Comedy Club is the Fastest Rising Comedy Show in the Country

According to research, Comedy Club is the fastest rising TV show. Only two months after the show’s premiere, it is already the 8th most popular comedy show on Kenyan TV.

Comedy Club has risen over other more established longer running shows like Churchill Live, XYZ Show, Vioja Mahakamani, Vitimbi and Pasua, which has higher reach since it’s on a national broadcaster. Comedy Club was only beaten by Papa Shirandula, Machachari, Tahidi High, Beba Beba, Mother-In-Law, Inspekta Mwala and Naswa.

Over its two month run, the show has featured high profile artistes like Likobe, Karu Manzira, BBA’s Malonza and Sherry of Changing Times among others. The show has also had musical guests including Suzanna Owiyo, Wendy Kimani, Anto Neosoul and Rabbit amongst others. The show promises even bigger artistes to come.

Check out Ukoo Flani’s P.O.P’s ‘Mambo Vipi’ video

I can’t get enough of this video. The song is titled ‘mambo vipi’ and that is all it is about, ‘salamu’. The beginning of the video always gets me smiling when the white guy attempts to say ‘habari gani’ with a funny expression on his face.

Shot straight from the hood, with all the boys from around there, this video does not need a choreography. As fresh and straight forward as it gets, is how it has been presented.

Hard just like all Ukoo Flani tracks, P.O.P really did a good one on this.
Check out the video below.

Caroline Mutoko Has a New “Baby” (Photo)

She gets what she wants when she wants it; that’s the nature of Kiss 100’s radio queen Caroline Mutoko. Recently, she was involved in an incident that prompted her to act in a manner that most of you may judge as an act of show off but that least matters to Caroline.

Last Friday she posted on her Facebook page her experience with a lady owner of the new Range Rover Evoque that recently hit the Kenyan market. Here is what happened;

“So there I was doing my rounds before heading home – when on Peponi Road I see a Range Rover Evoque. I chased it, flashed my lights and eventually when the driver pulled to the side of the road and rolled her (yes, HER) window down – I was stupidly tongue tied and only managed to say, “I love your car”. She laughed for almost a minute, then said ‘You should get one’ and drove off.”

Following this incidence, Caroline headed to CMC Motors on Tuesday afternoon, where she got a dry run of the stunning Evoque and even got a test drive. “This is not just anybody’s car, it is a milestone car,” Caroline told Word Is, “It is the females car. Victoria Beckham designed the interior. They chose a woman who understands women. It even has a feature for setting the mood.”caroline mutoko2

Talk of being a woman of substance.

Octopizzo Beaten by Nonini

Step aside Octo, Nonini is here. I can now confirm that Nonini is the top musician in the country right now if the Kisima Awards nominations are anything to go by. Out of the 12 spots of Kisima Awards, the genge Godfather was nominated in four categories.

Having been nominated for Music Video of the Year (Colour Kwa Face), Hip Hop Artiste of the Year (Colour Kwa Face), Urban Artiste of the Year (Hahe RMX ft. Just A Band) and The Artiste of the Year categories, Nonini tops the list of artistes with most nominations.

Compared to Octopizzo and Camp Mulla who have two spots each, Nonini stands a better chance to clinch the artiste of the year award and consequently the ultimate prize (2 million bob). Nonini enthusiastic after learning about the nominations and took to his Facebook page to express gratitude to his fans.

“I am delighted to learn that Prohabo’s efforts have been recognized by KISIMA AWARDS. Nashukuru sana Wagenge True Sabu ya Nomination nimepata leo… Glad that hii ngoma ya ku create awareness for Persons Living with Albinism is finally being recognised! Its Time To Celebrate Our Differences…. Shukran Sana Wagenge True…HUMBLED!” read the post.

Check out Collo’s new ride: Mercedes Benz S320 (Photos)

Sometimes it really scares me just to see how long it actually takes for Kenyan artistes’ hard work to start paying off. Artistes who have been in this industry for more than ten years are starting to taste the fruits of their labours right now. Some have only taken around six years, but still, that’s a very long time. It all comes down to determination. This industry is not for the weak and faint hearted.

Collo has been one of the most consistent Kenyan rappers ever since Kleptomaniax. Even after the group separated for individual projects, Collo was still on his grind, dishing out singles and collaborations time after time.

All that hard work and persistence is starting to show. He recently launched his first solo album and now, he has just acquired a new ride that brings out his gentleman side, his elegance and style. Check out photos of his new Mercedes Benz S320 that we got from sources.

Finally, a group to match up to CampMulla’s standards

Camp Mulla have for a very long time stayed on top with their unique flow and swag, that has made it possible to extend their fan base worldwide, These guys started off from YouTube videos and now they are arguably the most popular, youngest music group from Kenya.

