And now, A Kamba version of the Gangnam Style

Let me just be completely honest, this Gangnam Style parodies and refixes got old as soon as they started out making them.

Atleast that’s what I thought before I heard this new Kamba version of it. The track is titled ‘Mkamba Style’ and the artiste behind it goes by the name of Side B.

Ulopa produced this track and though it is not really A+, it is definitely entertaining and worth listening to.

Check it out below.

The Best of 2012’s A-Z of The Kenyan Facebookers

As the year is drawing to a close, we will be reviewing some of the greatest moments of the year 2012. So today, one our readers’, Jecinta Wainaina (@jeccy_jess), piece about the peculiar habits of Kenyan online especially on Facebook.

Below is her piece, titled, “What Kind of A Facebooker Are You?”

I am a certified facebook addict, well at least at home…if am not on my phone am on the computer and even my big siz thinks I need to visit a shrink (and she said it in her matrimonial voice…not good). In a bid to beat this addiction I decided to do a survey…and here are the A-Z of my discovery…

A
Aunty Tabby
Most of us sure do remember aunt Tabby’s column on Young Nation. She was the trusted aunt to whom we ran with our adolescence troubles…and on facebook we have our very own aunt Tabby’s. we run to them in secret (read inbox0and pour out our hearts to them and as usual they have sound advice for us. If you are one of these, all I can say is bless you for helping us face this tricky days of socio-economic and political upheaval. I can bet my HELB loan on the fact that they are among the few facebookers who go down on their knees every night to say a prayer for the troubled souls!
Al Shabaab
This group cannot be further removed from the aunt Tabbys’, like the name suggests, they are troublemakers. They thrive in issuing threats left, right and centre. If you receive an inbox from them you contemplate deactivating your account for they will certainly not have any kind words for you. All I can tell you is loosen up and you will realize that the world is not responsible for your woes.
B
Braggarts
Trust this group to blow their own trumpets. They will shout of their achievements to anyone who cares to listen. It’s okay to let us know you have made a major milestone in life but it is also wise to talk about other things once in awhile as this shows you care about something else other than yourself.
Boxers
Okay, I admit it really will make your mind run wild but if you truly know me, you know it has nothing to do with what you are thinking about 😉 but a group of facebookers who have made inbox their life calling. They will inbox you and even inbox groups that they are members of…but the truth is we all love them besides who doesn’t love logging in and seeing inbox (1)… I know I doJ.
Business refined
I think am particularly drawn to this group, I mean the business acumen they exude is just intoxicating. They are the ones we look up to know how the NSE is performing and whether it is wise to invest in it. You will wake up to Warren Buffet’s business quotes and sleep to Robert Kiyosaki’s business principles courtesy of these future Chris Kirubis’.

BASH-MENt Crew
Trust this group of girls, ladies and women not to spare a kind word for the men. They are the current day Wangu wa Makeri. What they sure don’t disappoint in is a good laugh that is if you are a fellow skirt bearer but if you are the species from mars, all you can walk away saying is that indeed… HELL HAS NO FURY…
C
CIA
Yes your guess is as good as mine… they are the ones who will make it their business to investigate on any of your friends suspicious activities and warn you of impending danger that only they seem to see. Love them or hate them but their skills are just amazing which could put our CID to shame.
Cupid’s Victims
Trust them to be in love all year round and you will not be spared on the happy times they enjoy, hitting you with photos, love notes and exclusive updates directed to the objects of their love…woe unto you if your favorite column in the dailies is the LONELY HEARTS… to ease your pain lemmi say “I LOVE YOU”…LOL
D
Dear Diary
I need not ask them their schedule, all I need is access to their account and I can ‘accidentally’ bump into them. We know when they come in and go out (pun intended), we know when they cry and when a smile forms on their lips…when they laugh and even when they choke on the pain in them. simply put, we know all their business and it sure feels good to know a friend that well especially if you have never met in person. It feels like you have known them all your life…aaaaw…that’s so sweet.
D
Drum
Like the drum magazine, they never disappoint when it comes to celeb gossip. They know everything there is to know in the cellebville and trust them to make sure you keep up to date as well…kwani how did I know that DNG was no longer a brother if you know what I mean.
E
English Teacher
I am tempted to call them Miss Kimani…but then I remember we were not all in my primary school. Okay you got an A in English and to you spelling is a matter of life and death but I got news flash for you, this is facebook and not a composition book to keep on marking my grammar or lack of it. All the same you sure will make excellent editors if you keep to it.

