currently brewing and that that may be approaching, if not taken care of. The campaign is called ‘KEEP THE PEACE’ and intends to spread the peace message all over Kenya, using its citizens conjoined efforts.

To participate in this campaign, all you have to do is create a video of you talking about peace, its importance and what it means to you. Do not hold back at all. let it all out, put your soul and passion for peace in it. How else are you going to convince the rest of the citizens that violence will only take us some few years back? This video can be shot by any device of your choice and at your exposure. It could be a mobile phone, laptop, camcorder, anything at your disposal. Make sure the video does not go for more than three minutes.

Once you have created the short video, upload the video clip to the U Film It video contest site www.ufilmit.co.ke and invite your friends and the world to watch the video, share it and leave comments. The most inspirational peace messages will be awarded cash prizes with the winner bagging Sh. 50,000. Other cash prizes are Sh. 25,000 and Sh. 15,000 for 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

You must however, be a registered member of U Film It or have a Twitter account to upload or submit a video.

Let’s join in and spread the love for peace. Sitting at home and praying all day without taking even a little bit of action will not help much. Be a part of this and contribute to your country, and make some cash while at it.

Get all these and more in the video below.

The Secret behind Octopizzo’s Success

By now you should have known that Kibera’s finest Octopizzo is not in Illuminati and so his success cannot be attributed to the occult society. Well, Octo purely draws his inspiration purely from his fans and that’s what has kept him rising and rising.

Speaking to Willy Tuva on Mambo Mseto yesterday, Octo revealed that he had vowed to himself that he would leave rap music to pursue other goals if his music would not be big, but, your guess is as good as mine because the hustle gave in and look at him now.

Octopizzo attributes his success to God and rubbishes claims that he is Illuminati. “Illuminati haiezi andikia ma artiste lyrics, ni bidii yako inadetermine your rise to fame,” said Octopizzo. As a parting shot, Octo had this to say, “Kueni waoga ju am unpredictable! Mi si ka weather. More is yet to come.”

Check Out Rabbit’s Mesmerizing Live Performance of Swahili Shakespeare

Rabbit a.k.a Kaka Sungura’s Swahili Shakespeare is one of his most popular tracks this year. And finally, we can get to see his first live performance on TV.

The rapper may not be as mainstream like a lot of his compatriots with the same experience, but the rapper sure is respected. Maybe it’s because he relies on his music to speak for him instead of scandalous sideshows.

Who would’ve thought that the mellow Swahili Shakespeare that we have a hard time thumbing down as a song or poem would sound even better live. The rapper appeared on 99 Degrees and performed it on the show. And it was beautiful. Don’t worry, these four minutes will wind down fast. Check it out below.

Kenya Tries to Woo Tourists with Music

The Kenyan government’s next weapon in promoting tourism: music. The Kenya Tourism Board has facilitated a musical that will be staged abroad in the hopes that it will spur the audiences to flock the country to experience local culture.

Out of Africa: The Magic of Kenya will hold its premiere at the Stadstheater Zoetermeer in Netherlands on the 28th of September. The play features a full Kenyan cast who are charged with marketing the country’s cultural heritage through music and dance.

Out of Africa is produced by Peter Ultee Productions which began preparations earlier this year for the show that will play 70 times across Europe. After Netherlands, the play will then travel to Belgium, Denmark and Luxemburg over a three-month period.

Kenya’s Sex Tourism Film Aired at Toronto International Film Festival

The contentitous Kenyan film by a similarly controversial producer Ulrich Seidl which highlights sex tourism at the Coast, Paradise: Love, premiered at the onset of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last weekend.

tiffToronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is extensively regarded as one of the world’s top film festivals. They brag of being the launching pad for the best of international, Hollywood and Canadian cinema, and is recognized as the most important film festival after Cannes.

The film is part of what will be a three-part prologue, digs into the life of an Austrian woman who goes on vacation to the Kenyan coast in search of holiday and wParadise-Lovehile at it meets a beach boy. The producer however does not escape criticism as a section of TIFF observers saying “Seidl’s repeated scenes of young Kenyan men trying to play up to middle-aged German women’s grotesque racist fantasies (which) makes an unpleasant point ad nauseam.”