Now, a new group steps on to the podium. They go by the name, Large Gang. They have not caused much ripples yet, probably because they have not been well discovered by the media and fans so much, but all that is about to change.

After sampling some of their music and having loved each and every one of them, Ghafla! is all over these guys. The music is well produced and mastered to international standards and their videos are up to the time too.

I have a feeling… no, I actually assure you that this is the next group to make Kenya proud. These guys are the next big thing in music to come from Kenya.

Doubtfull about it? Just take a look at this trailer below titled ‘La La La La’. I’m sure you’ll get on board.

Nairobi vs NaxVegas, Who Parties Harder?

Uncle Chim Tuna had the privilege of being hosted by one of Kenya’s biggest towns and what is considered one of the rave capitals of Kenya -Nakuru. What were you up to?

I got to find out why it has been dubbed NaxVegas… Kenya’s 2nd SinCity. I was at the King of Bold concert that was held in NaxVegas and i have to say i was impressed at how the Nax locals party. I take my hats off and salute everyone that came out for this one!

But i noticed that raving in NaxVegas is alot different from raving in Nairobi. It got me thinking about to just what degree the two rave capitals differ. Here’s what uncle Chim Tuna thinks.

<try to spot the lass>

3.jpg

#1. Women, lasses, ladies

NaxVegas has far less females out at night. Why? And why do you come out with your boyfriends? I was in the crowding trying to make eye contact with some lasses but in each instance the lad would make his presence felt either by physically the lass away or glaring at me. And ladies, ladies, ladies! Thou Shalt Not Wear Jeans To The Club!

Pilsner_Crowd.jpg

In Nairobi, women MAKE the night! Nairobi’s lasses are usually out en mass and these days they dress to the nines. And they usually come out alone and those actually are single are atleast flirt with idea of hooking up… They are however still a waste of a lads efforts.

Score: 1 for Nairobi, nil for NaxVegas

#2. No Fighting In NaxVegas

In NaxVegas, i was impressed to see that the lads didn’t engage in Cro Magnon displays of machismo. There were no fights. Guys kept to their own and did their own thing. That was awesome actually! I was really impressed.

In Nairobi, some events are a mainstay for wannabe UFC Title Contenders. Nairobi lads are usually as calm and composed as monkeys performing a mating dance! Nairobi lads actually go out looking for fights. Bleurgh!

Score: 1 for NaxVegas, nothing but a big obese sero for Nairobi lads.

SECURITY.jpg

#3. Security

Security at this event was uber tight and while it wasn’t friendly, it was not hostile. These guys were unbelievably huge and they made patting us down a simple business transaction. No love lost here.

Security in Nairobi is usually appalling. In most clubs save for Brew Bistro, Mercury ABC Place and Volar, the security is usually hostile and down right aggressive. And the patting down is usually another excuse for inappropriate touching. And the bouncers in most clubs such as Club Betty’s would love an excuse to pummel you to a bloody pulp.

Score: This one i begrudgingly give to NaxVegas 1-nil!

e2ac308650e9eb88d720f3a51eea7fa5_M.jpg

#4. Drinking

NaxVegas lads and lasses don’t overindulge in average. There were few drunken louts.

Nairobi. Cheers to the freakin’ weekend and all that! You good people of Nairobi know why alcohol was given us by the gods! In Nairobi, beer is for the drinking and you’d better not waste! My cousins are actually afraid of drinking in Kenya with the Nairobi lot!

Score: Nairobi 1, NaxVegas nil

deejay_cat.jpg

#5 Music

NaxVegas is crazy about it’s ragga and dancehall. Bleurgh! Nuff sed!

Nairobi has everything from some local infusion to electro to hiphop to dancehall.

Score: Nairobi 1, NaxVegas nil

#6 Fun-o- Meter

Flat out, NaxVegas kills Nairobi in this regard! Nax slays Nairobi dead! NaxVegas is fun with a capital F! Could it be the fact that NaxVegas is hidden or could it be that NaxVegas is removed from watching eyes? I know not! All i know is that NaxVegas is a madness!

Nairobi… *sigh* most nights it’s the same old same old.

Score: For this one, NaxVegas 2, Nairobi nil.

12th October 2012: Ten things you should know this morning

Waddup guys!!! The weekend is here. But before you can put on your dancing shoes, here is top of the morning;

#1 Check out how wardrobe malfunction leaves Marya exposed.

#2 Meet Miss Karun’s sister, Marun.

#3 Take a look at how Marya and Avril make football look sexy.

#4 Miss Karun is officially taken, sorry guys. Check out this video.

#5 Here is Uncle Chim Tuna’s Open Letter responding to Jamaica’s RDX for dissing Kenyans.

#6 Juliani’s “4 by 6” theatrical video is finally out. Take a look.