Equations
I admit that this is probably the smartest group of people on facebook. Their updates and comments are like some mathematical equations that must be solved to get the value of that elusive x. you are doomed if you take theirwordss at face value for you will be their laughing stock. It is safe not to comment on their updates especially if you can’t remember your high school math teacher’s name. keep up the smart trend, I DON’T THINK WE WOULD MIND A SECOND NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.
F

Food Store
To them they live to eat and not the vice versa. They will never fail to remind you it is time for a meal. They go ahead to invite you to all the bashes with a great emphasis on the food that will be served. One thing I would love to remind them is that obesity is a real threat in our country today and so is malnutrition, so please be a bridge to solve the two by indulging less and sharing more.
G
Glue
It is sticky and makes sure that things are connected and so does this group. They tag you in anything taggable (oops…is there such a word) on facebook. From pics to notes they will ensure that you stick to them and a price you will pay are the numerous notifications you will receive…a small price for the beautiful tags…hahaha
H
Halleluiah massive
A praise a day keeps the devil away seems to be their mantra, and a praiseworthy one at that. This group will easily put a smile on your face with their attitude of gratitude. They have no time to sulk and with each update, their hearts shout praise to the Almighty. If we all learnt a thing or two from these amazing darlings we would be smiling a little more and crying a little less. To my sweethearts, I know your lives are not perfect either but keep up the praise you lift many souls you know….mwaaah.
I
I Want To Know You More…
Like phantoms, they hover online and once you log in, up pos the question. Need I say more…hahahaha
Innocent
They are amazing at how they have managed to keep unadultratated in this day and age. They are most certainly in awe about one thing or the other…expressing their shock at the unimaginable they witness in life (must be facebook mainly…lol). My two cents to them is to just keep away from facebook and back into that safe cocoon they were in.
J
Jilted Lovers
You wake up to their whines about a love gone sour. In fact they wash their dirty laundry in public to the chagrin of many. It is common for them to solicit your arbitration skills if you are a mutual friend and you will be that proverbial shoulder while at it. I know you may have had your whole future tied to the person but hey, they have probably moved on already so pick up the pieces and ass you will certainly know a time comes when you have… TO LET GO AND LET GOD!!!
Just for laughs
Crazy cannot start to describe these facebookers, and that makes me wonder where they were during the top comic auditions. They have a way of looking at life that will certainly leave you in stitches gasping for dear breathe. To them life is not to be taken too seriously coz after all none of us will come out alive. I think these should hook up with the Al Shabaab so that they help them to laugh more and threaten less. To you my Kenyan Dave Chappelles…hahahahahahahahaha….
K
Karaoke
I can bet they are the same people with the croakiest voices just like me, and in a bid to make up for the lack of musicality; they will treat you to lyrics of a wide variety of songs and especially the new releases. They sure do help most of us who hear things far from the truth…in the spirit of karaoke please tag me in the NMG anniversary song…”we can make it me and you…owey owey”(am serious, please one karaoke king or queen tag me)
L
Lonely Hearts
I keep wondering why the jilted lovers just can’t look up the lonely hearts and save us all the agony of people desperately asking for pretend dates. I know singlehood can at times get lonely but these are just at another level. You can almost feel their pain and agony as they recount their lonely lives. But truth be told, if you can’t enjoy your own company no man or woman by your side will make you any happier just love yourself enough to enjoy the sound of your voice and heartbeat and you will turn into a magnet spoilt for choice. Your lonely self will be a thing of the past.
M
Moneybags
You know there are people who talk about money (read braggarts) and those who actually have the money. These guys don’t talk about it but from their refined mannerisms on facebook you bet they have it all. I love to think myself in this group…oh no I just talked about it…lol. Keep up the class and maybe most of us will learn a thing or two from you.
Makmende
I just had to bring in our superhero and you sure bet that these people are out to be superheroes. They are ready to come to the rescue in one situation or the other. Once they check out the updates, they single out the distreshish ones and get to work. They inbox you to see if there is anything they can do including dealing with those who are causing you the agony. Our knights in shining amour, please know we love you but we at times need to fight our own battles…hope makmende won’t be mad I used his name bila permission.
N
Neon Light
You sure bet they are on and off on facebook but trust those to have an inner beauty that most of us can only dream about. They always have something beautiful to say once they decide to make their appearance. Woiye pliz…be more frequent on facebook we are in dire need of those beautiful words that leave our hearts warm.
O
One Eighty Degrees
They will stern you with their versatility. They are comforta ble with any topic their hearts connives. They can easily print unprintables and then update a whole Bible passage at the snap of your finger. Their unpredictability makes you wary of their comments for they are not afraid to say anything but they sure do make great conservationists.
P
Pathway
These are just the way to where you want to go. With links as their fav pastime on facebook, they will easily help you to link to so many sites. I know many bridges are underappreciated but today I say big up to the pathways for opening our eyes to the many other functions (sites) of the internet other than facebook!