Despite all the fuss surrounding the film, it has in the past done well bagging an award at the Cannes Film Festival earlier on in the year.

Octopizzo Explains Why He Mentions Lucifer in His Video

So much has been said about Octopizzo’s new song Ivo Ivo Ivo. However, most of the talk revolved around the use of the words Lucifer and Illuminati in the song. Well, Octo, as he is popularly known, was on Citizen Radio’s Mambo Mseto this afternoon where he explained to Willy M. Tuva.

Answering to why he mentions Lucifer in his video, Octo says he loves attention and by mentioning Lucifer he would get very much of the same. “Lucifer ni punchline tu yani inafanya msee askize lyrics zako kabisa,” said Octopizzo.

Told about a section of the public that criticizes him for using the words IVO IVO IVO instead of HIVYO HIVYO HIVYO to actually represent EVIL EVIL EVIL, Octo laughed this off saying he uses the words IVO and EVIL interchangeably in his song as in; Naspit EVIL like Lucifer (loo si far), IVO IVO IVO to mean two distinct things. “Lucifer spits evil things”, he said “Na Lucifer akiona ye ndo ish ntamtupa kwa choo ju loo si far”.

Here is an excerpt of the interview;

Willy M. Tuva: Do you believe in Illuminati?
Octopizzo: Illuminati ni conspiracy tu. Musicians utumia Illuminati ndo wakue relevant. Illuminati ni kama zile majini za coasto ati madame ugeuka makondoo usiku.
Willy M. Tuva: Then what is with the pyramids in your song?
Octopizzo: (laughs out) Me siamini Illuminati. Kwanza izo ni triangles si pyramids! Ni kama zile traffic signs. Kama izo ni pyramids then kila mtu anauza samosa ni Illuminati.

Well guys, there you have it. It’s time the debate ended.

Such is this new video that is just about to be launched, titled ‘Dady Dady’ by Cartel. The video features his right hand man, Alfayo and has been shot at locations including Dubai, Cairo and Khartoum.

Here are the behind the scenes photos of the video that took a whole six months to be completed.

Chiwawa Urges Road Safety On the Anniversary of Fellow Singer’s Death

Most might not know that Chiwawa’s comeback track, Imejipa, was recorded more than a year ago. Also, that the girl he features on the song died a year ago today.

Faith Nancy a.k.a Sweetie was killed in a road accident along Langata Road as she was on her way home in Karen. Besides rapping, she was also an actress.

She had close ties to people in the music industry like Sniper of G`Ganji Records, Andru Gathuku who did Revolution Time with Chiwawa & Hiphop`s first Lady Nazizi.

Her sister appears on the video in her place. On Chiwawa’s upcoming video for Imejipa, her photo appears at the beginning of the track. You can check out the trailer here.

On the anniversary of her death, Chiwawa would like to urge everyone to drive safely, drive sober and ensure that you are always wearing a seatbelt.

Spotted: Prezzo and AY at JKIA

There has been a lot of talk about AY moving to Nairobi, changing base to Nairobi, and what not. Well AY and El Presidente have never made secret their close friendship. Having collaborated on many songs together these two are known as ‘true friends’ in the industry. (Remember Prezzo even bigging up AY in the Upville BBAStargame house? And always singing along when his songs came on?)

prezzo and ay

Well these two fast friends were spotted catching a drink at the bar at international departures at JKIA.

Headed somewhere together? Maybe Prezzo is helping AY pack up his things to move here? Maybe Prezzo was going with AY to introduce him to Goldie. Maybe they were both going somewhere to record a new single. Maybe Prezzo was taking AY with him on his official ONE ambassador duties. What do you think they were up to?

Another fool gets busted in the most hilarious way by Ciku Muiruri

Ciku Muiruri has once again managed to orchestrate an extremely entertaining bust on another cheater on her show, ‘Busted’ on Classic 105 radio.