#7 Octopizzo launches scratch cards for his music. How genius!

#8 Meet Kenya’s hottest new artiste.

#9 Shaffie Weru set to emcee the annual celebration of beer.

#10 Calif Records’ Ala-C rubbishes rape claims.

Now you know. Have a great weekend ahead and of course keep it Ghafla! for more entertaining news.

Sorry Guys, Miss Karun Is Officially Taken (VIDEO)

If you have been harboring fantasies of getting down with Miss Karun, then it’s time for you to FORGET THAT ONE!

My boy Phiny, a cast member of the online TV show 10 Minute Fix, flew in from the US, and top of his agenda was to get an interview with Camp Mulla on the day they released their debut album Funky Town(that was the same day as Safaricom Sevens by the way).

ANYWAY, so Phiny did interviews one by one with the Camp Mulla members, and when it came to Karun’s turn, of course he jumped STRAIGHT into the relationship question:

Phiny: This is what I came for tonight(points at Karun), Miss Karun

Karun: How you doing

Phiny: I’m good. Look at her(spins Karun around, steals a glance at her booty). Tell us about your new album coming out tonight, about to hit the stage

Karun: FUNKY TOWN! When it’s Friday now they’re saying TGIFunky.

Phiny: Sing for them a little bit. You’ve got a lovely voice.

(Karun bursts out into song for a bit)

Phiny: Tell us about yourself. Are you single or what?

Karun: Right now, not really.

Phiny: (pointing at camera) Yeah, she told you first. I didn’t want to tell you and spoil everything, so that’s it right there.

Karun: Aww, it was supposed to be a surprise, now everybody knows!

And the collective sound of Kenyan men sighing could be heard all through the night.

I’ve attached video evidence below as proof, for those who want to watch for themselves.

Kenyan Artistes Now Focus On Somali Women Refugees

Kenyan artistes are dynamic individuals. Not only do they focus entirely on developing their music careers but most recently, they have come to be recognized as philanthropic individuals.

Fresh from donating their ringback tones proceeds to IDPs, the artistes are now focusing on enhancing the lives of refugee Somali women and their children at the Daadab Camp. Named Dadaab’s Gabhar (women of Dadaab), the artistes will be aiming to raise 2 million shillings intended to fund vocational training institutions in Dadaab for refugees. The charity will involve over 20 artists and will be held on Sunday the 14th at the Brookhouse School.

The vocational training will see the women acquire self-reliance skills as they currently lack none considering they have spent almost all their lives in a war-torn country and a refugee camp. Tickets for the event cost 1000/- for adults and 700/- for students while those for VIP will be 3000/-.

It seems the award winning artiste is not about to let his fans forget about him nor to stop spreading the Gospel as he released a new video (Kofii Yoo) not so long ago DK2in June featuring the youthful Master Piece and Cabassa.

Currently working under System Unit, DK has performed at Face off with Safaricom, Groove tours with skiza, groove party with Skiza, Kenya for Kenyans with Safaricom and Open happiness with Cocacola. Let’s wait and see if he will live up to that reputation in his new video.

The VoodooSeller presents his freestyle

Every rapper likes to showcase their skills in the art of free-styling. Most, if not all, often do it as some beats play in the background and they attempt to deliver their impromptu thought up lyrics with the best flow they can get.

Well, some just choose to go raw and serve it as it as comes. Either way, at the end of the day, it’s the listeners who will have the last word and in this case, you will be the listener.

VoodooSeller, from Head Bangaz Entertainment, while hanging out with 6KG, decided to drop us some few bars of his own. Straight freestyle, no beats, just lyrics. Listen up.

Check out Kenya’s own Gangnam Style

The Gangnam Style video went viral almost immediately it was uploaded on YouTube. It is by far one of the most interesting and funniest music videos, and more so, Asian music video.

As good and unmatchable as it is, you know there are always people ready to accept a challenge that has not even been issued to them, and so the parodies begun. Almost every country now has its own Gangnam Style parody video.

What? You thought Kenya would be left out on this? No way!

Check out kenya’s own version of Gangnam Style.

Wardrobe malfunction leaves Marya exposed

Oh my! I don’t know what to make of this. I’m certainly glad I’m not myopic, but then again, there’s always the zoom button when things appear… ‘unclear’ and distant.

Marya was on stage performing alongside Avril at the Guiness Football Challenge over the weekend, and she fell victim to wardrobe malfunction (to the delight of the fappers around).

On stage, Marya brought out a special guest… Miss C*mel t*e. On second thought, I think this guest was not invited at all. Miss C*mel t*e just decided this was the right time to get her share of the attention, and so she has.

Juliani’s “4 by 6” theatrical video finally out

This dude never fails in bringing out his message clearly to the fans. He just has this way of portraying facts through lyrics and images that no one else seems to have grasped.