Preachers
Did I hear an amen… and you better for their updates and everything they do are very inspiring Bible verses, passages and even sermons. They are not afraid to stand for the truth they believe in and for this I salute them. Not many of us want to be associated with the church especially with the green and red colours now bearing new meanings but these facebookers sure do know their Bible and to that I say to whom much is given much is expected. God has blessed you with much so give as much… preach it sista/brada.
Peter Marangi
Had this group been none existent, Mark Zuckerburg (btw he is the genius behind facebook), would have removed the wall from the features of facebook. These people sure do a good job of coloring our walls with beautiful words. They ensure that the Marangi legacy lives on with no wall being devoid of colour. Please do attend Dura coat school of experts and come teach us too how to turn plain walls into a work of art especially for other people.
Q
Questionnaires
You thought q is a hard letter to work with? well not so hard when you remember that friend who always has a query. From their updates to inboxes and wall to walls, they are all questions. Like a questionnaire, they never run dry on something they need clarification on. With such a hunger to learn, Kenya’s future sure is bright.
PS: keep sending me your queries coz they sure do make me feel like a genius!
R
Realists
Trust them to hand it to you as it is. If you are pissing them off they will tell you off without mincing their words and if your photo is just an eye sore they will tell you exactly that and not in your inbox but on your wall. They at times come across as callous but us all need a reality check once in a while and they sure do that. Tell us as it is dears and maybe just maybe you may be the next Dr. phil.

S
Snitch
Our brothers and sisters in this group will tell on you and you know the usual statement…this is a secret between the two of us please don’t tell anyone else… seriously by now you should know that hakuna siri ya watu wawili and so when I tell you something in confidence don’t tell even if your life depends on it… But as my class two boyfriends would say “sawa tu, Mungu amekuona”.
Snoop
Apparently they are the most dormant facebookers that there is but do not be fooled by their lack of updates and commenting on other people’s updates, these have all the facebook activities on their fingertips. They know everything that is going on but will never comment to give the impression that they have overcome the power of facebook. They check out your profile and even check out your friends after all they don’t have comments to reply to. It is okay to check out but be careful lest you be confused for a stalker.
Socrates
May the lord rest His soul… this is one of the greatest philosophers who ever lived and even today philosophy is very much part of us thanks to our facebook Socrates. They always something smart to say. To know one, just check out your friends quotes…while you have probably put a Bible verse, they have Li Quan quotes. To them let us all say…MAY PHILOSOPHY LIVE ON…after all future generations need quotes.
Suicide Bomber
They thrive in creating a rumour after the other and will gladly do it again even if they go down with the rmour as well. Like suicide bombers, they believe they are on a cause and woe unto you if you are the target, they will take you down as they die as well. For real we need you but to deal with the Al Shabaab who are threatening our facebook peace…and there will be a handsome prize for a job well done!
T
Thumbs Up
Just hold up your thumb to this group…they sure do enjoy the like feature on facebook. They not only like your updates even if you are having a headache but do also like all your activities. Wahu Wainaina is now friends with Hana Jina and there is thumbs up liking this and the funny thing is that we don’t have any mutual friends betweenHana Jina and thumbs up. Please do take care lest your thumb becomes deformed!!!