Ever since Ciku has been let loose on the Kenyan players, concerned individuals have been on alert of set-up calls that usually end up with someone being thrown out of their own home. That is precisely what this Kenyan dude probably got after his Nigerian girlfriend discovered that he has been cheating on her with random girls at clubs in Westlands. Hell hath no fury like a Nigerian woman scorned.

Guys, if you really have to be a player, at-least watch out for weird phone calls like these. It’s that simple. Have a listen at this dummy getting busted.

Photo Gallery: Cheese and Wine Festival 2012

All the Things That Could Go Wrong On Your Birthday: Phoenix Stages Another Thrilling Play

Between the 14th and 29th of September, theatre fans will be treated to a thrilling play at the Professional Centre on Parliament Road staged by Phoenix players.

George Mungai directs the Marc Camaletti written play which stars Jack Gitonga, Maggy Karanja, Maina Olwenya (Nairobi Half Life), Shiviske Shivisi and Lizz Njagah.

Synopsis: “Bernard has foolishly asked his mistress, Brigit, to his home on her birthday despite the fact his wife Jacqueline is present. He has also invited his oldest friend, Robert and asks him to pretend Brigit is his mistress.

Robert refuses as he is having an affair with Jacqueline, but Bernard cunningly involves him anyway. By chance, a temporary maid engaged for the evening arrives when Jacqueline and Bernard are out and her name is also Brigit.

Robert mistakes her for Bernard’s girlfriend. Frantic complications in which identities, plots and counter plots and bedrooms are exchanged with ever increasing confusion transpire until an unexpected ending makes everyone happy including the maid who has acquired a mink coat and lots of money.”

Entrance to the show is Kshs. 650 for adults and Kshs. 400 for students. The play is sponsored by Nick Creations, NTV and Capital FM.

Exclusive: Camp Mulla’s ‘Feel No Pain’ video

After much anticipation, the ‘Feel No Pain’ video has finally been released. Thing is, this video was supposed to be released a year back, but was put on hold for undisclosed reasons. All that doesn’t matter any more because it is finally here and it is definitely worth the wait.

This video, like every other they’ve done so far, is spectacular –seems to be very Kesha-inspired. The hazy-almost-hangover-induced feel of the camera shots, the hard-partying theme, the venues -not forgetting the beautiful lasses and hot cars-, down to the well known lyrics: this song, though not new, is about to become a hit all over again.

Sidenote: Shappaman is still still sporting his dreadlocks -back when they were baby locks- in this video, so you know it’s old school.

Check out the ‘Feel No Pain’ video below.

**Check out for cameos from Nick Mutuma, Ian Mugoya and Bryan ‘Vazzi’ in end flash-shots of the video.

Check Out What Pastor Kathy Kiuna is Also Good At…

It is without a doubt the Kiunas of Jubilee Christian Centre are top of their game in spreading the Gospel and now it emerges the duo also have a singing prowess. After releasing Mapambo in May, Reverend Kathy Kiuna has yet again done another groovy praise song.

Arise is a song that encourages Christians by urging them to get up and shine for their time has come. It draws from the Biblical story; The Healing at the Pool, where Jesus told a disabled man to get up, pick his mat and walk. Complete with a Naija feel, the song is projected to be the next major thing on the lips of Gospel music fans.

Prezzo, one of the most missed BBA housemates. Who would think otherwise?

The entertainment that Prezzo delivered to the Big Brother Stargame viewers was unmatched. What with all the drunken drama, romance with Goldie, fights, you name it.

Prezzo was all over that house and his presence was felt like DKB’s hand on Zainab’s face.
He was there to make a mark and have fun. No strategy at all and he maintained it to the very last day. This is probably why most of this season’s BBA fans miss Prezzo a whole lot more than they miss the rest of the stargame housemates. Well, he and Keagan. To be fare, according to the Big Brother Stargame website comments, the fans miss Keagan and Prezzo the most, but we all know who offered better entertainment, yeah? I’m just saying.

That is how we Kenyan reperesentatives do at any event or contest. Go H.A.M. Leaving them yearning for more. Yes sir!

Now that Tacos is closed, which will be the next ‘official’ gay bar?