Revolutionary and realistic, Juliani’s “4 by 6” is that type of song that every Kenyan, in-fact, every East African can relate too. And what good timing it has too. Just when ‘politricks’ is at its peak, he releases this track and video. He couldn’t have chosen any better time than this to launch the track.

What I love most about the lyrics of “4 by 6” is its parabolic nature. If you are slow (sorry about that), it will actually take you some time to interpret some of the messages that he is trying to get through in this song. Take this for instance, “kuku imefungwa kamba refu, ina-feel free. Before ijue, iko kwa plate kando ya chips.”

Let’s just give credit where it’s due. Juliani is a brilliant lyricist and there is no debating that. My personal favorite lyrics in the track, “bulb ikiwaka kwa kichwa utalipa KPLC kwa kila good idea,” gets me smiling every time. You can get the “4 by 6” lyrics right here. The video… don’t even get me started on that. The concept illustrates the lyrics, word for word. The theatrical puppet controlled Juliani represents the common mwananchi, and the “4 by 6” bed, I would say, represents his lifestyle.

This is not the kind of work you would expect from an ordinary artiste. No, my friend. This is one of those extra-ordinary ones. One that you would listen to his whole album, without skipping a single track.

Check out the new video below, just released.

VIDEO: Fan Appreciates Avril by Doing Sweet Piano Cover of Kitu Kimoja

Avril’s Kitu Kimoja is one of the most popular songs to come out this year. It has solidified Avril’s status as one of the biggest female artistes in the country.

The song was produced by Ogopa Deejays, which explains its pop-ish style, but as some covers have suggested, it would actually make a pretty good ballad.

A new cover by Robby Voice proves that. And it just made me like the song a little more. Robby is no Lang Lang but he plays the piano fairly well. Here’s a message from Robby Voice: “True fans would do such a thing for their local artistes and I really wanna support our 254 artistes so this one of my pieces of appreciation. I have never seen our bands do cover songs for them, vitu za majuu tu.”

Check out his really sweet cover of Kitu Kimoja below.

Open Letter: Jamaica’s RDX Diss Kenyans, Uncle Chim Tuna Responds!

If you missed it, i don’t blame you. Some dancehall one-hit-wonders recently talked greasy about Kenya and no-one cared.

The couple called RDX, BMW or BMX something inbetween those acronyms spoke about how Kenya killed their careers by labelling them controversial. These are the chaps who gave you the Bend Over track that had everyone (shockingly except me) going crazy. The track was admittedly so huge, it had every Kenyan youth attempting to engage in coitus on the dancefloor. Uncle Chim Tuna doesn’t approve!

bb770c20872c48c70dddf2f8750cab08_M.jpg
But back to the matter at hand, this couple is now saying that they were housed in a sub-par hotel and that their career was done irreperable damage when Kenyans labelled them explicit and controversial. Correct your dede if he’s wrong but don’t the two labels help artists especially those from the West? Just look at Lady Gaga et al.
These lads need to come up with another excuse for their moribund career. Blame global warming or poor toilet hygiene but don’t involve the proud people of Kenya in your delusional rants. Come up with another hit instead of whinnig like an elderly couple of hasbeens complaining about the state of music these days.

KENYA IS A PROUD NATION that shouldn’t be compared to her equally proud neighbour Uganda but these two brought up the rather childish comparison. While Ghafla does positive pieces, i had to speak out for the land my mother calls home. We opened our beautiful country up to you and this how you repay us? You wait to return home to run to some little blogs and Youtube to fire shots at us? Not while Chim Tuna Khasiani draws breath!
And afterall, everyone has a right to an opinion, MINE. So BMX, stop bringing Kenyans into your excuses for a failed career and either make music or shuttup your mouths!

Ala-C Rubbishes Rape Claims

Last week the online community was abuzz with news (or is it rumours?) that Calif Records’ artiste, Ala C had raped a female friend after she declined to give in to his sexual demands.

It was reported that Ala C had tried soliciting for lungula from one of his female fans after their first meeting. However, the “Walking Class” hit-maker has now responded to the claims saying that none of them is real and that he has moved past that.

Ala C said those spreading the rumours were riding on his name to become famous. The singer declared that he is over the story and that he is concentrating on his acting career and as such he revealed that he will be joining Tahidi High as an actor.

And here is his message:

“I have received so many messages asking me to respond to something a certain page wrote about me. Nashukuru mafans wangu kwa kusimama na mimi..when ua making progress not every1 will be happy about it lazima kuwe na mtu anataka kukuweka chini..but anyway i need a new bunch of haters since all others turned friends! BIG UP TO ALL MY DIE HARD FANS ..nawapenda wote!”