U
Uploaders
You thought you are photogenic, wait till you meet the uploaders. They seem to have more pics on facebook than the number of friends they have. Every day they treat you to a new side of them (photographically speaking) and you most probably easilyrecognise them if you met with them for the first time. Two words “DON’T STOP”…how else do you think I pass my time on facebook when ‘activity’ is slow? I check out you pics…tihitihi
V
Vigilante
This is a group that causes mayhem on facebook and am on the opinion that they know something about the PEV. They are out to defend their interests whatever they may be. Should your tongue oops fingers slip and threaten their position, they will cause an uprising. With such passion and aggression, I have booked you for my 2017 campaigns.
Vaccine
These are out to warn you of any wrong action and as such help you evade trouble before it befalls you. They warn you of anything that will cause you harm. At times we feel that they are clogging our space but these sure do keep us safe from our own ignorance…thank you mums and dads.
W
Wannabe
Do I really need to explain…?
Well-wishers
The only thing they seem to do is pass their best wishes to people. Be it a birthday wish, valentines, madaraka, a graduation, a new born, a new job and even a new house. The best part is that in times of loss they will also be there to send their condolences. Thanks for reminding us of all the things we should celebrate in life.
X
X –rated
Yea, I managed an x. there is no way of describing this groupwitout being misquoted so what I will do is let you figure it on your own, but you may need parental guidance…lol.

Y
Yearbooks
They seem to know the whereabouts of all your 200 plus former classmates. Considering that only about 90 are on facebook, they sure do a pretty good job. Please keep up and when we get jobos you will help us contact them all for a reunion so that we relive those old good days (by the way why are only old days the good ones??)
Z
Zealots
These according to the dictionary are people who are really passionate about something and lucky you (or is it unlucky) when they get passionate about you. They will comment on anything and everything that concerns you even if it is a week after. I don’t think any of us minds having a zealot coz afteral you make us feel good especially if no one else is commenting…and on that note may my zealots come out strongly and comment on this note…hahaha. I just had to do that.

My main aim was to put a smile on your face and celebrate diversity on facebook coz without any of these groups and some many more facebook would not be as lovely as it is… I love you all my dear friends, you make facebook worthwhile in other words you turned me into the facebook junkie that I am…lolest!

This is by far the best XYZ Show music parody yet

These guys have gone hard on almost every local and international hit songs, giving them political humor that at the same time expresses and illustrates exactly what is going on in Kenyan politics.

XYZ Show have made parodies that even qualify to be played on radio and clubs, but around August this year, they made what I tend to think could be the best parody yet.

They remixed the track ‘party rock’ done originally by LMFAO, named it ‘party hoppers’ and they nailed it down to the dancing.

I just can’t stop laughing out loud and hitting the replay tab.

Here, have a look at the video below and see if you’ll agree.

STL Goes International in the Shut It Down Remix

While most artistes are probably on holiday winding down after a year of hardwork, top female rapper STL is far from taking a break from what she does best. Yesterday, the sassy rapper unveiled the remix of her hit song, “Shut It Down” featuring Kenya’s youthful rapper Xtatic, Ghana’s Tifanny and America’s Nitty Scott, MC.

All the three female rappers featured in the remix share three things in common; they are young, they are budding in their music career and are all versatile. If you remember well, Tifanny is the girl in the club-banger “Azonto” and her voice just makes “Shut It Down” worth listening to. On the other hand, Xtatic, fresh from releasing her hard-hitting hip hop video, “Hit ‘Em Up”, brings her ill lyrics to this song giving it a very tight flow.

Nitty Scott, MC, is little known to the Kenyan audience however her record speaks loads for her. She describes herself as “one of the few females creating her own lane in progressive hip-hop, a new school fly girl who isn’t afraid to get down with the cypher”. She, like Xtatic and Tifanny does not disappoint in the delivery. And then of course in comes STL who needs no introduction for her reputation in music is one of a kind.

In a nutshell, these girls went in hard on this remix. I give it 8.5/10. Listen to the song below;

London-based Kenyan Group About to Take Over Africa

MusikMaestro are back again with their new East African Kapuka Beat on their new single, Afreeca. The audio already charted at no. 1 one OneFM for two weeks.