Now that Club Tacos has come to a close down and all, I can’t help but wonder, what next? When Tacos was still open, the LGBT community could walk into this club knowing full well that this was a comfort zone of expression for them.

Tacos club is now under full make-over. From the entrance, down to the washrooms. Plans of transforming it into a state of the art sport bar are underway. Now lets be honest, because of the unfriendly environment to the LGBT community in some bars, the chances of you witnessing a gay moment were like 1/10. And it’s just hit me that the chances of now coming across these gay moments in clubs all over the city have just increased by 9.

Well, just a quick notice to any homophobic/borderline-homophobic people out there -all the way from those who are seriously disturbed to those who are made slightly uncomfortable with same sex hook-ups- you are about to have it rough. You do know that there will eventually be a replacement for Tacos, right? And it just might be your favorite spot.

Just to be clear, at Ghafla! we do NOT support discrimination of any sort. But we get it, it will definitely take some getting used to for many of you to see open PDA between our Kenyan LGBT community. In the meantime, -as we wait for everyone to take a chill pill-, where do you think the next ‘hotspot’ is going to be? Club Betty’s? Some say that Club Envy already took over a while back, while others claim Red & Black in Westlands is on top of that?

Hmmm… so what do you think, which club is taking over the ‘official gay bar’ title?

What is this Obsession of True Blood Actresses with Kenya?

Barely a month after True Blood actress Kristin Bauer Van Straten -plays the vampire Pamela Swynford de Beaufort on True Blood- was reported to be the in country to shoot a documentary and was spotted later at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, another actress of the vampire TV series has set up a fundraiser for a project in Kenya.

sookieThe smoking hot Anna Helene Paquin -who plays Sookie Stackhouse in the hit TV series- has pledged her support to the project by handing over her on screen costumes; –a signed bra- for sale on auction website eBay.com to raise money for the Kenyan project. This prominent lady on our TV screeens donated the bra to co-star Kristin Bauer van Straten in support of her ongoing fundraiser to finance the documentary Out for Africa.

Out for Africa is a film is about human-wildlife conflict and the problems caused by poaching of elephant and rhinos. Kristin and her husband Abri van Straten are currently shooting in various parts of the country.

In a post on her Twitter handle, Bauer van Straten writes, “Sookie’s bra can be yours! Signed by Anna Paquin up for auction now in support of Kristin Bauer’s Out for Africa docu (sic).”

2 days left in auction of Sookie’s bra signed by Anna Paquin, place your bid to save the elephants & rhino…

Lots of True Blood memorabilia is on offer in this noble auction to save elephants and rhinos from poaching. Sounds like a great cause. We as Kenyans definitely need to be more aware of various humanitarian causes close to home. Sometimes it takes offering TVs hottest vampire’s signed bra in an auction to get you to contribute to the stopping of poaching of elephants and rhinos. I’d definitely like to support this cause….

Spotted: Ringtone and Tuface Idibia

So by now we all know about Tuface’s private intimate concert in the country a few weeks back that was sponsored by Airtel. But then we stumbled across this picture.

We know Ringtone is a gospel artiste. And Tuface is not. Ringtone is a locally acclaimed/celebrated artist, Tuface is internationally known, more famed for his crossover appeal to many various countries across the continent. A meeting of two different -but individually accomplished- artists? Or maybe the case of a star-struck fan celebrity?

FASHION POLICE: Tusker Lite Experience

The Tusker Lite Experience that went down this weekend was the place to be for all Johnny Gill fans. Curious to know what Kenyans showed up in. Well here goes your favourite frock cop:

ALL WHITE EVERYTHING

Johnny Gill showed up in the latest colour trend: Brilliant white. This monochrome look was done to perfection. His white ensemble, with tuxedo pants(silver stripe down the side) accessorized with platinum accesories and off white shoes was simply delicious.

THE T-RUTH

There’s something about Ruth. And I LIKE IT. She is giving me that India Arie circa Video feel. Loved the make up, the simple white vest offset with the tailored white and print wrap skirt. Peep the on trend one-sided drop feather earring and the simple make up with bright red lip. The 6-inch pump is a fabulous closet staple, and I can see how the intention was to add the right pizazz to the outfit. However, a strappy 6-incher would have done much better than the pump.