MusikMaestro is a London-based East African duo signed to the independent record label, Soulitary Entertainment. Based on their mutual admiration for UK urban music and taking influences from a variety of East African music genres, MusikMaestro are currently working on an experimental fusion sound for their EP, Electric Afreeca, which will be released soon.

The audio release of Electric Afreeca is the culmination of MusikMaestro’s experiment with afro-house music and has now been followed by official single releases House Party and Disco Girl. They are also working on collaborative projects with established names such as Wyre and Habida from Kenya, Jackie Chandiru from Uganda, Bossu from Ghana, Cassper Nyovest from South Africa) and Dr SID from Nigeria.

With the backing and credentials of some of the biggest names in the East Africa and the Afrobeats music industry, MusikMaestro have gained attention from bloggers and radio stations across Africa and London. The release of their debut single, House Party – an Afrobeat song with a young urban feel to it and their second club banging single, Disco Girl featuring Nigeria’s Dr. SID, has put this duo on the world stage as their music gains airplay on popular spaces like BBC1Xtra UK, 1FM Kenya and Radio City Uganda. Watch out for them.

This was indeed the best condom advert ever!

Remember this condom advert that had a lady walk the streets of Nairobi with the rain pouring down on her? The rain finally stops and she has to cover her umbrella but unfortunately or fortunately the wind blows the umbrella cover away.

To her rescue, a ‘tall dark and handsome’ guy that she’s been eyeing stops her on her tracks and pulls out a packet of condoms from his pockets, slowly uncovers one and dresses it down the umbrella as the crowd of idlers cheers on.

I’m a really young dude, so it is pretty obvious that I was just a kid when this condom advert aired on the screens. How awkward it was to watch this while seated right next to my mother. I dreaded every single moment it played.

Now, looking back at this video of the advert, I can’t help but agree with the title on it. It was and still is the best condom advert that ever came from Kenyans.

Check it out below.

Top Comedian Tells Mudavadi “Rudi Nyumbani Na Uwache Kuyumbayumba!”

That is the message from Wanyonyi top Luhya on Youtube! And though this was a comedy skit, there was nothing to laugh about!

Ok, maybe that’s not accurate but i love how Kenyans have already taken advantage of the goings on in the political field to come up with creative comedy.
And while i am on record saying i don’t like buffoonery humour and tribal comedy, this lad is different! He has actually nailed it because he isn’t ridiculing Luhyas, just speaking on behalf of them and i am truly happy to say that this is a must watch!
Even Mudavadi would see the humour in this!

Introducing Othuol Othuol the comedian (video)

Man, the speed with which Kenyan comedy is growing is just crazy. New comedians come up to the stage in almost every comedy show, some really funny, and some just trying out their luck, with disastrous results.

Othuol Othuol is one of those that don’t have to try. Getting your name out their in the mainstream section is really hard, especially for a comedian. If you thought it is hard in the corporate world, you should try walk a mile in these guys shoes.

Anyway, Othuol Othuol is a proud Luo man who expresses his comic self through the stereotype Luo lifestyle and culture and he is hella funny.

I came across a video of his performance that happened earlier in the year at the Kenya Kona show at the Hilton hotel and I just could not resist sharing.

This is another huge comedian in the making.

Check out the performance below.

Yet Another Milestone for Kiss TV

Radio Africa’s Kiss TV has once again added another feather to its cap. This morning, the TV station was officially launched on the satellite television platform, DStv.

The station has partnered with Multichoice and will be available on all DStv and GOTV bouquets from today. This move comes just about two weeks after the station re-launched introducing fresh programmes as well new personalities like renowned journalist, “Mwalimu” John Sibi Okumu who hosts the interactive news show, JSO@7.

Multichoice subscribers can now catch their favourite TV programmes, including the 20 newly launched shows on DSTv’s channel 274 and GOTV’s channel 94. This makes Kiss TV the latest entrant onto the platform and hence puts it in a better position to compete effectively in the market.

Kenya’s Top Celebrities React To Uhuru-Mudavadi Political Drama

The following events took place between 1600hrs (yesterday) and 1200hrs today…

Ok, i shan’t bore you with a blow by blow recap of the past 24hrs seeing as the more boring media outlets have got that covered but i will say that Mudavadi thought he was TNA’s flag-bearer only for Uhuru to denounce their deal and call “them” devils.

And since then, Kenya’s top celebrities have not been shy about letting Kenyans know just what they think about what transpired. They have been posting their opinions on social media and some have been hilarious, some plain mean. But enough of my jibber jabber, here is what your top celebrities and influential media players had to say:

Robert Alai (Opinion maker):

“Mudavadi got what he deserved. Dealing with ICC Criminals is like flossing with your IPad in Eastlands…..”

“BREAKING (NEWS): The devil ibilisi obel illuminati has said that he has nothing to do with Jubilee alliance woes.”

Jalang’o (Kenya’s leading celebrity):

Bernard Kioko:

Boniface Mwangi (Opinion shaper):

“The devil has become a scape goat for someone’s failure to use common sense. Never sign a deal when drunk but sadly you are always drunk”

Cartel Katenga:

Baby Musalia…Here are the Things that Were Actually Handed Over To Him , Where He Did Not Put In Any Work ..
1. UDF Was Handed Over To Him, WSR , UK , Kalonzo , RAO All Built Their Party From Scratch.
2. Moi Hand Picked Him Twice , First When His Father Died & again in 2002
3. Allegedly Even His ” Son ” Was handed Over To Him By Some Indian Guy – He Never Put In Any Work
4. Now He Cries ” Uhuru Promised to let me be the president , he signed the papers “

Mbuvi Holding a Cocktail Launch for His Album Tonight

Tonight, gospel artiste, Mbuvi, is set to hold cocktail launch for his latest album, Niwe Nawe. The event is set to take place at Nairobi Safari Club. There will be a five-piece band in the house and many more surprises.

Mbuvi started singing in the late ’90s as a praise and worship leader in church. He went on to rework the famous Luo gospel song, Taya. He made his first mark in the industry in 2001 when he did Ukilya Moko jointly with Shammah.

Mbuvi recently released a single, Wewe Mkuu together with a video late last month. The singer is mostly known for his upbeat track, Kwata Kawaya, which gets heavy rotation in clubs despite being a gospel song. For tickets and more information, 0722 741 474.

This Might be the Next Big TV Series

A new thrilling TV show, Two Sides, is set to make its way to local screens some time next year has been announced. The show will star veteran TV actors Raymond Ofula and David Mulwa with one of the fastest rising actors in the industry, Lizz Njagah, also as part of the cast.

Casting calls have also been put out for child actors for the show that is written by Peter Mutethia and Paul Waweru. Busaka Jackton is the producer while the consultant producer is Alexandros Konstantaras. The description that has been put out for the show so far is:

Two Sides is a story about the fires that rage deep in the bowels of human nature. It is a story about appearance and reality, murderers turned martyrs of own ambition, seeking vengeance and finding redemption instead, people being not what they appear to be.

Two Sides presents a world where villains find heroes deep within, where heroes walk with darkness in their hearts, where everybody is multifaceted, where no one is what they seem to be.”

In very many words, the description is still vague so it might be anything from a soap opera to a superhero series. Lets wait for 2013 and see.

TV host Rachel Marete just got into music. Here’s her debut single

Rachel Marete has been in the States taking her journalistic career to the next level, ever since she became Miss Kenya back in 2005.

She even tried out for BET’s 106 & Park host and co-host auditions that took place earlier thi9s year. Journalism is not enough for this sexy lady full of talents as she has just ventured into music.

Rachel Marete just touched ground in Kenya this week and has released her debut single titled ‘Kelele’ which dives right into the party music zone. For her first song, this is really something.

Come to think of it, this could actually become a club banger if it receives adequate radio play.

Here, have a listen.

Top Presenter at NMG’s Q FM Calls It Quits

Once again the Nation Media Group has experienced another loss. This time, the media house has lost one of its best presenters for its Kiswahili radio outfit, Q FM. Yesterday, the super gorgeous presenter, Massawe Japanni, left the radio station and her next destination is not yet clear.

Massawe has always been vocal at Q FM for the past four and a half years and this news will come as a shocker to the fans of her show, Q-Drive. Together with comedian Awinja (Kazungu Matano AKA Otosh), Massawe made Q-Drive one of the biggest afternoon shows in the country as they tackled real-time issues that face the society.