DJ HIPSTERSTYLEZ

Hmmmm, save for the brown loafers, how about this look on Allan? The tangerine pants matched with the tangerine bowtie. The fitted grey suit jacket to add some class to a casual outfit. The oversized glasses. The fedora. This man wears hipster well. The leather loafers are a bit uniform-reminiscent and mismatched to the casual feel of this outfit. A pair of white-bucks or a saddle shoe would have served better.

SUIT DOWN!!!

Gotta start on a HUGE plus points for the colour. Striking, daring and a lovely unexpected blue. I love a good suit (nothing says class quite like it), but I am on a boycott until I start seeing some well fitted suits out here. This would have looked great with a black shirt, no pocket square, jacket button undone, and I cant stress enough, the proper fit.

DENIM ON DENIM

Maina Kageni (R)didn’t want to commit to being TOO trendy so picked a shirt with denim accents instead of full denim on denim. Funny thing with this trend though, the more matchy-matchy your two denim separates are, the better it looks. The wash of his denim pants doesn’t compliment the shirt, but I give this look a 7.5/10 for how young and trendy it makes him look.

ITS LIKE THAT

Blinky Bill is working this throwback fashion ode to our favourite rap group from the 80s. From the hat, to the glasses, to the leather jacket to the tee, to the unlaced adidas shoes (not visible in picture) all this is missing is a twisty oversized gold chain and I might as well be looking at DMC himself. Street b-boy style is definitely done like this.

JUST A JUXTAPOSED JACKET

Thumbs up. These two rocking staples in style. The leather jacket and the bright ankara jacket. I dont even care whats on the bottom, this proves that a good staple goes a long way. Take note: invest in some.

BLACK MAGIC

Stylish. The black belted coat, worn over an lbd, sheer black stockings and a knee high ash-grey high-heeled boot. Only accesories: bold sparkly oversized studs. And her date: Black shirt, dark wash jeans. These two have a reason to be smiling: they know how good they look together.

WILD ONES

These two ladies are rocking their fierce animal prints with confidence. And they got it just right. Always stick to minimal animal print, throw it in as a silky top, or a luxurious scarf, or a funky bag. Animal prints give a fun, bold and classy tone to an outfit when used as a statement. (Less is more to avoid looking tacky.)

LBD-LITTLE BLUE DRESS

The v-shaped ruffles in the front accentuate the bust area. The length shows of her lovely pins without being indecent. The sheer tights could have been done without (but she probably wanted to give herself some semblance of covering up/personal comfort). The pink clutch adds a great pop of colour-blocking fabulousness.

TOO MUCH OF SOMETHING

Okay, okay okay. Ring the alarm, I’m getting the sudden urge to rant. Why was nearly everyone in the VIP in this wash of jean. I get it: jeans are a go-to item in your closet. But enough is enough. Seriously, there’s too many options out there, WHAT IS IT WITH THE DENIM? Im calling everyone out on this. Standard blue one colour wash denim: MAKE IT STOP

MY CLIQUE

Ever seen that stylish group of friends all looking effortlessly good? This is them. (R) Blue maxi dress, skin tone heels and that fresh faced dewy makeup is so divine. (M/R) Round neck off-white jersey with denim skinnies, Poetic-justice-type braids and bold red lip. (Honorary award: Best dressed of the night.) (M/L) Coral jacket (sidenote: On trend is colour blocking  coral/orange with pink) white tee and big hoop earrings. This group of ladies is chic. Not a bad word to say here.

ONE NO DIRECTION

Not too sure what the overall look here was meant to be. Lycra/spandex tops for both (and -L- *gasp*, spandex pants too!), Black military inspired jacket with gold details, boring blue jeans, silver chandelier earrings, beaded necklace…. I just don’t get it. These are definitely not thought out ensembles but rather just a hodgepodge of clothing. Just clothing.