Her former colleague, Awinja alias JPT, had kind words for her even as she leaves the station. “She gave me a reason to look forward to beautiful afternoons….now I’ll have to work on new energy. I pray I will.
I will forever miss you Massawe Jappani. All the best in whatever you undertake. I mean it. God bless you,” posted Kazungu Matano.

Avril Exposes Her Other Talent…Video Girl!

I’m not a fan of Bongo music but I know when a track is about to blow up. And Diamond’s latest track will.

The Tanzanian artiste employed Ogopa for the video for his new single, Kesho. In the love song, he talks about preparing to meet the parents of his dream girl. The girl used in the video happens to be another Ogopa Deejays star, Avril.

Other guest stars in the video include Willy M. Tuva, Collo and Colonel Mustafa. We see Diamond take Avril through the good life in clothing stores, casinos and hotels, and finally back to the parents house for the big decision. The track was produced by Wasafi Entertainment. Check out Avril’s turn as a video girl on Diamond’s Kesho below.

Top 10 Club Songs of 2012

Kenya has a vibrant club culture and so it makes sense for a lot of local artistes to make bumptious songs for the inebriated members of our hardworking population.

Some of the songs are not even meant to be club songs but somehow have become weekend night staples. Countdown the year’s top club anthems and see how Collo managed to be involved in two tracks in the Top 2.

{youtube}-O2zvE2vxf8{/youtube}
10. Ino Ni Momo – Wa Kahalf
A song that not only made contribution to the sheng vocabulary but moved dancefloors even in the uptown city clubs, the last place you would expect the track to catch on.

{youtube}1DVnbtfJ6Zs{/youtube}
9. Kitu Kimoja – Avril
In Chokoza, Avril talks about club adventures. It was a hit. Who’d have thought she’d have the same effect with a love song about dating a blind guy?

{youtube}4MdxCYg8pcE{/youtube}
8. Vidonge – Size 8
This is the year Size 8 made every corporate trying to reach out to the youth notice her and made us forget how uninspired her stagename actually is. But her Vidonge track was understandably as popular on DJ’s playlists as was her Moto.

{youtube}pK0_UbP5WjM{/youtube}
7. My City, My Town – Prezzo and Cannibal
Just before Prezzo went into the Big Brother house, he released a tribute to his town. With a truimphant return three months later, it became a homecoming anthem.

{youtube}5JBfhzbdPUw{/youtube}
6. Toklezea – Abbas and Chantelle
Abbas has always been consistent with the club-bangability of his records. From Chapaa to 2050, Toklezea proves that he is not about to slack off.

{youtube}37hmXPPgkbg{/youtube}
5. Sitolia – Willy Paul and Gloria Muliro
If you thought Kitu Kimoja was an unlikely club hit, you haven’t been on the dancefloor lately and seen people get down to a duet between a man who has given up on life and a woman trying to console him.

{youtube}eeKoqyH1Pu0{/youtube}
4. Make You Dance – Keko featuring Madtraxx
Keko just burst out of nowhere and no dancefloor audience was going to ignore the tomboy’s fast-paced Missy Elliott-style flow.

{youtube}g8ABrzRDL9Y{/youtube}
3. Maswali Ya Polisi – DNA
When one announces that he is crossing over from gospel music to secular it’s going to take a lot for people get off the “hot” story and pay attention to the music. Unless the music is the monster of a track Maswali Ya Polisi was.

{youtube}awrbsMeL3F8{/youtube}
2. Party Don’t Stop – Camp Mulla featuring Collo
Mulla’s biggest track to date moved slow in the underground scene, racking up countless views online before Clarence Peters gave them a video treatment and the song became the unofficial party anthem across the country. Watch everyone in the club pause when “We blow this…bazooka! POW!” comes on.

{youtube}LKwlFXz6cGk{/youtube}
1. You Guy (That Dendai) – P-Unit featuring Collo
P-Unit and Musyoka have been involved in the biggest hits over the past half decade. And when the two come together, it’s always fire. Remember Kare?! With a nostalgic sample from Murder She Wrote all the way from the ’90s, it became the unofficial #TeamMafisi anthem and possible Rohypnol theme song.

Nonini shuts down his website awaiting the end of the world

I’m not even tripping. I can even give you the link straight up before I expound. Here it is.

Familiar with Nonini’s website? You know, www.noninimusic.com? If you are a true mgenge, then of-course you do. Nonini was actually one of the first Kenyan rappers to have his own official and well done website.

Sharing his music exclusively, communicating with fans, giving news about his projects and everything else Nonini related was the content of this website.

This is what it is now.

What a comical way to convince the citizens to vote (video)

Okay, this video was uploaded by a YouTube user by the name of Raila Odinga. Now, I don’t know for real if this is from his campaign team or just someone high on his tom foolery, but this was a good attempt in getting guys to register.

Well, this ‘advert like’ video brings out a comic, with a Nyambane-like character, trying to persuade the citizens to register to vote through his comical ways.

Okay, I’ll admit it’s not that funny, but the attempt is highly appreciated. After all, it is for a good cause.

Check out the video below.

The ‘Hot Deejay’ video is out and Sosuun brings out her ‘Kelis’ through it

The beat on this track… God d**m! This is the type of beat you feel straight to your heart. Giving your body sudden movements that you just can’t explain.

So, in this new track ‘hot deejay’, Sosuun brings out the ‘Kelis’ in her and illustrates her ‘boss’ antics and flow. I’m finding myself liking this character way better. Sosuun has that type of flow and voice that is best brought out in an aggressive yet somewhat relaxed nature, kinda like what she’s done in this track here.

From being referred to as Kenrazy’s rapping girlfriend, Sosuun has now built her own name and brand and now has her own fan base. Hell, from the look of things, I’d say she is just about ready and set to be competition for Kenrazy and other rappers.

This beat right here though, I just can’t have enough. Sosuun has surely impressed this time. Awesome yet simple video too.

Check it out below.

Mdomo Baggy Gives Politics a Second Shot

After trying his luck at politics in 2007 and failing to clinch the 2007 Kamukunji seat, comedian Mdomo Baggy is set to give politics a second shot. This time vying on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, Mdomo Baggy is upbeat that he will clinch the seat.

He believes that he will win the elections as there are all indications. “I have worked very hard, constantly on the ground; I have fought so hard for the new constitution. This is because I am a believer in African renaissance,” remarks Mdomo Baggy. He says that he could not make it in 2007 since his party was still young.

Mdomo Baggy however says that he will not quit comedy in the event that he wins the Kamukunji seat. “I think I still have a lot of contribution in the comedy world whereby I’ll be setting policies, as both a politician and a comedian,” revealed Mdomo Baggy. He also added that he will be on forefront at the policy level where he will put forth tangible policies as well as develop standards.

“And of course I will nurture new talents; I want to see other Mdomo Baggys emerging,” concluded the comedian. Mdomo Baggy was speking to Edward Qorro (the Beat reporter).

Supremacy Sounds offers its fans this Christmas Extravaganza

It’s that time of the year when everyday is a holiday and the party never stops. Try say that around January. This time doesn’t last at all, so better make the best of it while we still can.

That is probably why Supremacy Sounds has made it possible for you to party with them through out the remaining days of this awesome month.

With that said, Supremacy Sounds will be playing at Club Kikwetu, in a n event they dub as Xmas Extravaganza from the 24th of December (Monday) to the 26th (Wednesday). That’s not when they’ll be stopping though. They will be resuming their Club Kikwetu show on the 31st of December, with the finale on the 1st of January 2013.

Now you know where to be this December.

Boston Globe Lists Just A Band’s Album as One of the Year’s Best

Just A Band’s third album, Sorry For The Delay, was undoubtedly the best record out of Kenya this year (not that there were many). But the album also holds up internationally.

The Boston Globe has come up with a list of the best albums of 2012. The usual suspect, and consensus in almost every list that has come out so far, Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange is featured. Another usual suspect featured is Neneh Cherry & The Thing’s The Cherry Thing.

Right up there with the year’s best, is Just A Band’s “collection of songs about life and death, light and darkness, fun, laughter and friendship (good and bad).” Not ranked in any order, this is what Boston Globe’s correspondent, Siddhartha Mitter, had to say about SFTD:

“Another superb album of finely dosed pop and house flavors from the Nairobi foursome who call themselves, most accurately, ‘Africa’s Super-Nerdy Electro-pop/Art Collective’.”