PLAYED-OUT PLAID

*sigh* DJ Pinye… This look is overdone, and I am over and done with it. Plaid roll up tee, dark wash denim, dark coloured sneaks. Challenge to all men out there: How long can you go without resorting to this outfit in your wardrobe?

What do you think of the fashion in the VIP-area during Tusker Lite Experience?

Tacos, Kenya’s Leading Gay Bar Is Shut Down

One of the oldest night clubs in Nairobi, Tacos, closed its doors on Sunday. Many of its ardent patrons were dumbfounded and forced to change their raving destinations.

Once ranked #131 of 162 things to do in Nairobi by Lonely Planet travellers, Tacos was the deal during its hay days. The club has been around for over a decade is located along Kimathi Street in the city centre and was known as the “unofficial gay bar” in Nairobi.

Scuttlebutt has it that it has been bought out by foreign investors who are interested into turning it into a state of the art sports bar. This means it will remain closed for some time.

Be sure to keep it Ghafla! to keep you in the loop when it re-opens.

Caroline Mutoko busted in plagiarism scandal

We told you @RobertAlai was one of the most influential Kenyans on twitter. Well guess what his keen eye discovered earlier today.

robert alai discovers plagiarism

Caroline Mutoko’s popular column “Mutoko on Monday” is her forum to write a weekly piece on whichever topic she chooses. Last Monday, (3rd September 2012) Caroline wrote a letter to her 20-year-old self. All this seemed to have been inspired by the recent “Campus Divas For Rich Men” facebook scandal. Read the Nairobi Star article here.

(UPDATE: The Nairobi Star deleted Caroline’s article, but read the cached copy here.)

Well, in reading the article a few commenters noted that it was plagiarised. So, today, it was broadcast by one Robert Alai, that said ‘inspiring letter to my 20-year-old self” was actually lifted word for word off another article published late last year (17th October 2011) on a blog going by “The Crunk Feminist Collection”. He provided the link to the original article on his twitter page. Read the article here.

Wow. Compare and contrast. Seems to me that Caroline’s ‘heartfelt letter’ was ACTUALLY copied word for word from the other blog. Coincidence or plagiarism?

As of half an hour ago this morning (11th September 2012) the hashtags #CarolineMutoko and #MutokoMonday were frequently appearing on KOTs timelines. Some KOTs seem outraged, others fairly tickled by the blatant plagiarism in this article. Sample some of the tweets/retweets:

Miss  plagiarizes an article. Is she not the one who told that we should not be ‘AVERAGE?’

Let he who has never copy pasted cast the first stone  vs

must have made some egotistical assumptions re the stupidity of her readership.  cc:

The Internet never forgets.

Hehe “ i will  your assignment?!»

Wow. This is quite embarrassing for a mentor of Caroline Mutoko’s calibre. All she had to do was quote a source. *sigh* Lets watch and see if this escalates into full on tweef, or if it just fades away into anonymity.

It’s Official, “Watu” Know How To Party Better Than The Elite!

Between snob parties and “watu” parties which ones rock more?

Come on, seeing as curiosity is something normal to man, we’ve always wanted to see just how the other side parties.

But have you ever wondered just who has more fun? Well, Nali got to hit the exclusive launch of Velvet Lounge which was just a bourgeois affair if you ask me and I was comparing it to the just released promo clip of Skyluxx Relaunch party which to be real was a “watu” event.

And from the pics of the goings on at the exclusive launch of Velvet Club, to me, it looked like the uppity stuffity know nothing about partying. It looks like it was a dress down cocktail, and everyone knows cocktails SUCK.

On the other hand, the Skyluxx crowd looked hype! They were having a good time and the music was killing it! Still sucks though that they charge somewhere in the regions of 10 ngwa proper sidi pepe for a proper bottle to sip on… With no proper service… straight mumu this one!

According to me Clearly, if you want to party, “watu” have it! If you need to let loose, have a good time and kick it, go to a “watu” club. But if your idea of going out is to network and hobnob with the uppitties and the Upper Eastside crowd, go to a bland bourgeois party.

Check out the video of the Skylux Relaunch here:
